Proverbs 22
|
| La buona riputazione è da preferirsi alle molte ricchezze; e la stima, all’argento e all’oro. | A good name is more to be desired than great wealth, and to be respected is better than silver and gold. |
| Il ricco e il povero s’incontrano; l’Eterno li ha fatti tutti e due. | The man of wealth and the poor man come face to face: the Lord is the maker of them all. |
| L’uomo accorto vede venire il male, e si nasconde; ma i semplici tirano innanzi, e ne portan la pena. | The sharp man sees the evil and takes cover: the simple go straight on and get into trouble. |
| Il frutto dell’umiltà e del timor dell’Eterno è ricchezza e gloria e vita. | The reward of a gentle spirit and the fear of the Lord is wealth and honour and life. |
| Spine e lacci sono sulla via del perverso; chi ha cura dell’anima sua se ne tien lontano. | Thorns and nets are in the way of the twisted: he who keeps watch over his soul will be far from them. |
| Inculca al fanciullo la condotta che deve tenere; anche quando sarà vecchio non se e dipartirà. | If a child is trained up in the right way, even when he is old he will not be turned away from it. |
| Il ricco signoreggia sui poveri, e chi prende in prestito è schiavo di chi presta. | The man of wealth has rule over the poor, and he who gets into debt is a servant to his creditor. |
| Chi semina iniquità miete sciagura, e la verga della sua collera è infranta. | By planting the seed of evil a man will get in the grain of sorrow, and the rod of his wrath will be broken. |
| L’uomo dallo sguardo benevolo sarà benedetto, perché dà del suo pane al povero. | He who is kind will have a blessing, for he gives of his bread to the poor. |
| Caccia via il beffardo, se n’andranno le contese, e cesseran le liti e gli oltraggi. | Send away the man of pride, and argument will go out; truly fighting and shame will come to an end. |
| Chi ama la purità del cuore e ha la grazia sulle labbra, ha il re per amico. | He whose heart is clean is dear to the Lord; for the grace of his lips the king will be his friend. |
| Gli occhi dell’Eterno proteggono la scienza, ma egli rende vane le parole del perfido. | The eyes of the Lord keep knowledge, but by him the acts of the false man will be overturned. |
| Il pigro dice: "Là fuori c’è un leone; sarò ucciso per la strada". | The hater of work says, There is a lion outside: I will be put to death in the streets. |
| La bocca delle donne corrotte è una fossa profonda; colui ch’è in ira all’Eterno, vi cadrà dentro. | The mouth of strange women is a deep hole: he with whom the Lord is angry will go down into it. |
| La follia è legata al cuore del fanciullo, ma la verga della correzione l’allontanerà da lui. | Foolish ways are deep-seated in the heart of a child, but the rod of punishment will send them far from him. |
| Chi opprime il povero, l’arricchisce; chi dona al ricco, non fa che impoverirlo. | He who is cruel to the poor for the purpose of increasing his profit, and he who gives to the man of wealth, will only come to be in need. |
| Porgi l’orecchio e ascolta le parole dei Savi ed applica il cuore alla mia scienza. | Let your ear be bent down for hearing my words, and let your heart give thought to knowledge. |
| Ti sarà dolce custodirle in petto, e averle tutte pronte sulle tue labbra. | For it is a delight to keep them in your heart, to have them ready on your lips. |
| Ho voluto istruirti oggi, sì, proprio te, perché la tua fiducia sia posta nell’Eterno. | So that your faith may be in the Lord, I have made them clear to you this day, even to you. |
| Non ho io già da tempo scritto per te consigli e insegnamenti | Have I not put in writing for you thirty sayings, with wise suggestions and knowledge, |
| per farti conoscere cose certe, parole vere, onde tu possa risponder parole vere a chi t’interroga? | To make you see how certain are true words, so that you may give a true answer to those who put questions to you? |
| Non derubare il povero perch’è povero, e non opprimere il misero alla porta; | Do not take away the property of the poor man because he is poor, or be cruel to the crushed ones when they come before the judge: |
| ché l’Eterno difenderà la loro causa, e spoglierà della vita chi avrà spogliato loro. | For the Lord will give support to their cause, and take the life of those who take their goods. |
| Non fare amicizia con l’uomo iracondo e non andare con l’uomo violento, | Do not be friends with a man who is given to wrath; do not go in the company of an angry man: |
| che tu non abbia ad imparare le sue vie e ad esporre a un’insidia l’anima tua. | For fear of learning his ways and making a net ready for your soul. |
| Non esser di quelli che dan la mano, che fanno sicurtà per debiti. | Be not one of those who give their hands in an agreement, or of those who make themselves responsible for debts: |
| Se non hai di che pagare, perché esporti a farti portar via il letto? | If you have nothing with which to make payment, he will take away your bed from under you. |
| Non spostare il termine antico, che fu messo dai tuoi padri. | Let not the old landmark be moved which your fathers have put in place. |
| Hai tu veduto un uomo spedito nelle sue faccende? Egli starà al servizio dei re; non starà al servizio della gente oscura. | Have you seen a man who is expert in his business? he will take his place before kings; his place will not be among low persons. |
