| For the Chief Musician. [A Psalm] of the sons of Korah. Maschil. We have heard with our ears, O God, Our fathers have told us, What work thou didst in their days, In the days of old. | Ó Deus, nós ouvimos com os nossos ouvidos, nossos pais nos têm contado os feitos que realizaste em seus dias, nos tempos da antigüidade. |
| Thou didst drive out the nations with thy hand; But them thou didst plant: Thou didst afflict the peoples; But them thou didst spread abroad. | Tu expeliste as nações com a tua mão, mas a eles plantaste; afligiste os povos, mas a eles estendes-te largamente. |
| For they gat not the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them; But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, Because thou wast favorable unto them. | Pois não foi pela sua espada que conquistaram a terra, nem foi o seu braço que os salvou, mas a tua destra e o teu braço, e a luz do teu rosto, porquanto te agradaste deles. |
| Thou art my King, O God: Command deliverance for Jacob. | Tu és o meu Rei, ó Deus; ordena livramento para Jacó. |
| Through thee will we push down our adversaries: Through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us. | Por ti derrubamos os nossos adversários; pelo teu nome pisamos os que se levantam contra nós. |
| For I will not trust in my bow, Neither shall my sword save me. | Pois não confio no meu arco, nem a minha espada me pode salvar. |
| But thou hast saved us from our adversaries, And hast put them to shame that hate us. | Mas tu nos salvaste dos nossos adversários, e confundiste os que nos odeiam. |
| In God have we made our boast all the day long, And we will give thanks unto thy name for ever. Selah | Em Deus é que nos temos gloriado o dia todo, e sempre louvaremos o teu nome. |
| But now thou hast cast [us] off, and brought us to dishonor, And goest not forth with our hosts. | Mas agora nos rejeitaste e nos humilhaste, e não sais com os nossos exércitos. |
| Thou makest us to turn back from the adversary; And they that hate us take spoil for themselves. | Fizeste-nos voltar as costas ao inimigo e aqueles que nos odeiam nos despojam à vontade. |
| Thou hast made us like sheep [appointed] for food, And hast scattered us among the nations. | Entregaste-nos como ovelhas para alimento, e nos espalhaste entre as nações. |
| Thou sellest thy people for nought, And hast not increased [thy wealth] by their price. | Vendeste por nada o teu povo, e não lucraste com o seu preço. |
| Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a derision to them that are round about us. | Puseste-nos por opróbrio aos nossos vizinhos, por escárnio e zombaria àqueles que estão à roda de nós. |
| Thou makest us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples. | Puseste-nos por provérbio entre as nações, por ludíbrio entre os povos. |
| All the day long is my dishonor before me, And the shame of my face hath covered me, | A minha ignomínia está sempre diante de mim, e a vergonha do meu rosto me cobre, |
| For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth, By reason of the enemy and the avenger. | à voz daquele que afronta e blasfema, à vista do inimigo e do vingador. |
| All this is come upon us; Yet have we not forgotten thee, Neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. | Tudo isto nos sobreveio; todavia não nos esquecemos de ti, nem nos houvemos falsamente contra o teu pacto. |
| Our heart is not turned back, Neither have our steps declined from thy way, | O nosso coração não voltou atrás, nem os nossos passos se desviaram das tuas veredas, |
| That thou hast sore broken us in the place of jackals, And covered us with the shadow of death. | para nos teres esmagado onde habitam os chacais, e nos teres coberto de trevas profundas. |
| If we have forgotten the name of our God, Or spread forth our hands to a strange god; | Se nos tivéssemos esquecido do nome do nosso Deus, e estendido as nossas mãos para um deus estranho, |
| Will not God search this out? For he knoweth the secrets of the heart. | porventura Deus não haveria de esquadrinhar isso? pois ele conhece os segredos do coração. |
| Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. | Mas por amor de ti somos entregues à morte o dia todo; somos considerados como ovelhas para o matadouro. |
| Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? Arise, cast [us] not off for ever. | Desperta! por que dormes, Senhor? Acorda! não nos rejeites para sempre. |
| Wherefore hidest thou thy face, And forgettest our affliction and our oppression? | Por que escondes o teu rosto, e te esqueces da nossa tribulação e da nossa angústia? |
| For our soul is bowed down to the dust: Our body cleaveth unto the earth. | Pois a nossa alma está abatida até o pó; o nosso corpo pegado ao chão. |
| Rise up for our help, And redeem us for thy lovingkindness' sake. | Levanta-te em nosso auxílio, e resgata-nos por tua benignidade. |
