| L’Eterno continuò a rispondere a Giobbe e disse: | Will he who is protesting give teaching to the Ruler of all? Let him who has arguments to put forward against God give an answer. |
| "Il censore dell’Onnipotente vuole ancora contendere con lui? Colui che censura Iddio ha egli una risposta a tutto questo?" | And Job said in answer to the Lord, |
| Allora Giobbe rispose all’Eterno e disse: | Truly, I am of no value; what answer may I give to you? I will put my hand on my mouth. |
| "Ecco, io son troppo meschino; che ti risponderei? Io mi metto la mano sulla bocca. | I have said once, and even twice, what was in my mind, but I will not do so again. |
| Ho parlato una volta, ma non riprenderò la parola, due volte… ma non lo farò più". | Then the Lord made answer to Job out of the storm-wind, and said, |
| L’Eterno allora rispose a Giobbe dal seno della tempesta, e disse: | Get your strength together like a man of war: I will put questions to you, and you will give me the answers. |
| "Orsù, cingiti i lombi come un prode; ti farò delle domande e tu insegnami! | Will you even make my right of no value? will you say that I am wrong in order to make clear that you are right? |
| Vuoi tu proprio annullare il mio giudizio? condannar me per giustificar te stesso? | Have you an arm like God? have you a voice of thunder like his? |
| Hai tu un braccio pari a quello di Dio? o una voce che tuoni come la sua? | Put on the ornaments of your pride; be clothed with glory and power: |
| Su via, adornati di maestà, di grandezza, rivestiti di splendore, di magnificenza! | Let your wrath be overflowing; let your eyes see all the sons of pride, and make them low. |
| Da’ libero corso ai furori dell’ira tua; mira tutti i superbi e abbassali! | Send destruction on all who are lifted up, pulling down the sinners from their places. |
| Mira tutti i superbi e umiliali! e schiaccia gli empi dovunque stanno! | Let them be covered together in the dust; let their faces be dark in the secret place of the underworld. |
| Seppelliscili tutti assieme nella polvere, copri di bende la lor faccia nel buio della tomba! | Then I will give praise to you, saying that your right hand is able to give you salvation. |
| Allora, anch’io ti loderò, perché la tua destra t’avrà dato la vittoria. | See now the Great Beast, whom I made, even as I made you; he takes grass for food, like the ox. |
| Guarda l’ippopotamo che ho fatto al par di te; esso mangia l’erba come il bove. | His strength is in his body, and his force in the muscles of his stomach. |
| Ecco la sua forza è nei suoi lombi, e il vigor suo nei muscoli del ventre. | His tail is curving like a cedar; the muscles of his legs are joined together. |
| Stende rigida come un cedro la coda; i nervi delle sue cosce sono intrecciati insieme. | His bones are pipes of brass, his legs are like rods of iron. |
| Le sue ossa sono tubi di rame; le sue membra, sbarre di ferro. | He is the chief of the ways of God, made by him for his pleasure. |
| Esso è il capolavoro di Dio; colui che lo fece l’ha fornito di falce, | He takes the produce of the mountains, where all the beasts of the field are at play. |
| perché i monti gli producon la pastura; e là tutte le bestie de’ campi gli scherzano intorno. | He takes his rest under the trees of the river, and in the pool, under the shade of the water-plants. |
| Si giace sotto i loti, nel folto de’ canneti, in mezzo alle paludi. | He is covered by the branches of the trees; the grasses of the stream are round him. |
| I loti lo copron dell’ombra loro, i salci del torrente lo circondano. | Truly, if the river is overflowing, it gives him no cause for fear; he has no sense of danger, even if Jordan is rushing against his mouth. |
| Straripi pure il fiume, ei non trema; rimane calmo, anche se avesse un Giordano alla gola. | Will anyone take him when he is on the watch, |
| Potrebbe alcuno impadronirsene assalendolo di fronte? o prenderlo colle reti per forargli il naso? | or put metal teeth through his nose? |
