| La bilancia falsa è un abominio per l’Eterno, ma il peso giusto gli è grato. | Scales of deceit are hated by the Lord, but a true weight is his delight. |
| Venuta la superbia, viene anche l’ignominia; ma la sapienza è con gli umili. | When pride comes, there comes shame, but wisdom is with the quiet in spirit. |
| L’integrità degli uomini retti li guida, ma la perversità dei perfidi è la loro rovina. | The righteousness of the upright will be their guide, but the twisted ways of the false will be their destruction. |
| Le ricchezze non servono a nulla nel giorno dell’ira, ma la giustizia salva da morte. | Wealth is of no profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness keeps a man safe from death. |
| La giustizia dell’uomo integro gli appiana la via, ma l’empio cade per la sua empietà. | The righteousness of the good man will make his way straight, but the sin of the evil-doer will be the cause of his fall. |
| La giustizia degli uomini retti li libera, ma i perfidi restan presi nella loro propria malizia. | The righteousness of the upright will be their salvation, but the false will themselves be taken in their evil designs. |
| Quando un empio muore, la sua speranza perisce, e l’aspettazione degl’iniqui e annientata. | At the death of an upright man his hope does not come to an end, but the hope of the evil-doer comes to destruction. |
| Il giusto è tratto fuor dalla distretta, e l’empio ne prende il posto. | The upright man is taken out of trouble, and in his place comes the sinner. |
| Con la sua bocca l’ipocrita rovina il suo prossimo, ma i giusti sono liberati dalla loro perspicacia. | With his mouth the evil man sends destruction on his neighbour; but through knowledge the upright are taken out of trouble. |
| Quando i giusti prosperano, la città gioisce; ma quando periscono gli empi son gridi di giubilo. | When things go well for the upright man, all the town is glad; at the death of sinners, there are cries of joy. |
| Per la benedizione degli uomini retti la città è esaltata, ma è sovvertita dalla bocca degli empi. | By the blessing of the upright man the town is made great, but it is overturned by the mouth of the evil-doer. |
| Chi sprezza il prossimo è privo di senno, ma l’uomo accorto tace. | He who has a poor opinion of his neighbour has no sense, but a wise man keeps quiet. |
| Chi va sparlando svela i segreti, ma chi ha lo spirito leale tien celata la cosa. | He who goes about talking of others makes secrets public, but the true-hearted man keeps things covered. |
| Quando manca una savia direzione il popolo cade; nel gran numero de’ consiglieri sta la salvezza. | When there is no helping suggestion the people will have a fall, but with a number of wise guides they will be safe. |
| Chi si fa mallevadore d’un altro ne soffre danno, ma chi odia la mallevadoria è sicuro. | He who makes himself responsible for a strange man will undergo much loss; but the hater of such undertakings will be safe. |
| La donna graziosa ottiene la gloria, e gli uomini forti ottengon la ricchezza. | A woman who is full of grace is honoured, but a woman hating righteousness is a seat of shame: those hating work will undergo loss, but the strong keep their wealth. |
| L’uomo benigno fa del bene a se stesso, ma il crudele tortura la sua propria carne. | The man who has mercy will be rewarded, but the cruel man is the cause of trouble to himself. |
| L’empio fa un’opera fallace, ma chi semina giustizia ha una ricompensa sicura. | The sinner gets the payment of deceit; but his reward is certain who puts in the seed of righteousness. |
| Così la giustizia mena alla vita, ma chi va dietro al male s’incammina alla morte. | So righteousness gives life; but he who goes after evil gets death for himself. |
| I perversi di cuore sono un abominio per l’Eterno, ma gl’integri nella loro condotta gli sono graditi. | The uncontrolled are hated by the Lord, but those whose ways are without error are his delight |
| No, certo, il malvagio non rimarrà impunito, ma la progenie dei giusti scamperà. | Certainly the evil-doer will not go free from punishment, but the seed of the upright man will be safe. |
| Una donna bella, ma senza giudizio, è un anello d’oro nel grifo d’un porco. | Like a ring of gold in the nose of a pig, is a beautiful woman who has no sense. |
| Il desiderio dei giusti è il bene soltanto, ma la prospettiva degli empi e l’ira. | The desire of the upright man is only for good, but wrath is waiting for the evil-doer. |
| C’è chi spande liberalmente e diventa più ricco, e c’è chi risparmia più del dovere e non fa che impoverire. | A man may give freely, and still his wealth will be increased; and another may keep back more than is right, but only comes to be in need. |
| L’anima benefica sarà nell’abbondanza, e chi annaffia sarà egli pure annaffiato. | He who gives blessing will be made fat, but the curser will himself be cursed. |
| Chi detiene il grano è maledetto dal popolo, ma la benedizione è sul capo di chi lo vende. | He who keeps back grain will be cursed by the people; but a blessing will be on the head of him who lets them have it for a price. |
| Chi procaccia il bene s’attira benevolenza, ma chi cerca il male, male gl’incoglierà. | He who, with all his heart, goes after what is good is searching for grace; but he who is looking for trouble will get it. |
| Chi confida nelle sue ricchezze cadrà, ma i giusti rinverdiranno a guisa di fronde. | He who puts his faith in wealth will come to nothing; but the upright man will be full of growth like the green leaf. |
| Chi getta lo scompiglio in casa sua erediterà vento, e lo stolto sarà lo schiavo di chi ha il cuor savio. | The troubler of his house will have the wind for his heritage, and the foolish will be servant to the wise-hearted. |
| Il frutto del giusto è un albero di vita, e il savio fa conquista d’anime. | The fruit of righteousness is a tree of life, but violent behaviour takes away souls. |
| Ecco, il giusto riceve la sua retribuzione sulla terra, quanto più l’empio e il peccatore! | If the upright man is rewarded on earth, how much more the evil-doer and the sinner! |
