| A wise son is a lover of teaching, but the ears of the haters of authority are shut to sharp words. | Il figliuol savio ascolta l’istruzione di suo padre, ma il beffardo non ascolta rimproveri. |
| A man will get good from the fruit of his lips, but the desire of the false is for violent acts. | Per il frutto delle sue labbra uno gode del bene, ma il desiderio dei perfidi è la violenza. |
| He who keeps a watch on his mouth keeps his life; but he whose lips are open wide will have destruction. | Chi custodisce la sua bocca preserva la propria vita; chi apre troppo le labbra va incontro alla rovina. |
| The hater of work does not get his desires, but the soul of the hard workers will be made fat. | L’anima del pigro desidera, e non ha nulla, ma l’anima dei diligenti sarà soddisfatta appieno. |
| The upright man is a hater of false words: the evil-doer gets a bad name and is put to shame. | Il giusto odia la menzogna, ma l’empio getta sugli altri vituperio ed onta. |
