| The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah (the same was the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon,) | La parola che fu rivolta a Geremia riguardo a tutto il popolo di Giuda, nel quarto anno di Joiakim, figliuolo di Giosia, re di Giuda (era il primo anno di Nebucadnetsar, re di Babilonia), |
| which Jeremiah the prophet spake unto all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying: | e che Geremia pronunziò davanti a tutto il popolo di Giuda e a tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, dicendo: |
| From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even unto this day, these three and twenty years, the word of Jehovah hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising up early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened. | Dal tredicesimo anno di Giosia, figliuolo di Amon, re di Giuda, fino ad oggi, son già ventitre anni che la parola dell’Eterno m’è stata rivolta, e che io v’ho parlato del continuo, fin dal mattino, ma voi non avete dato ascolto. |
| And Jehovah hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, (but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear,) | L’Eterno vi ha pure mandato tutti i suoi servitori, i profeti; ve li ha mandati del continuo fin dal mattino, ma voi non avete ubbidito, né avete pòrto l’orecchio per ascoltare. |
| saying, Return ye now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that Jehovah hath given unto you and to your fathers, from of old and even for evermore; | Essi hanno detto: "Convertasi ciascun di voi dalla sua cattiva via e dalla malvagità delle sue azioni, e voi abiterete di secolo in secolo sul suolo che l’Eterno ha dato a voi e ai vostri padri; |
| and go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the work of your hands; and I will do you no hurt. | e non andate dietro ad altri dèi per servirli e per prostrarvi dinanzi a loro; non mi provocate con l’opera delle vostre mani, e io non vi farò male alcuno". |
| Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith Jehovah; that ye may provoke me to anger with the work of your hands to your own hurt. | Ma voi non mi avete dato ascolto, dice l’Eterno per provocarmi, a vostro danno, con l’opera delle vostre mani. |
| Therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Because ye have not heard my words, | Perciò, così dice l’Eterno degli eserciti: Giacché non avete dato ascolto alle mie parole, ecco, |
| behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith Jehovah, and [I will send] unto Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about; and I will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations. | io manderò a prendere tutte le nazioni del settentrione, dice l’Eterno, e manderò a chiamare Nebucadnetsar re di Babilonia, mio servitore, e le farò venire contro questo paese e contro i suoi abitanti, e contro tutte le nazioni che gli stanno d’intorno, e li voterò allo sterminio e li abbandonerò alla desolazione, alla derisione, a una solitudine perpetua. |
| Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the lamp. | E farò cessare fra loro i gridi di gioia e i gridi d’esultanza, il canto dello sposo e il canto della sposa, il rumore della macina, e la luce della lampada. |
| And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. | E tutto questo paese sarà ridotto in una solitudine e in una desolazione, e queste nazioni serviranno il re di Babilonia per settant’anni. |
| And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith Jehovah, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans; and I will make it desolate for ever. | Ma quando saran compiuti i settant’anni, io punirò il re di Babilonia e quella nazione, dice l’Eterno, a motivo della loro iniquità, e punirò il paese de’ Caldei, e lo ridurrò in una desolazione perpetua. |
| And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations. | E farò venire su quel paese tutte le cose che ho annunziate contro di lui, tutto ciò ch’è scritto in questo libro, ciò che Geremia ha profetizzato contro tutte le nazioni. |
| For many nations and great kings shall make bondmen of them, even of them; and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the work of their hands. | Infatti, nazioni numerose e re potenti ridurranno in servitù i Caldei stessi; io li retribuirò secondo le loro azioni, secondo l’opera delle loro mani. |
| For thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, unto me: take this cup of the wine of wrath at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it. | Poiché così m’ha parlato l’Eterno, l’Iddio d’Israele: Prendi di mano mia questa coppa del vino della mia ira, e danne a bere a tutte le nazioni alle quali ti manderò. |
| And they shall drink, and reel to and fro, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them. | Esse berranno, barcolleranno, saran come pazze, a motivo della spada ch’io manderò fra loro. |
| Then took I the cup at Jehovah's hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom Jehovah had sent me: | E io presi la coppa di mano dell’Eterno, e ne diedi a bere a tutte le nazioni alle quali l’Eterno mi mandava: |
| [to wit], Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse, as it is this day; | a Gerusalemme e alle città di Giuda, ai suoi re ed ai suoi principi, per abbandonarli alla rovina, alla desolazione, alla derisione, alla maledizione, come oggi si vede; |
| Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; | a Faraone, re d’Egitto, ai suoi servitori, ai suoi principi, a tutto il suo popolo; |
| and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of the Uz, and all the kings of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod; | a tutta la mescolanza di popoli, a tutti i re del paese di Ur, a tutti i re del paese de’ Filistei, ad Askalon, a Gaza, a Ekron, e al residuo d’Asdod; |
| Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon; | a Edom, a Moab, e ai figliuoli d’Ammon; |
| and all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the isle which is beyond the sea; | a tutti i re di Tiro, a tutti i re di Sidon, e ai re delle isole d’oltremare; |
| Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that have the corners [of their hair] cut off; | a Dedan, a Tema, a Buz, e a tutti quelli che si radono i canti della barba; |
| and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the wilderness; | tutti i re d’Arabia, e a tutti i re della mescolanza di popoli che abita nel deserto; |
| and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes; | a tutti i re di Zimri, a tutti i re d’Elam, |
| and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another; and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them. | e a tutti i re di Media e a tutti i re del settentrione, vicini o lontani, agli uni e agli altri, e a tutti i regni del mondo che sono sulla faccia della terra. E il re di Sceshac ne berrà dopo di loro. |
| And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink ye, and be drunken, and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you. | Tu dirai loro: Così parla l’Eterno degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Bevete, ubriacatevi, vomitate, cadete senza rialzarvi più, dinanzi alla spada ch’io mando fra voi. |
| And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thy hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Ye shall surely drink. | E se ricusano di prender dalla tua mano la coppa per bere, di’ loro: Così dice l’Eterno degli eserciti: Voi berrete in ogni modo! |
| For, lo, I begin to work evil at the city which is called by my name; and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished; for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith Jehovah of hosts. | Poiché, ecco, io comincio a punire la città sulla quale è invocato il mio nome, e voi rimarreste del tutto impuniti? Voi non rimarrete impuniti; poiché io chiamerò la spada su tutti gli abitanti della terra, dice l’Eterno degli eserciti. |
| Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, Jehovah will roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he will mightily roar against his fold; he will give a shout, as they that tread [the grapes], against all the inhabitants of the earth. | E tu, profetizza loro tutte queste cose, e di’ loro: l’Eterno rugge dall’alto, e fa risonare la sua voce dalla sua santa dimora; egli rugge fieramente contro la sua residenza; manda un grido, come quelli che calcan l’uva, contro tutti gli abitanti della terra. |
| A noise shall come even to the end of the earth; for Jehovah hath a controversy with the nations; he will enter into judgment with all flesh: as for the wicked, he will give them to the sword, saith Jehovah. | Il rumore ne giunge fino all’estremità della terra; poiché l’Eterno ha una lite con le nazioni, egli entra in giudizio contro ogni carne; gli empi, li dà in balìa della spada, dice l’Eterno. |
| Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great tempest shall be raised up from the uttermost parts of the earth. | Così parla l’Eterno degli eserciti: Ecco, una calamità passa di nazione in nazione, e un gran turbine si leva dalle estremità della terra. |
| And the slain of Jehovah shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the face of the ground. | In quel giorno, gli uccisi dall’Eterno copriranno la terra dall’una all’altra estremità di essa, e non saranno rimpianti, né raccolti, né seppelliti; serviranno di letame sulla faccia del suolo. |
| Wail, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow [in ashes], ye principal of the flock; for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are fully come, and ye shall fall like a goodly vessel. | Urlate, o pastori, gridate, voltolatevi nella polvere, o guide del gregge! Poiché è giunto il tempo in cui dovete essere scannati; io vi frantumerò, e cadrete come un vaso prezioso. |
| And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape. | Ai pastori mancherà ogni rifugio, e le guide del gregge non avranno via di scampo. |
| A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and the wailing of the principal of the flock! for Jehovah layeth waste their pasture. | S’ode il grido de’ pastori e l’urlo delle guide del gregge; poiché l’Eterno devasta il loro pascolo; |
| And the peaceable folds are brought to silence because of the fierce anger of Jehovah. | e i tranquilli ovili son ridotti al silenzio, a motivo dell’ardente ira dell’Eterno. |
| He hath left his covert, as the lion; for their land is become an astonishment because of the fierceness of the oppressing [sword], and because of his fierce anger. | Egli ha abbandonato il suo ricetto, come un leoncello, perché il loro paese è diventato una desolazione, a motivo del furor della spada crudele, a motivo dell’ardente ira dell’Eterno. |
