| In quello stesso tempo vennero alcuni a riferirgli il fatto dei Galilei il cui sangue Pilato aveva mescolato coi loro sacrifici. | Now there were some present at that very season who told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. |
| E Gesù, rispondendo, disse loro: Pensate voi che quei Galilei fossero più peccatori di tutti i Galilei perché hanno sofferto tali cose? | And he answered and said unto them, Think ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they have suffered these things? |
| No, vi dico; ma se non vi ravvedete, tutti similmente perirete. | I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all in like manner perish. |
| O quei diciotto sui quali cadde la torre in Siloe e li uccise, pensate voi che fossero più colpevoli di tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme? | Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think ye that they were offenders above all the men that dwell in Jerusalem? |
| No, vi dico; ma se non vi ravvedete, tutti al par di loro perirete. | I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. |
| Disse pure questa parabola: Un tale aveva un fico piantato nella sua vigna; e andò a cercarvi del frutto, e non ne trovò. | And he spake this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none. |
| Disse dunque al vignaiuolo: Ecco, sono ormai tre anni che vengo a cercar frutto da questo fico, e non ne trovo; taglialo; perché sta lì a rendere improduttivo anche il terreno? | And he said unto the vinedresser, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why doth it also cumber the ground? |
| Ma l’altro, rispondendo, gli disse: Signore, lascialo ancora quest’anno, finch’io l’abbia scalzato e concimato; | And he answering saith unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: |
| e forse darà frutto in avvenire; se no, lo taglierai. | and if it bear fruit thenceforth, [well]; but if not, thou shalt cut it down. |
| Or egli stava insegnando in una delle sinagoghe in giorno di sabato. | And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath day. |
| Ed ecco una donna, che da diciotto anni aveva uno spirito d’infermità, ed era tutta curvata e incapace di raddrizzarsi in alcun modo. | And behold, a woman that had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years; and she was bowed together, and could in no wise lift herself up. |
| E Gesù, vedutala, la chiamò a sé e le disse: Donna, tu sei liberata dalla tua infermità. | And when Jesus saw her, he called her, and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. |
| E pose le mani su lei, ed ella in quell’istante fu raddrizzata e glorificava Iddio. | And he laid his hands upon her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. |
| Or il capo della sinagoga, sdegnato che Gesù avesse fatta una guarigione in giorno di sabato, prese a dire alla moltitudine: Ci son sei giorni ne’ quali s’ha da lavorare; venite dunque in quelli a farvi guarire, e non in giorno di sabato. | And the ruler of the synagogue, being moved with indignation because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, answered and said to the multitude, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the day of the sabbath. |
| Ma il Signore gli rispose e disse: Ipocriti, non scioglie ciascun di voi, di sabato, il suo bue o il suo asino dalla mangiatoia per menarlo a bere? | But the Lord answered him, and said, Ye hypocrites, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? |
| E costei, ch’è figliuola d’Abramo, e che Satana avea tenuta legata per ben diciott’anni, non doveva esser sciolta da questo legame in giorno di sabato? | And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound, lo, [these] eighteen years, to have been loosed from this bond on the day of the sabbath? |
| E mentre diceva queste cose, tutti i suoi avversari erano confusi, e tutta la moltitudine si rallegrava di tutte le opere gloriose da lui compiute. | And as he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame: and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him. |
| Diceva dunque: A che è simile il regno di Dio, e a che l’assomiglierò io? | He said therefore, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I liken it? |
| Esso è simile ad un granel di senapa che un uomo ha preso e gettato nel suo orto; ed è cresciuto ed è divenuto albero; e gli uccelli del cielo si son riparati sui suoi rami. | It is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his own garden; and it grew, and became a tree; and the birds of the heaven lodged in the branches thereof. |
| E di nuovo disse: A che assomiglierò il regno di Dio? | And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? |
| Esso è simile al lievito che una donna ha preso e nascosto in tre staia di farina, finché tutta sia lievitata. | It is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened. |
| Ed egli attraversava man mano le città ed i villaggi, insegnando, e facendo cammino verso Gerusalemme. | And he went on his way through cities and villages, teaching, and journeying on unto Jerusalem. |
| E un tale gli disse: Signore, son pochi i salvati? | And one said unto him, Lord, are they few that are saved? And he said unto them, |
| Ed egli disse loro: Sforzatevi d’entrare per la porta stretta, perché io vi dico che molti cercheranno d’entrare e non potranno. | Strive to enter in by the narrow door: for many, I say unto you, shall seek to enter in, and shall not be able. |
| Da che il padron di casa si sarà alzato ed avrà serrata la porta, e voi, stando di fuori, comincerete a picchiare alla porta, dicendo: Signore, aprici, egli, rispondendo, vi dirà: Io non so d’onde voi siate. | When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, open to us; and he shall answer and say to you, I know you not whence ye are; |
| Allora comincerete a dire: Noi abbiam mangiato e bevuto in tua presenza, e tu hai insegnato nelle nostre piazze! | then shall ye begin to say, We did eat and drink in thy presence, and thou didst teach in our streets; |
| Ed egli dirà: Io vi dico che non so d’onde voi siate; dipartitevi da me voi tutti operatori d’iniquità. | and he shall say, I tell you, I know not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. |
| Quivi sarà il pianto e lo stridor de’ denti, quando vedrete Abramo e Isacco e Giacobbe e tutti i profeti nel regno di Dio, e che voi ne sarete cacciati fuori. | There shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and yourselves cast forth without. |
| E ne verranno d’oriente e d’occidente, e da settentrione e da mezzogiorno, che si porranno a mensa nel regno di Dio. | And they shall come from the east and west, and from the north and south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. |
| Ed ecco, ve ne son degli ultimi che saranno primi, e de’ primi che saranno ultimi. | And behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last. |
| In quello stesso momento vennero alcuni Farisei a dirgli: Parti, e vattene di qui, perché Erode ti vuol far morire. | In that very hour there came certain Pharisees, saying to him, Get thee out, and go hence: for Herod would fain kill thee. |
| Ed egli disse loro: Andate a dire a quella volpe: Ecco, io caccio i demoni e compio guarigioni oggi e domani, e il terzo giorno giungo al mio termine. | And he said unto them, Go and say to that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third [day] I am perfected. |
| D’altronde, bisogna ch’io cammini oggi e domani e posdomani, perché non può essere che un profeta muoia fuori di Gerusalemme. | Nevertheless I must go on my way to-day and to-morrow and the [day] following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. |
| Gerusalemme, Gerusalemme, che uccidi i profeti e lapidi quelli che ti son mandati, quante volte ho voluto raccogliere i tuoi figliuoli, come la gallina raccoglie i suoi pulcini sotto le ali; e voi non avete voluto! | O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen [gathereth] her own brood under her wings, and ye would not! |
| Ecco, la vostra casa sta per esservi lasciata deserta. E io vi dico che non mi vedrete più, finché venga il giorno che diciate: Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore! | Behold, your house is left unto you [desolate]: and I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. |
