| Come la neve non conviene all’estate, né la pioggia al tempo della mèsse, così non conviene la gloria allo stolto. | Like snow in summer and rain when the grain is being cut, so honour is not natural for the foolish. |
| Come il passero vaga qua e là e la rondine vola, così la maledizione senza motivo, non raggiunge l’effetto. | As the sparrow in her wandering and the swallow in her flight, so the curse does not come without a cause. |
| La frusta per il cavallo, la briglia per l’asino, e il bastone per il dosso degli stolti. | A whip for the horse, a mouth-bit for the ass, and a rod for the back of the foolish. |

| La lingua bugiarda odia quelli che ha ferito, e la bocca lusinghiera produce rovina. | A false tongue has hate for those who have clean hearts, and a smooth mouth is a cause of falling. |
