| The sin of Judah is recorded with a pen of iron, and with the sharp point of a jewel it is cut on their hearts of stone, and on the horns of their altars for a sign to them: | Le péché de Juda est écrit avec un burin de fer, Avec une pointe de diamant; Il est gravé sur la table de leur coeur, Et sur les cornes de vos autels. |
| Their altars and their wood pillars under every branching tree, on the high hills and the mountains in the field. | Comme ils pensent à leurs enfants, ainsi pensent-ils à leurs autels Et à leurs idoles d`Astarté près des arbres verts, Sur les collines élevées. |
| I will give your wealth and all your stores to be taken away in war without a price, because of your sins in every part of your land. | Je livre au pillage ma montagne et ses champs, tes biens, tous tes trésors, Et tes hauts lieux, à cause de tes péchés, sur tout ton territoire. |
| And your hand will have to let go your heritage which I gave you; and I will make you a servant to your haters in a land which is strange to you: for you have put my wrath on fire with a flame which will go on burning for ever. | Tu perdras par ta faute l`héritage que je t`avais donné; Je t`asservirai à ton ennemi dans un pays que tu ne connais pas; Car vous avez allumé le feu de ma colère, Et il brûlera toujours. |
| This is what the Lord has said: Cursed is the man who puts his faith in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart is turned away from the Lord. | Ainsi parle l`Éternel: Maudit soit l`homme qui se confie dans l`homme, Qui prend la chair pour son appui, Et qui détourne son coeur de l`Éternel! |
| For he will be like the brushwood in the upland, and will not see when good comes; but his living-place will be in the dry places in the waste land, in a salt and unpeopled land. | Il est comme un misérable dans le désert, Et il ne voit point arriver le bonheur; Il habite les lieux brûlés du désert, Une terre salée et sans habitants. |
| A blessing is on the man who puts his faith in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. | Béni soit l`homme qui se confie dans l`Éternel, Et dont l`Éternel est l`espérance! |
| For he will be like a tree planted by the waters, pushing out its roots by the stream; he will have no fear when the heat comes, but his leaf will be green; in a dry year he will have no care, and will go on giving fruit. | Il est comme un arbre planté près des eaux, Et qui étend ses racines vers le courant; Il n`aperçoit point la chaleur quand elle vient, Et son feuillage reste vert; Dans l`année de la sécheresse, il n`a point de crainte, Et il ne cesse de porter du fruit. |
| The heart is a twisted thing, not to be searched out by man: who is able to have knowledge of it? | Le coeur est tortueux par-dessus tout, et il est méchant: Qui peut le connaître? |
| I the Lord am the searcher of the heart, the tester of the thoughts, so that I may give to every man the reward of his ways, in keeping with the fruit of his doings. | Moi, l`Éternel, j`éprouve le coeur, je sonde les reins, Pour rendre à chacun selon ses voies, Selon le fruit de ses oeuvres. |
| Like the partridge, getting eggs together but not producing young, is a man who gets wealth but not by right; before half his days are ended, it will go from him, and at his end he will be foolish. | Comme une perdrix qui couve des oeufs qu`elle n`a point pondus, Tel est celui qui acquiert des richesses injustement; Au milieu de ses jours il doit les quitter, Et à la fin il n`est qu`un insensé. |
| A seat of glory, placed on high from the first, is our holy place. | Il est un trône de gloire, élevé dès le commencement, C`est le lieu de notre sanctuaire. |
| O Lord, the hope of Israel, all who give you up will be put to shame; those who go away from you will be cut off from the earth, because they have given up the Lord, the fountain of living waters. | Toi qui es l`espérance d`Israël, ô Éternel! Tous ceux qui t`abandonnent seront confondus. -Ceux qui se détournent de moi seront inscrits sur la terre, Car ils abandonnent la source d`eau vive, l`Éternel. |
| Make me well, O Lord, and I will be well; be my saviour, and I will be safe: for you are my hope. | Guéris-moi, Éternel, et je serai guéri; Sauve-moi, et je serai sauvé; Car tu es ma gloire. |
| See, they say to me, Where is the word of the Lord? let it come now. | Voici, ils me disent: Où est la parole de l`Éternel? Qu`elle s`accomplisse donc! |
