Deuteronomio 8

| Take care to keep all the orders which I give you today, so that you may have life and be increased and go in and take as a heritage the land which the Lord, by his oath to your fathers, undertook to give you. | Cuidaréis de poner por obra todo mandamiento que yo os ordeno hoy, porque viváis, y seáis multiplicados, y entréis, y poseáis la tierra, de la cual juró Jehová á vuestros padres. |
| And keep in mind the way by which the Lord your God has taken you through the waste land these forty years, so that he might make low your pride and put you to the test, to see what was in your heart and if you would keep his orders or not. | Y acordarte has de todo el camino por donde te ha traído Jehová tu Dios estos cuarenta años en el desierto, para afligirte, por probarte, para saber lo que estaba en tu corazón, si habías de guardar ó no sus mandamientos. |
| And he made low your pride and let you be without food and gave you manna for your food, a thing new to you, which your fathers never saw; so that he might make it clear to you that bread is not man's only need, but his life is in every word which comes out of the mouth of the Lord. | Y te afligió, é hízote tener hambre, y te sustentó con maná, comida que no conocías tú, ni tus padres la habían conocido; para hacerte saber que el hombre no vivirá de solo pan, mas de todo lo que sale de la boca de Jehová vivirá el hombre. |
| Through all these forty years your clothing did not get old or your feet become tired. | Tu vestido nunca se envejeció sobre ti, ni el pie se te ha hinchado por estos cuarenta años. |
| Keep in mind this thought, that as a son is trained by his father, so you have been trained by the Lord your God. | Reconoce asimismo en tu corazón, que como castiga el hombre á su hijo, así Jehová tu Dios te castiga. |
| Then keep the orders of the Lord your God, fearing him and walking in his ways. | Guardarás, pues, los mandamientos de Jehová tu Dios, andando en sus caminos, y temiéndolo. |
| For the Lord your God is guiding you into a good land, a land of water-springs, of fountains, and deep streams flowing out from the valleys and the hills; | Porque Jehová tu Dios te introduce en la buena tierra, tierra de arroyos, de aguas, de fuentes, de abismos que brotan por vegas y montes; |
| A land of grain and vines and fig-trees and fair fruits; a land of oil-giving olive-trees and honey; | Tierra de trigo y cebada, y de vides, é higueras, y granados; tierra de olivas, de aceite, y de miel; |
| Where there will be bread for you in full measure and you will be in need of nothing; a land where the very stones are iron and from whose hills you may get copper. | Tierra en la cual no comerás el pan con escasez, no te faltará nada en ella; tierra que sus piedras son hierro, y de sus montes cortarás metal. |
| And you will have food enough and be full, praising the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. | Y comerás y te hartarás, y bendecirás á Jehová tu Dios por la buena tierra que te habrá dado. |
| Then take care that you are not turned away from the Lord your God and from keeping his orders and decisions and laws which I give you this day: | Guárdate, que no te olvides de Jehová tu Dios, para no observar sus mandamientos, y sus derechos, y sus estatutos, que yo te ordeno hoy: |
| And when you have taken food and are full, and have made fair houses for yourselves and are living in them; | Que quizá no comas y te hartes, y edifiques buenas casas en que mores, |
| And when your herds and your flocks are increased, and your stores of silver and gold, and you have wealth of every sort; | Y tus vacas y tus ovejas se aumenten, y la plata y el oro se te multiplique, y todo lo que tuvieres se te aumente, |
| Take care that your hearts are not lifted up in pride, giving no thought to the Lord your God who took you out of the land of Egypt, out of the prison-house; | Y se eleve luego tu corazón, y te olvides de Jehová tu Dios, que te sacó de tierra de Egipto, de casa de siervos; |
| Who was your guide through that great and cruel waste, where there were poison-snakes and scorpions and a dry land without water; who made water come out of the hard rock for you; | Que te hizo caminar por un desierto grande y espantoso, de serpientes ardientes, y de escorpiones, y de sed, donde ningún agua había, y él te sacó agua de la roca del pedernal; |
| Who gave you manna for your food in the waste land, a food which your fathers had never seen; so that your pride might be broken and your hearts tested for your good in the end; | Que te sustentó con maná en el desierto, comida que tus padres no habían conocido, afligiéndote y probándote, para á la postre hacerte bien; |
| Say not then, in your hearts, My power and the strength of my hands have got me this wealth. | Y digas en tu corazón: Mi poder y la fortaleza de mi mano me han traído esta riqueza. |
| But keep in mind the Lord your God: for it is he who gives you the power to get wealth, so that he may give effect to the agreement which he made by his oath with your fathers, as at this day. | Antes acuérdate de Jehová tu Dios: porque él te da el poder para hacer las riquezas, á fin de confirmar su pacto que juró á tus padres, como en este día. |
| And it is certain that if at any time you are turned away from the Lord your God, and go after other gods, to be their servants and to give them worship, destruction will overtake you. | Mas será, si llegares á olvidarte de Jehová tu Dios, y anduvieres en pos de dioses ajenos, y les sirvieres, y á ellos te encorvares, protésto lo hoy contra vosotros, que de cierto pereceréis. |
| Like the nations which the Lord is cutting off before you, so you will be cut off; because you would not give ear to the voice of the Lord your God. | Como las gentes que Jehová destruirá delante de vosotros, así pereceréis; por cuanto no habréis atendido á la voz de Jehová vuestro Dios. |
