|
| A wise son [heareth] his father's instruction; But a scoffer heareth not rebuke. | O filho sábio ouve a instrução do pai; mas o escarnecedor não escuta a repreensão. |
| A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth; But the soul of the treacherous [shall eat] violence. | Do fruto da boca o homem come o bem; mas o apetite dos prevaricadores alimenta-se da violência. |
| He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his life; [But] he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction. | O que guarda a sua boca preserva a sua vida; mas o que muito abre os seus lábios traz sobre si a ruína. |
| The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made fat. | O preguiçoso deseja, e coisa nenhuma alcança; mas o desejo do diligente será satisfeito. |
| A righteous man hateth lying; But a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame. | O justo odeia a palavra mentirosa, mas o ímpio se faz odioso e se cobre de vergonha. |
| Righteousness guardeth him that is upright in the way; But wickedness overthroweth the sinner. | A justiça guarda ao que é reto no seu caminho; mas a perversidade transtorna o pecador. |
| There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: There is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great wealth. | Há quem se faça rico, não tendo coisa alguma; e quem se faça pobre, tendo grande riqueza. |
| The ransom of a man's life is his riches; But the poor heareth no threatening. | O resgate da vida do homem são as suas riquezas; mas o pobre não tem meio de se resgatar. |
| The light of the righteous rejoiceth; But the lamp of the wicked shall be put out. | A luz dos justos alegra; porem a lâmpada dos impios se apagará. |
| By pride cometh only contention; But with the well-advised is wisdom. | Da soberba só provém a contenda; mas com os que se aconselham se acha a sabedoria. |
| Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished; But he that gathereth by labor shall have increase. | A riqueza adquirida às pressas diminuira; mas quem a ajunta pouco a pouco terá aumento. |
| Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; But when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. | A esperança adiada entristece o coração; mas o desejo cumprido é árvore devida. |
| Whoso despiseth the word bringeth destruction on himself; But he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. | O que despreza a palavra traz sobre si a destruição; mas o que teme o mandamento será galardoado. |
| The law of the wise is a fountain of life, That one may depart from the snares of death. | O ensino do sábio é uma fonte devida para desviar dos laços da morte. |
| Good understanding giveth favor; But the way of the transgressor is hard. | O bom senso alcança favor; mas o caminho dos prevaricadores é aspero: |
| Every prudent man worketh with knowledge; But a fool flaunteth [his] folly. | Em tudo o homem prudente procede com conhecimento; mas o tolo espraia a sua insensatez. |
| A wicked messenger falleth into evil; But a faithful ambassador is health. | O mensageiro perverso faz cair no mal; mas o embaixador fiel traz saúde. |
| Poverty and shame [shall be to] him that refuseth correction; But he that regardeth reproof shall be honored. | Pobreza e afronta virão ao que rejeita a correção; mas o que guarda a repreensão será honrado. |
| The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil. | O desejo que se cumpre deleita a alma; mas apartar-se do ma e abominação para os tolos. |
| Walk with wise men, and thou shalt be wise; But the companion of fools shall smart for it. | Quem anda com os sábios será sábio; mas o companheiro dos tolos sofre aflição. |
| Evil pursueth sinners; But the righteous shall be recompensed with good. | O mal persegue os pecadores; mas os justos são galardoados com o bem. |
| A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; And the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous. | O homem de bem deixa uma herança aos filhos de seus filhos; a riqueza do pecador, porém, é reservada para o justo. |
| Much food [is in] the tillage of the poor; But there is that is destroyed by reason of injustice. | Abundância de mantimento há, na lavoura do pobre; mas se perde por falta de juízo. |
| He that spareth his rod hateth his son; But he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. | Aquele que poupa a vara aborrece a seu filho; mas quem o ama, a seu tempo o castiga. |
| The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul; But the belly of the wicked shall want. | O justo come e fica satisfeito; mas o apetite dos ímpios nunca se satisfaz. |