| As for me, I have not said; Let the day of trouble come to them quickly; and I have not been hoping for the death-giving day; you have knowledge of what came from my lips; it was open before you. | Et moi, pour t`obéir, je n`ai pas refusé d`être pasteur; Je n`ai pas non plus désiré le jour du malheur, tu le sais; Ce qui est sorti de mes lèvres a été découvert devant toi. |
| Be not a cause of fear to me: you are my safe place in the day of evil. | Ne sois pas pour moi un sujet d`effroi, Toi, mon refuge au jour du malheur! |
| Let them be put to shame who are attacking me, but let me not be shamed; let them be overcome with fear, but let me not be overcome: send on them the day of evil, and put them to destruction twice over. | Que mes persécuteurs soient confus, et que je ne sois pas confus; Qu`ils tremblent, et que je ne tremble pas, moi! Fais venir sur eux le jour du malheur, Frappe-les d`une double plaie! |
| This is what the Lord has said to me: Go and take your place in the doorway of Benjamin, where the kings of Judah come in and by which they go out, and in all the doorways of Jerusalem; | Ainsi m`a parlé l`Éternel: Va, et tiens-toi à la porte des enfants du peuple, par laquelle entrent et sortent les rois de Juda, et à toutes les portes de Jérusalem. |
| And say to them, Give ear to the word of the Lord, you kings of Judah, and all the people of Jerusalem who come in by these doors: | Tu leur diras: Écoutez la parole de l`Éternel, rois de Juda, et tout Juda, et vous tous, habitants de Jérusalem, qui entrez par ces portes! |
| This is what the Lord has said: See to yourselves, that you take up no weight on the Sabbath day, or take it in through the doors of Jerusalem; | Ainsi parle l`Éternel: Prenez garde à vos âmes; Ne portez point de fardeau le jour du sabbat, Et n`en introduisez point par les portes de Jérusalem. |
| And take no weight out of your houses on the Sabbath day, or do any work, but keep the Sabbath day holy, as I gave orders to your fathers; | Ne sortez de vos maisons aucun fardeau le jour du sabbat, Et ne faites aucun ouvrage; Mais sanctifiez le jour du sabbat, Comme je l`ai ordonné à vos pères. |
| But they gave no attention and would not give ear, but they made their necks stiff so that they might not give ear and might not get teaching. | Ils n`ont pas écouté, ils n`ont pas prêté l`oreille; Ils ont raidi leur cou, Pour ne point écouter et ne point recevoir instruction. |
| And it will be, that if with all care you give ear to me, says the Lord, and take no weight through the doorways of this town on the Sabbath day, but keep the Sabbath day holy and do no work in it; | Si vous m`écoutez, dit l`Éternel, Si vous n`introduisez point de fardeau Par les portes de cette ville le jour du sabbat, Si vous sanctifiez le jour du sabbat, Et ne faites aucun ouvrage ce jour-là, |
| Then through the doors of this town there will come kings and princes, seated on the seat of David, going in carriages and on horseback, they and their princes, and the men of Judah and the people of Jerusalem: and this town will keep its place for ever. | Alors entreront par les portes de cette ville Les rois et les princes assis sur le trône de David, Montés sur des chars et sur des chevaux, Eux et leurs princes, les hommes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem, Et cette ville sera habitée à toujours. |
| And they will come from the towns of Judah, and from the places round about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the lowlands, and from the mountains, and from the South, with burned offerings and offerings of beasts and meal offerings and perfume and offerings of praise, to the house of the Lord. | On viendra des villes de Juda et des environs de Jérusalem, Du pays de Benjamin, de la vallée, De la montagne et du midi, Pour amener des holocaustes et des victimes, Pour apporter des offrandes et de l`encens, Et pour offrir des sacrifices d`actions de grâces dans la maison de l`Éternel. |
| But if you do not give ear to me, to keep the Sabbath day holy, and to let no weight be lifted and taken through the doors of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day: then I will put a fire in its doorways, burning up the great houses of Jerusalem, and it will never be put out. | Mais si vous n`écoutez pas quand je vous ordonne De sanctifier le jour du sabbat, De ne porter aucun fardeau, De ne point en introduire par les portes de Jérusalem le jour du sabbat, Alors j`allumerai un feu aux portes de la ville, Et il dévorera les palais de Jérusalem et ne s`éteindra point. |
