| Fliehet, ihr Kinder Benjamin, aus Jerusalem und blaset die Drommete auf der Warte Thekoa und werft auf ein Panier über der Warte Beth-Cherem! denn es geht daher ein Unglück von Mitternacht und ein großer Jammer. | Go in flight out of Jerusalem, so that you may be safe, you children of Benjamin, and let the horn be sounded in Tekoa, and the flag be lifted up on Beth-haccherem: for evil is looking out from the north, and a great destruction. |
| Die Tochter Zion ist wie eine schöne und lustige Aue. | The fair and delicate one, the daughter of Zion, will be cut off by my hand. |
| Aber es werden die Hirten über sie kommen mit ihren Herden, die werden Gezelte rings um sie her aufschlagen und weiden ein jeglicher an seinem Ort und sprechen: | Keepers of sheep with their flocks will come to her; they will put up their tents round her; everyone will get food in his place. |
| "Rüstet euch zum Krieg wider sie! Wohlauf, laßt uns hinaufziehen, weil es noch hoch Tag ist! Ei, es will Abend werden, und die Schatten werden groß! | Make war ready against her; up! let us go up when the sun is high. Sorrow is ours! for the day is turned and the shades of evening are stretched out. |
| Wohlan, so laßt uns auf sein, und sollten wir bei Nacht hinaufziehen und ihre Paläste verderben!" | Up! let us go up by night, and send destruction on her great houses. |
| Denn also spricht der HERR Zebaoth: Fällt die Bäume und werft einen Wall auf wider Jerusalem; denn sie ist eine Stadt, die heimgesucht werden soll. Ist doch eitel Unrecht darin. | For this is what the Lord of armies has said: Let trees be cut down and an earthwork be placed against Jerusalem: sorrow on the false town! inside her there is nothing but cruel ways. |
| Denn gleichwie ein Born sein Wasser quillt, also quillt auch ihre Bosheit. Ihr Frevel und Gewalt schreit über sie, und ihr Morden und Schlagen treiben sie täglich vor mir. | As the spring keeps its waters cold, so she keeps her evil in her: the sound of cruel and violent behaviour is in her; before me at all times are disease and wounds. |
| Bessere dich Jerusalem, ehe sich mein Herz von dir wendet und ich dich zum wüsten Lande mache, darin niemand wohne! | Undergo teaching, O Jerusalem, or my soul will be turned away from you, and I will make you a waste, an unpeopled land. |
| So spricht der HERR Zebaoth: Was übriggeblieben ist von Israel, das muß nachgelesen werden wie am Weinstock. Der Weinleser wird eins nach dem andern in die Butten werfen. | This is what the Lord of armies has said: Everything will be taken from the rest of Israel as the last grapes are taken from the vine; let your hand be turned to the small branches, like one pulling off grapes. |
| Ach, mit wem soll ich doch reden und zeugen? Daß doch jemand hören wollte! Aber ihre Ohren sind unbeschnitten; sie können's nicht hören. Siehe, sie halten des HERRN Wort für einen Spott und wollen es nicht. | To whom am I to give word, witnessing so that they may take note? see, their ears are stopped, and they are not able to give attention: see, the word of the Lord has been a cause of shame to them, they have no delight in it. |
| Darum bin ich von des HERRN Drohen so voll, daß ich's nicht lassen kann. Schütte es aus über die Kinder auf der Gasse und über die Mannschaft im Rat miteinander; denn es sollen beide, Mann und Weib, Alte und der Wohlbetagte, gefangen werden. | For this reason I am full of the wrath of the Lord, I am tired of keeping it in: may it be let loose on the children in the street, and on the band of the young men together: for even the husband with his wife will be taken, the old man with him who is full of days. |
| Ihre Häuser sollen den Fremden zuteil werden samt den Äckern und Weibern; denn ich will meine Hand ausstrecken, spricht der HERR, über des Landes Einwohner. | And their houses will be handed over to others, their fields and their wives together: for my hand will be stretched out against the people of the land, says the Lord. |
| Denn sie geizen allesamt, klein und groß; und beide, Propheten und Priester, gehen allesamt mit Lügen um | For from the least of them even to the greatest, everyone is given up to getting money; from the prophet even to the priest, everyone is working deceit. |
| und trösten mein Volk in seinem Unglück, daß sie es gering achten sollen, und sagen: "Friede! Friede!", und ist doch nicht Friede. | And they have made little of the wounds of my people, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. |
