Deuteronomio 8
|
| Take care to keep all the orders which I give you today, so that you may have life and be increased and go in and take as a heritage the land which the Lord, by his oath to your fathers, undertook to give you. | Abbiate cura di mettere in pratica tutti i comandamenti che oggi vi do, affinché viviate, moltiplichiate, ed entriate in possesso del paese che l’Eterno giurò di dare ai vostri padri. |
| And keep in mind the way by which the Lord your God has taken you through the waste land these forty years, so that he might make low your pride and put you to the test, to see what was in your heart and if you would keep his orders or not. | Ricordati di tutto il cammino che l’Eterno, l’Iddio tuo, ti ha fatto fare questi quarant’anni nel deserto per umiliarti e metterti alla prova, per sapere quello che avevi nel cuore, e se tu osserveresti o no i suoi comandamenti. |
| And he made low your pride and let you be without food and gave you manna for your food, a thing new to you, which your fathers never saw; so that he might make it clear to you that bread is not man's only need, but his life is in every word which comes out of the mouth of the Lord. | Egli dunque t’ha umiliato, t’ha fatto provar la fame, poi t’ha nutrito di manna che tu non conoscevi e che i tuoi padri non avean mai conosciuta, per insegnarti che l’uomo non vive soltanto di pane, ma vive di tutto quello che la bocca dell’Eterno avrà ordinato. |
| Through all these forty years your clothing did not get old or your feet become tired. | Il tuo vestito non ti s’è logorato addosso, e il tuo piè non s’è gonfiato durante questi quarant’anni. |
| Keep in mind this thought, that as a son is trained by his father, so you have been trained by the Lord your God. | Riconosci dunque in cuor tuo che, come un uomo corregge il suo figliuolo, così l’Iddio tuo, l’Eterno, corregge te. |
| Then keep the orders of the Lord your God, fearing him and walking in his ways. | E osserva i comandamenti dell’Eterno, dell’Iddio tuo, camminando nelle sue vie e temendolo; |
| For the Lord your God is guiding you into a good land, a land of water-springs, of fountains, and deep streams flowing out from the valleys and the hills; | perché il tuo Dio, l’Eterno, sta per farti entrare in un buon paese: paese di corsi d’acqua, di laghi e di sorgenti che nascono nelle valli e nei monti; |
| A land of grain and vines and fig-trees and fair fruits; a land of oil-giving olive-trees and honey; | paese di frumento, d’orzo, di vigne, di fichi e di melagrani; paese d’ulivi da olio e di miele; |
| Where there will be bread for you in full measure and you will be in need of nothing; a land where the very stones are iron and from whose hills you may get copper. | paese dove mangerai del pane a volontà, dove non ti mancherà nulla; paese dove le pietre son ferro, e dai cui monti scaverai il rame. |
| And you will have food enough and be full, praising the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. | Mangerai dunque e ti sazierai, e benedirai l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, a motivo del buon paese che t’avrà dato. |
| Then take care that you are not turned away from the Lord your God and from keeping his orders and decisions and laws which I give you this day: | Guardati bene dal dimenticare il tuo Dio, l’Eterno, al punto da non osservare i suoi comandamenti, le sue prescrizioni e le sue leggi che oggi ti do; |
| And when you have taken food and are full, and have made fair houses for yourselves and are living in them; | onde non avvenga, dopo che avrai mangiato a sazietà ed avrai edificato e abitato delle belle case, |
| And when your herds and your flocks are increased, and your stores of silver and gold, and you have wealth of every sort; | dopo che avrai veduto il tuo grosso e il tuo minuto bestiame moltiplicare, accrescersi il tuo argento e il tuo oro, ed abbondare ogni cosa tua, |
| Take care that your hearts are not lifted up in pride, giving no thought to the Lord your God who took you out of the land of Egypt, out of the prison-house; | che il tuo cuore s’innalzi, e tu dimentichi il tuo Dio, l’Eterno, che ti ha tratto dal paese d’Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù; |
| Who was your guide through that great and cruel waste, where there were poison-snakes and scorpions and a dry land without water; who made water come out of the hard rock for you; | che t’ha condotto attraverso questo grande e terribile deserto, pieno di serpenti ardenti e di scorpioni, terra arida, senz’acqua; che ha fatto sgorgare per te dell’acqua dalla durissima rupe; |
| Who gave you manna for your food in the waste land, a food which your fathers had never seen; so that your pride might be broken and your hearts tested for your good in the end; | che nel deserto t’ha nutrito di manna che i tuoi padri non avean mai conosciuta, per umiliarti e per provarti, per farti, alla fine, del bene. |
| Say not then, in your hearts, My power and the strength of my hands have got me this wealth. | Guardati dunque dal dire in cuor tuo: "La mia forza e la potenza della mia mano m’hanno acquistato queste ricchezze"; |
| But keep in mind the Lord your God: for it is he who gives you the power to get wealth, so that he may give effect to the agreement which he made by his oath with your fathers, as at this day. | ma ricordati dell’Eterno, dell’Iddio tuo; poiché egli ti dà la forza per acquistar ricchezze, affin di confermare, come fa oggi, il patto che giurò ai tuoi padri. |
| And it is certain that if at any time you are turned away from the Lord your God, and go after other gods, to be their servants and to give them worship, destruction will overtake you. | Ma se avvenga che tu dimentichi il tuo Dio, l’Eterno, e vada dietro ad altri dèi e li serva e ti prostri davanti a loro, io vi dichiaro quest’oggi solennemente che certo perirete. |
| Like the nations which the Lord is cutting off before you, so you will be cut off; because you would not give ear to the voice of the Lord your God. | Perirete come le nazioni che l’Eterno fa perire davanti a voi, perché non avrete dato ascolto alla voce dell’Eterno, dell’Iddio vostro. |
