| Услышав сие, все цари, которые за Иорданом, на горе и на равнине и по всему берегу великого моря, близ Ливана, Хеттеи, Аморреи, Хананеи, Ферезеи, Евеи и Иевусеи, | Now on hearing the news of these things, all the kings on the west side of Jordan, in the hill-country and the lowlands and by the Great Sea in front of Lebanon, the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, |
| собрались вместе, дабы единодушно сразиться с Иисусом и Израилем. | Came together with one purpose, to make war against Joshua and Israel. |
| Но жители Гаваона, услышав, что Иисус сделал с Иерихоном и Гаем, | And the men of Gibeon, hearing what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai, |
| употребили хитрость: пошли, запаслись хлебом на дорогу и положили ветхие мешки на ослов своих и ветхие, изорванные и заплатанные мехи вина; | Acting with deceit, got food together as if for a long journey; and took old food-bags for their asses, and old and cracked wine-skins kept together with cord; |
| и обувь на ногах их была ветхая с заплатами, и одежда на них ветхая; и весь дорожный хлеб их был сухой и заплесневелый. | And put old stitched-up shoes on their feet, and old clothing on their backs; and all the food they had with them was dry and broken up. |
| Они пришли к Иисусу в стан [Израильский] в Галгал и сказали ему и всем Израильтянам: из весьма дальней земли пришли мы; итак заключите с нами союз. | And they came to Joshua to the tent-circle at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel, We have come from a far country: so now make an agreement with us. |
| Израильтяне же сказали Евеям: может быть, вы живете близ нас? как нам заключить с вами союз? | And the men of Israel said to the Hivites, It may be that you are living among us; how then may we make an agreement with you? |
| Они сказали Иисусу: мы рабы твои. Иисус же сказал им: кто вы и откуда пришли? | And they said to Joshua, We are your servants. Then Joshua said to them, Who are you and where do you come from? |
| Они сказали ему: из весьма дальней земли пришли рабы твои во имя Господа Бога твоего; ибо мы слышали славу Его и все, что сделал Он в Египте, | And they said to him, Your servants have come from a very far country, because of the name of the Lord your God: for the story of his great name, and of all he did in Egypt has come to our ears, |
| и все, что Он сделал двум царям Аморрейским, которые по ту сторону Иордана, Сигону, царю Есевонскому, и Огу, царю Васанскому, который [жил] в Астарофе. | And what he did to the two kings of the Amorites east of Jordan, to Sihon, king of Heshbon, and to Og, king of Bashan, at Ashtaroth. |
| [Слыша сие], старейшины наши и все жители нашей земли сказали нам: возьмите в руки ваши хлеба на дорогу и пойдите навстречу им и скажите им: `мы рабы ваши; итак заключите с нами союз`. | So the responsible men and all the people of our country said to us, Take food with you for the journey and go to them, and say to them, We are your servants: so now make an agreement with us. |
| Этот хлеб наш из домов наших мы взяли теплый в тот день, когда пошли к вам, а теперь вот, он сделался сухой и заплесневелый; | This bread which we have with us for our food, we took warm and new from our houses when starting on our journey to you; but now see, it has become dry and broken up. |
| и эти мехи с вином, которые мы налили новые, вот, изорвались; и эта одежда наша и обувь наша обветшала от весьма дальней дороги. | And these wine-skins were new when we put the wine in them, and now they are cracked as you see; and our clothing and our shoes have become old because of our very long journey here. |
| Израильтяне взяли их хлеба, а Господа не вопросили. | And the men took some of their food, without requesting directions from the Lord. |
| И заключил Иисус с ними мир и постановил с ними условие в том, что он сохранит им жизнь; и поклялись им начальники общества. | So Joshua made peace with them, and made an agreement with them that they were not to be put to death: and the chiefs of the people took an oath to them. |
| А чрез три дня, как заключили они с ними союз, услышали, что они соседи их и живут близ них; | Now three days after, when they had made this agreement with them, they had word that these men were their neighbours, living near them. |
| ибо сыны Израилевы, отправившись в путь, пришли в города их на третий день; города же их [были]: Гаваон, Кефира, Беероф и Кириаф-Иарим. | And the children of Israel went forward on their journey, and on the third day came to their towns. Now their towns were Gibeon and Chephirah and Beeroth and Kiriath-jearim. |
| сыны Израилевы не побили их, потому что начальники общества клялись им Господом Богом Израилевым. За это все общество [Израилево] возроптало на начальников. | And the children of Israel did not put them to death, because the chiefs of the people had taken an oath to them by the Lord, the God of Israel. And all the people made an outcry against the chiefs. |
| Все начальники сказали всему обществу: мы клялись им Господом Богом Израилевым и потому не можем коснуться их; | But all the chiefs said to the people, We have taken an oath to them by the Lord, the God of Israel, and so we may not put our hands on them. |
| а вот что сделаем с ними: оставим их в живых, чтобы не постиг нас гнев за клятву, которою мы клялись им. | This is what we will do to them: we will not put them to death, for fear that wrath may come on us because of our oath to them. |
| И сказали им начальники: пусть они живут, но будут рубить дрова и черпать воду для всего общества. [И сделало все общество] так, как сказали им начальники. | Keep them living, and let them be servants, cutting wood and getting water for all the people. And all the people did as the chiefs had said to them. |
| Иисус призвал их и сказал: для чего вы обманули нас, сказав: `мы весьма далеко от вас`, тогда как вы живете близ нас? | Then Joshua sent for them, and said to them, Why have you been false to us, saying, We are very far from you, when you are living among us? |
| за это прокляты вы! без конца вы будете рабами, будете рубить дрова и черпать воду для дома Бога моего! | Now because of this you are cursed, and you will for ever be our servants, cutting wood and getting water for the house of my God. |
| Они в ответ Иисусу сказали: дошло до сведения рабов твоих, что Господь Бог твой повелел Моисею, рабу Своему, дать вам всю землю и погубить всех жителей сей земли пред лицем вашим; посему мы весьма боялись, чтобы вы не лишили нас жизни, и сделали это дело; | And, answering Joshua, they said, Because it came to the ears of your servants that the Lord your God had given orders to his servant Moses to give you all this land, and to send destruction on all the people living in it, because of you; so, fearing greatly for our lives because of you, we have done this. |
| теперь вот мы в руке твоей: как лучше и справедливее тебе покажется поступить с нами, так и поступи. | And now we are in your hands: do to us whatever seems good and right to you. |
| И поступил с ними так: избавил их от руки сынов Израилевых, и они не умертвили их; | So he kept them safe from the children of Israel, and did not let them be put to death. |
| и определил в тот день Иисус, чтобы они рубили дрова и черпали воду для общества и для жертвенника Господня; --посему жители Гаваона сделались дровосеками и водоносами для жертвенника Божия, --даже до сего дня, на месте, какое ни избрал бы [Господь]. | And that day Joshua made them servants, cutting wood and getting water for the people and for the altar of the Lord, in the place marked out by him, to this day. |