| Darum werden sie mit Schanden bestehen, daß sie solche Greuel treiben; wiewohl sie wollen ungeschändet sein und wollen sich nicht schämen. Darum müssen sie fallen auf einen Haufen; und wenn ich sie heimsuchen werde, sollen sie stürzen, spricht der HERR. | Let them be put to shame because they have done disgusting things. They had no shame, they were not able to become red with shame: so they will come down with those who are falling: when my punishment comes on them, they will be made low, says the Lord. |
| So spricht der HERR: Tretet auf die Wege und schauet und fraget nach den vorigen Wegen, welches der gute Weg sei, und wandelt darin, so werdet ihr Ruhe finden für eure Seele! Aber sie sprechen: Wir wollen's nicht tun! | This is what the Lord has said: Take your place looking out on the ways; make search for the old roads, saying, Where is the good way? and go in it that you may have rest for your souls. But they said, We will not go in it. |
| Ich habe Wächter über dich gesetzt: Merket auf die Stimme der Drommete! Aber sie sprechen: Wir wollen's nicht tun! | And I put watchmen over you, saying, Give attention to the sound of the horn; but they said, We will not give attention. |
| Darum so höret, ihr Heiden, und merket samt euren Leuten! | So then, give ear, you nations, and ... |
| Du, Erde, höre zu! Siehe, ich will ein Unglück über dies Volk bringen, darum daß sie auf meine Worte nicht achten und mein Gesetz verwerfen. | Give ear, O earth: see, I will make evil come on this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not given attention to my words, and they would have nothing to do with my law. |
| Was frage ich nach Weihrauch aus Reicharabien und nach den guten Zimtrinden, die aus fernen Landen kommen? Eure Brandopfer sind mir nicht angenehm, und eure Opfer gefallen mir nicht. | To what purpose does sweet perfume come to me from Sheba, and spices from a far country? your burned offerings give me no pleasure, your offerings of beasts are not pleasing to me. |
| Darum spricht der HERR also: Siehe, ich will diesem Volk einen Anstoß in den Weg stellen, daran sich die Väter und Kinder miteinander stoßen und ein Nachbar mit dem andern umkommen sollen. | For this reason the Lord has said, See, I will put stones in the way of this people: and the fathers and the sons together will go falling over them; the neighbour and his friend will come to destruction. |
| So spricht der HERR: Siehe, es wird ein Volk kommen von Mitternacht, und ein großes Volk wird sich erregen vom Ende der Erde, | The Lord has said, See, a people is coming from the north country, a great nation will be put in motion from the inmost parts of the earth. |
| die Bogen und Lanze führen. Es ist grausam und ohne Barmherzigkeit; sie brausen daher wie ein ungestümes Meer und reiten auf Rossen, gerüstet wie Kriegsleute, wider dich, du Tochter Zion. | Bows and spears are in their hands; they are cruel and have no mercy; their voice is like the thunder of the sea, and they go on horses; everyone in his place like men going to the fight, against you, O daughter of Zion. |
| Wenn wir von ihnen hören werden, so werden uns die Fäuste entsinken; es wird uns angst und weh werden wie einer Gebärerin. | The news of it has come to our ears; our hands have become feeble: trouble has come on us and pain, like the pain of a woman in childbirth. |
| Es gehe ja niemand hinaus auf den Acker, niemand gehe über Feld; denn es ist allenthalben unsicher vor dem Schwert des Feindes. | Go not out into the field or by the way; for there is the sword of the attacker, and fear on every side. |
| O Tochter meines Volks, zieh Säcke an und lege dich in Asche; trage Leid wie um einen einzigen Sohn und klage wie die, so hoch betrübt sind! denn der Verderber kommt über uns plötzlich. | O daughter of my people, put on haircloth, rolling yourself in the dust: give yourself to sorrow, as for an only son, with most bitter cries of grief; for he who makes waste will come on us suddenly. |
| Ich habe dich zum Schmelzer gesetzt unter mein Volk, das so hart ist, daß du ihr Wesen erfahren und prüfen sollst. | I have made you a tester among my people, so that you may have knowledge of their way and put it to the test. |
| Sie sind allzumal Abtrünnige und wandeln verräterisch, sind Erz und Eisen; alle sind sie verderbt. | All of them are turned away, going about with false stories; they are brass and iron: they are all workers of deceit. |
| Der Blasebalg ist verbrannt, das Blei verschwindet; das Schmelzen ist umsonst, denn das Böse ist nicht davon geschieden. | The blower is blowing strongly, the lead is burned away in the fire: they go on heating the metal to no purpose, for the evil-doers are not taken away. |
| Darum heißen sie auch ein verworfenes Silber; denn der HERR hat sie verworfen. | They will be named waste silver, because the Lord has given them up. |
