Ecclesiastes 7

| Доброе имя лучше дорогой масти, и день смерти--дня рождения. | A good name is better than oil of great price, and the day of death than the day of birth. |
| Лучше ходить в дом плача об умершем, нежели ходить в дом пира; ибо таков конец всякого человека, и живой приложит [это] к своему сердцу. | It is better to go to the house of weeping, than to go to the house of feasting; because that is the end of every man, and the living will take it to their hearts. |
| Сетование лучше смеха; потому что при печали лица сердце делается лучше. | Sorrow is better than joy; when the face is sad the mind gets better. |
| Сердце мудрых--в доме плача, а сердце глупых--в доме веселья. | The hearts of the wise are in the house of weeping; but the hearts of the foolish are in the house of joy. |
| Лучше слушать обличения от мудрого, нежели слушать песни глупых; | It is better to take note of the protest of the wise, than for a man to give ear to the song of the foolish. |
| потому что смех глупых то же, что треск тернового хвороста под котлом. И это--суета! | Like the cracking of thorns under a pot, so is the laugh of a foolish man; and this again is to no purpose. |
| Притесняя других, мудрый делается глупым, и подарки портят сердце. | The wise are troubled by the ways of the cruel, and the giving of money is the destruction of the heart. |
| Конец дела лучше начала его; терпеливый лучше высокомерного. | The end of a thing is better than its start, and a gentle spirit is better than pride. |
| Не будь духом твоим поспешен на гнев, потому что гнев гнездится в сердце глупых. | Be not quick to let your spirit be angry; because wrath is in the heart of the foolish. |
| Не говори: `отчего это прежние дни были лучше нынешних?`, потому что не от мудрости ты спрашиваешь об этом. | Say not, Why were the days which have gone by better than these? Such a question comes not from wisdom. |
| Хороша мудрость с наследством, и особенно для видящих солнце: | Wisdom together with a heritage is good, and a profit to those who see the sun. |
| потому что под сенью ее [то же, что] под сенью серебра; но превосходство знания в [том, что] мудрость дает жизнь владеющему ею. | Wisdom keeps a man from danger even as money does; but the value of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to its owner. |
| Смотри на действование Божие: ибо кто может выпрямить то, что Он сделал кривым? | Give thought to the work of God. Who will make straight what he has made bent? |
| Во дни благополучия пользуйся благом, а во дни несчастья размышляй: то и другое соделал Бог для того, чтобы человек ничего не мог сказать против Него. | In the day of wealth have joy, but in the day of evil take thought: God has put the one against the other, so that man may not be certain what will be after him. |
| Всего насмотрелся я в суетные дни мои: праведник гибнет в праведности своей; нечестивый живет долго в нечестии своем. | These two have I seen in my life which is to no purpose: a good man coming to his end in his righteousness, and an evil man whose days are long in his evil-doing. |
| Не будь слишком строг, и не выставляй себя слишком мудрым; зачем тебе губить себя? | Be not given overmuch to righteousness and be not over-wise. Why let destruction come on you? |
| Не предавайся греху, и не будь безумен: зачем тебе умирать не в свое время? | Be not evil overmuch, and be not foolish. Why come to your end before your time? |
| Хорошо, если ты будешь держаться одного и не отнимать руки от другого; потому что кто боится Бога, тот избежит всего того. | It is good to take this in your hand and not to keep your hand from that; he who has the fear of God will be free of the two. |
| Мудрость делает мудрого сильнее десяти властителей, которые в городе. | Wisdom makes a wise man stronger than ten rulers in a town. |
| Нет человека праведного на земле, который делал бы добро и не грешил бы; | There is no man on earth of such righteousness that he does good and is free from sin all his days. |
| поэтому не на всякое слово, которое говорят, обращай внимание, чтобы не услышать тебе раба твоего, когда он злословит тебя; | Do not give ear to all the words which men say, for fear of hearing the curses of your servant. |
| ибо сердце твое знает много случаев, когда и сам ты злословил других. | Your heart has knowledge how frequently others have been cursed by you. |
| Все это испытал я мудростью; я сказал: `буду я мудрым`; но мудрость далека от меня. | All this I have put to the test by wisdom; I said, I will be wise, but it was far from me. |
| Далеко то, что было, и глубоко--глубоко: кто постигнет его? | Far off is true existence, and very deep; who may have knowledge of it? |
| Обратился я сердцем моим к тому, чтобы узнать, исследовать и изыскать мудрость и разум, и познать нечестие глупости, невежества и безумия, -- | I gave my mind to knowledge and to searching for wisdom and the reason of things, and to the discovery that sin is foolish, and that to be foolish is to be without one's senses. |
| и нашел я, что горче смерти женщина, потому что она--сеть, и сердце ее--силки, руки ее--оковы; добрый пред Богом спасется от нее, а грешник уловлен будет ею. | And I saw a thing more bitter than death, even the woman whose heart is full of tricks and nets, and whose hands are as bands. He with whom God is pleased will get free from her, but the sinner will be taken by her. |
| Вот это нашел я, сказал Екклесиаст, испытывая одно за другим. | Look! this I have seen, said the Preacher, taking one thing after another to get the true account, |
| Чего еще искала душа моя, и я не нашел? --Мужчину одного из тысячи я нашел, а женщину между всеми ими не нашел. | For which my soul is still searching, but I have it not; one man among a thousand have I seen; but a woman among all these I have not seen. |
| Только это я нашел, что Бог сотворил человека правым, а люди пустились во многие помыслы. | This only have I seen, that God made men upright, but they have been searching out all sorts of inventions. |
