| In quel giorno, si canterà questo cantico nel paese di Giuda: Noi abbiamo una città forte; l’Eterno vi pone la salvezza per mura e per bastioni. | In that day will this song be made in the land of Judah: We have a strong town; he will make salvation our walls and towers. |
| Aprite le porte ed entri la nazione giusta, che si mantiene fedele. | Let the doors be open, so that the upright nation which keeps faith may come in. |

| La via del giusto è diritta; Tu rendi perfettamente piano il sentiero del giusto. | The way of the good man is straight; the road of the upright is made smooth by you. |
| Sulla via dei tuoi giudizi, o Eterno, noi t’abbiamo aspettato! Al tuo nome, al tuo ricordo anela l’anima nostra. | We have been waiting for you, O Lord; the desire of our soul is for the memory of your name. |
| Con l’anima mia ti desidero, durante al notte; con lo spirito ch’è dentro di me, ti cerco; poiché, quando i tuoi giudizi si compion sulla terra, gli abitanti del mondo imparan la giustizia. | In the night the desire of my soul has been for you; early will my spirit be searching for you; for when your punishments come on the earth, the people of the world will get the knowledge of righteousness. |
| Se si fa grazia all’empio, ei non impara la giustizia; agisce da perverso nel paese della rettitudine, e non considera la maestà dell’Eterno. | Even if you are kind to the evil-doer, he will not go after righteousness; even in the land of the upright he will still go on in his wrongdoing, and will not see the glory of the Lord. |
| O Eterno, la tua mano è levata, ma quelli non la scorgono! Essi vedranno lo zelo che hai per il tuo popolo, e saranno confusi; il fuoco divorerà i tuoi nemici. | Lord, your hand is lifted up, but they do not see: let them see ... yes, your haters will be burned up in the fire. |
| O Eterno, tu ci darai la pace; poiché ogni opera nostra sei tu che la compi per noi. | Lord, you will give us peace: for all our works are the outcome of your purpose. |
| O Eterno, Dio nostro, altri signori, fuori di te, han dominato su noi; ma, grazie a te solo, noi possiamo celebrare il tuo nome. | O Lord, our God, other lords than you have had rule over us; but in you only is our salvation, and no other name will we take on our lips. |
| Quelli son morti, e non rivivranno più; son ombre, e non risorgeranno più; tu li hai così puniti, li hai distrutti, ne hai fatto perire ogni ricordo. | The dead will not come back to life: their spirits will not come back to earth; for this cause you have sent destruction on them, so that the memory of them is dead. |
| Tu hai aumentata la nazione, o Eterno! hai aumentata la nazione, ti sei glorificato, hai allargato tutti i confini del paese. | You have made the nation great, O Lord, you have made it great; glory is yours: you have made wide the limits of the land. |
| O Eterno, essi, nella distretta ti hanno cercato, si sono effusi in umile preghiera, quando il tuo castigo li colpiva. | Lord, in trouble our eyes have been turned to you, we sent up a prayer when your punishment was on us. |
| Come una donna incinta che sta per partorire si contorce e grida in mezzo alle sue doglie, così siamo stati noi dinanzi a te, o Eterno. | As a woman with child, whose time is near, is troubled, crying out in her pain; so have we been before you, O Lord. |
| Abbiamo concepito, siamo stati in doglie, e, quando abbiamo partorito, era vento; non abbiamo recata alcuna salvezza al paese, e non son nati degli abitanti nel mondo. | We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have given birth to wind; no salvation has come to the earth through us, and no children have come into the world. |
| Rivivano i tuoi morti! risorgano i miei cadaveri! Svegliatevi e giubilate, o voi che abitate nella polvere! Poiché la tua rugiada è come la rugiada dell’aurora, e la terrà ridarà alla vita le ombre. | Your dead will come back; their dead bodies will come to life again. Those in the dust, awaking from their sleep, will send out a song; for your dew is a dew of light, and the earth will give birth to the shades. |
| Va’, o mio popolo, entra nelle tue camere, chiudi le tue porte dietro a te; nasconditi per un istante, finché sia passata l’indignazione. | Come, my people, into your secret places, and let your doors be shut: keep yourself safe for a short time, till his wrath is over. |
| Poiché, ecco l’Eterno esce dalla sua dimora per punire l’iniquità degli abitanti della terra; e la terra metterà allo scoperto il sangue che ha bevuto, e non terrà più coperti gli uccisi. | For the Lord is coming out of his place to send punishment on the people of the earth for their evil-doing: the earth will let the blood drained out on her be seen, and will keep her dead covered no longer. |
