| Sự vinh hiển không xứng cho kẻ ngu muội, Như tuyết trong mùa hạ, như mưa trong mùa gặt. | Like snow in summer and rain when the grain is being cut, so honour is not natural for the foolish. |
| Như chim sẻ bay đi đây đó, như con én liệng đi, Lời rủa sả vô cớ cũng vậy, nó chẳng hề xảy đến. | As the sparrow in her wandering and the swallow in her flight, so the curse does not come without a cause. |
| Roi nẹt dùng cho ngựa, hàm thiết để cho lừa, Còn roi vọt dành cho lưng kẻ ngu muội. | A whip for the horse, a mouth-bit for the ass, and a rod for the back of the foolish. |
| Chớ đáp với kẻ ngu si tùy sự ngu dại nó, E con giống như nó chăng. | Do not give to the foolish man a foolish answer, or you will be like him. |
| Hãy đáp với kẻ ngu si tùy sự ngu dại nó, Kẻo nó khôn ngoan theo mắt nó chăng. | Give a foolish man a foolish answer, or he will seem wise to himself. |

| Ai mướn người ngu muội và kẻ khách đi qua đường, Giống như một lính xạ tên làm thương mọi người. | Like an archer wounding all who go by, is a foolish man overcome by drink. |
| Kẻ ngu muội làm lại việc ngu dại mình, Khác nào con chó đã mửa ra, rồi liếm lại. | Like a dog going back to the food which he has not been able to keep down, is the foolish man doing his foolish acts over again. |
| Con có thấy người nào khôn ngoan theo mắt nó chăng? Còn có sự trông cậy cho kẻ ngu muội hơn là cho nó. | Have you seen a man who seems to himself to be wise? There is more hope for the foolish than for him. |

| Kẻ biếng nhác tự nghĩ mình khôn ngoan Hơn bảy người đáp lại cách có lý. | The hater of work seems to himself wiser than seven men who are able to give an answer with good sense. |
| Kẻ nào đi qua đường mà nổi giận về cuộc cãi lẫy không can đến mình, Khác nào kẻ nắm con chó nơi vành tai. | He who gets mixed up in a fight which is not his business, is like one who takes a dog by the ears while it is going by. |
| Người nào phỉnh gạt kẻ lân cận mình, Rồi nói rằng: Tôi chơi mà! | As one who is off his head sends about flaming sticks and arrows of death, |
| Khác nào kẻ điên cuồng ném than lửa, Cây tên, và sự chết. | So is the man who gets the better of his neighbour by deceit, and says, Am I not doing so in sport? |
| Lửa tắt tại thiếu củi; Khi chẳng có ai thèo lẻo cuộc tranh cạnh bèn nguôi. | Without wood, the fire goes out; and where there is no secret talk, argument is ended. |
| Than chụm cho than đỏ, và củi để chụm lửa; Người hay tranh cạnh xui nóng cãi cọ cũng vậy. | Like breath on coals and wood on fire, so a man given to argument gets a fight started. |
| Lời kẻ thèo lẻo giống như vật thực ngon, Vào thấu đến tận gan ruột. | The words of one who says evil of his neighbour secretly are like sweet food, they go down into the inner parts of the stomach. |
| Môi miệng sốt sắng và lòng độc ác, Khác nào bình gốm bọc vàng bạc pha. | Smooth lips and an evil heart are like a vessel of earth plated with silver waste. |
| Kẻ nào ghen ghét, dùng môi miệng nói giả đò, Nhưng trong lòng nó nuôi sự gian lận; | With his lips the hater makes things seem what they are not, but deceit is stored up inside him; |
| Khi nó nói ngọt nhạt, thì chớ tin; Vì trong lòng nó có bảy sự gớm ghiếc. | When he says fair words, have no belief in him; for in his heart are seven evils: |
| Dầu sự ghen ghét ẩn giấu trong tuồng giả bộ, Sự gian ác nó sẽ bị lộ ra nơi hội chúng. | Though his hate is covered with deceit, his sin will be seen openly before the meeting of the people. |
| Ai đào hầm sẽ té xuống đó; Kẻ nào lăn đá, đá sẽ trở đè lại nó. | He who makes a hole in the earth will himself go falling into it: and on him by whom a stone is rolled the stone will come back again. |
| Lưỡi giả dối ghét những kẻ nó đã chà nát; Và miệng dua nịnh gây điều bại hoại. | A false tongue has hate for those who have clean hearts, and a smooth mouth is a cause of falling. |
