| Ó Deus, nós ouvimos com os nossos ouvidos, nossos pais nos têm contado os feitos que realizaste em seus dias, nos tempos da antigüidade. | To the chief music-maker. Of the sons of Korah Maschil.It has come to our ears, O God, our fathers have given us the story, of the works which you did in their days, in the old times, |
| Tu expeliste as nações com a tua mão, mas a eles plantaste; afligiste os povos, mas a eles estendes-te largamente. | Uprooting the nations with your hand, and planting our fathers in their place; cutting down the nations, but increasing the growth of your people. |
| Pois não foi pela sua espada que conquistaram a terra, nem foi o seu braço que os salvou, mas a tua destra e o teu braço, e a luz do teu rosto, porquanto te agradaste deles. | For they did not make the land theirs by their swords, and it was not their arms which kept them safe; but your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your face, because you had pleasure in them. |
| Tu és o meu Rei, ó Deus; ordena livramento para Jacó. | You are my King and my God; ordering salvation for Jacob. |
| Por ti derrubamos os nossos adversários; pelo teu nome pisamos os que se levantam contra nós. | Through you will we overcome our haters; by your name will they be crushed under our feet who are violent against us. |
| Pois não confio no meu arco, nem a minha espada me pode salvar. | I will not put faith in my bow, my sword will not be my salvation. |
| Mas tu nos salvaste dos nossos adversários, e confundiste os que nos odeiam. | But it is you who have been our saviour from those who were against us, and have put to shame those who had hate for us. |
| Em Deus é que nos temos gloriado o dia todo, e sempre louvaremos o teu nome. | Our pride is in God at all times, to his name we give praise for ever. (Selah.) |
| Mas agora nos rejeitaste e nos humilhaste, e não sais com os nossos exércitos. | But now you have sent us away from you, and put us to shame; you do not go out with our armies. |
| Fizeste-nos voltar as costas ao inimigo e aqueles que nos odeiam nos despojam à vontade. | Because of this we are turned back by the attacker: those who have hate for us take our goods for themselves. |
| Entregaste-nos como ovelhas para alimento, e nos espalhaste entre as nações. | You have made us like sheep which are taken for meat; we are put to flight among the nations. |
| Vendeste por nada o teu povo, e não lucraste com o seu preço. | You let your people go for nothing; your wealth is not increased by their price. |
| Puseste-nos por opróbrio aos nossos vizinhos, por escárnio e zombaria àqueles que estão à roda de nós. | You have made us to be looked down on by our neighbours, we are laughed at and shamed by those who are round about us. |
| Puseste-nos por provérbio entre as nações, por ludíbrio entre os povos. | Our name is a word of shame among the nations, a sign for the shaking of heads among the peoples. |
| A minha ignomínia está sempre diante de mim, e a vergonha do meu rosto me cobre, | My downfall is ever before me, and I am covered with the shame of my face; |
| à voz daquele que afronta e blasfema, à vista do inimigo e do vingador. | Because of the voice of him who says sharp and bitter words; because of the hater and him who is the instrument of punishment. |
| Tudo isto nos sobreveio; todavia não nos esquecemos de ti, nem nos houvemos falsamente contra o teu pacto. | All this has come on us, but still we have kept you in our memory; and we have not been false to your word. |
| O nosso coração não voltou atrás, nem os nossos passos se desviaram das tuas veredas, | Our hearts have not gone back, and our steps have not been turned out of your way; |
| para nos teres esmagado onde habitam os chacais, e nos teres coberto de trevas profundas. | Though you have let us be crushed in the place of jackals, though we are covered with darkest shade. |
| Se nos tivéssemos esquecido do nome do nosso Deus, e estendido as nossas mãos para um deus estranho, | If the name of our God has gone out of our minds, or if our hands have been stretched out to a strange god, |
| porventura Deus não haveria de esquadrinhar isso? pois ele conhece os segredos do coração. | Will not God make search for it? for he sees the secrets of the heart. |
| Mas por amor de ti somos entregues à morte o dia todo; somos considerados como ovelhas para o matadouro. | Truly, because of you we are put to death every day; we are numbered like sheep for destruction. |
| Desperta! por que dormes, Senhor? Acorda! não nos rejeites para sempre. | Why are you sleeping, O Lord? awake! and come to our help, do not give us up for ever. |
| Por que escondes o teu rosto, e te esqueces da nossa tribulação e da nossa angústia? | Why is your face covered, and why do you give no thought to our trouble and our cruel fate? |
| Pois a nossa alma está abatida até o pó; o nosso corpo pegado ao chão. | For our souls are crushed down to the dust: our bodies are stretched out on the earth. |
| Levanta-te em nosso auxílio, e resgata-nos por tua benignidade. | Up! and come to our help, and give us salvation because of your mercy. |
