| Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek Jehovah: look unto the rock whence ye were hewn, and to the hold of the pit whence ye were digged. | Ascoltatemi, voi che procacciate la giustizia, che cercate l’Eterno! Considerate la roccia onde foste tagliati, e la buca della cava onde foste cavati. |
| Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you; for when he was but one I called him, and I blessed him, and made him many. | Considerate Abrahamo vostro padre, e Sara che vi partorì; poiché io lo chiamai quand’egli era solo, lo benedissi e lo moltiplicai. |
| For Jehovah hath comforted Zion; he hath comforted all her waste places, and hath made her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of Jehovah; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody. | Così l’Eterno sta per consolare Sion, consolerà tutte le sue ruine; renderà il deserto di lei pari ad un Eden, e la sua solitudine pari a un giardino dell’Eterno. Gioia ed allegrezza si troveranno in mezzo a lei, inni di lode e melodia di canti. |
| Attend unto me, O my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall go forth from me, and I will establish my justice for a light of the peoples. | Prestami attenzione, o popolo mio! Porgimi orecchio, o mia nazione! Poiché la legge procederà da me, ed io porrò il mio diritto come una luce dei popoli. |
| My righteousness is near, my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the peoples; the isles shall wait for me, and on mine arm shall they trust. | La mia giustizia è vicina, la mia salvezza sta per apparire, e le mie braccia giudicheranno i popoli; le isole spereranno in me, e confideranno nel mio braccio. |
| Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath; for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment; and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished. | Alzate gli occhi vostri al cielo, e abbassateli sulla terra! Poiché i cieli si dilegueranno come fumo, la terra invecchierà come un vestito, e i suoi abitanti parimente morranno; ma la mia salvezza durerà in eterno, e la mia giustizia non verrà mai meno. |
| Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye dismayed at their revilings. | Ascoltatemi, o voi che conoscete la giustizia, o popolo che hai nel cuore la mia legge! Non temete l’obbrobrio degli uomini, né siate sgomenti per i loro oltraggi. |
| For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool; but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation unto all generations. | Poiché la tignola li divorerà come un vestito, e la tarma li roderà come la lana; ma la mia giustizia rimarrà in eterno, e la mia salvezza, per ogni età. |
| Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of Jehovah; awake, as in the days of old, the generations of ancient times. Is it not thou that didst cut Rahab in pieces, that didst pierce the monster? | Risvegliati, risvegliati, rivestiti di forza, o braccio dell’Eterno! Risvegliati come ne’ giorni andati, come nelle antiche età! Non sei tu che facesti a pezzi Rahab, che trafiggesti il dragone? |
| Is it not thou that driedst up the sea, the waters of the great deep; that madest the depths of the sea a way for the redeemed to pass over? | Non sei tu che prosciugasti il mare, le acque del grande abisso, che facesti delle profondità del mare una via per il passaggio dei redenti? |
| And the ransomed of Jehovah shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads: they shall obtain gladness and joy; [and] sorrow and sighing shall flee away. | E i riscattati dall’Eterno torneranno, verranno con canti di gioia a Sion, e un’allegrezza eterna coronerà il loro capo; otterranno letizia, allegrezza, il dolore e il gemito fuggiranno. |
| I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou art afraid of man that shall die, and of the son of man that shall be made as grass; | Io, io son colui che vi consola; chi sei tu che tu tema l’uomo che deve morire, e il figliuol dell’uomo che passerà com’erba; |
| and hast forgotten Jehovah thy Maker, that stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and fearest continually all the day because of the fury of the oppressor, when he maketh ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor? | che tu dimentichi l’Eterno, che t’ha fatto, che ha disteso i cieli e fondata la terra; che tu tremi continuamente, tutto il giorno, dinanzi al furore dell’oppressore, quando s’appresta a distruggere? E dov’è dunque il furore dell’oppressore? |
| The captive exile shall speedily be loosed; and he shall not die [and go down] into the pit, neither shall his bread fail. | Colui ch’è curvo nei ceppi sarà bentosto liberato; non morrà nella fossa, e non gli mancherà il pane. |
| For I am Jehovah thy God, who stirreth up the sea, so that the waves thereof roar: Jehovah of hosts is his name. | Poiché io sono l’Eterno degli eserciti, il tuo Dio, che solleva il mare, e ne fa muggir le onde; il cui nome è: l’Eterno degli eserciti. |
| And I have put my words in thy mouth, and have covered thee in the shadow of my hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people. | Ed io ho messo le mie parole nella tua bocca, e t’ho coperto con l’ombra della mia mano per piantare de’ cieli e fondare una terra, e per dire a Sion: "Tu sei il mio popolo". |
| Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, that hast drunk at the hand of Jehovah the cup of his wrath; thou hast drunken the bowl of the cup of staggering, and drained it. | Risvegliati, risvegliati, lèvati, o Gerusalemme, che hai bevuto dalla mano dell’Eterno la coppa del suo furore, che hai bevuto il calice, la coppa di stordimento, e l’hai succhiata fino in fondo! |
| There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand among all the sons that she hath brought up. | Fra tutti i figliuoli ch’ell’ha partoriti non v’è alcuno che la guidi; fra tutti i figliuoli ch’ell’ha allevati non v’è alcuno che la prenda per mano. |
| These two things are befallen thee, who shall bemoan thee? desolation and destruction, and the famine and the sword; how shall I comfort thee? | Queste due cose ti sono avvenute: chi ti compiangerà? desolazione e rovina, fame e spada: Chi ti consolerà? |
| Thy sons have fainted, they lie at the head of all the streets, as an antelope in a net; they are full of the wrath of Jehovah, the rebuke of thy God. | I tuoi figliuoli venivano meno, giacevano a tutti i capi delle strade, come un’antilope nella rete, prostrati dal furore dell’Eterno, dalle minacce del tuo Dio. |
| Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but now with wine: | Perciò, ascolta or questo, o infelice, ed ebbra, ma non di vino! |
| Thus saith thy Lord Jehovah, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thy hand the cup of staggering, even the bowl of the cup of my wrath; thou shalt no more drink it again: | Così parla il tuo Signore, l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, che difende la causa del suo popolo: Ecco, io ti tolgo di mano la coppa di stordimento, il calice, la coppa del mio furore; tu non la berrai più! |
| and I will put it into the hand of them that afflict thee, that have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over; and thou hast laid thy back as the ground, and as the street, to them that go over. | Io la metterò in mano de’ tuoi persecutori, che dicevano all’anima tua: "Chinati, che ti passiamo addosso!" e tu facevi del tuo dosso un suolo, una strada per i passanti! |
