| The word about Egypt. See, the Lord is seated on a quick-moving cloud, and is coming to Egypt: and the false gods of Egypt will be troubled at his coming, and the heart of Egypt will be turned to water. | Oracolo sull’Egitto. Ecco l’Eterno, che cavalcava portato da una nuvola leggera, e viene in Egitto; gl’idoli d’Egitto tremano dinanzi a lui, e all’Egitto si strugge, dentro, il cuore. |
| And I will send the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they will be fighting every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; town against town, and kingdom against kingdom. | Io inciterò Egiziani contro Egiziani, combatteranno il fratello contro il fratello, il vicino contro il vicino, città contro città, regno contro regno. |
| And the spirit of Egypt will be troubled in her, and I will make her decisions without effect: and they will be turning to the false gods, and to those who make hollow sounds, and to those who have control of spirits, and to those who are wise in secret arts. | Lo spirito che anima l’Egitto svanirà, io frustrerò i suoi disegni; e quelli consulteranno gl’idoli, gl’incantatori, gli evocatori di spiriti e gl’indovini. |
| And I will give the Egyptians into the hand of a cruel lord; and a hard king will be their ruler, says the Lord, the Lord of armies. | Io darò l’Egitto in mano d’un signore duro, e un re crudele signoreggerà su lui, dice il Signore, l’Eterno degli eserciti. |
| And the waters of the sea will be cut off, and the river will become dry and waste: | Le acque verranno meno al mare, il fiume diverrà secco, arido; |
| And the rivers will have an evil smell; the stream of Egypt will become small and dry: all the water-plants will come to nothing. | i rivi diventeranno infetti, i canali d’Egitto scemeranno e resteranno asciutti, le canne ed i giunchi deperiranno. |
| The grass-lands by the Nile, and everything planted by the Nile, will become dry, or taken away by the wind, and will come to an end. | Le praterie sul Nilo, lungo le rive del Nilo, tutti i seminati presso il fiume seccheranno, diverranno brulli, spariranno. |
| The fishermen will be sad, and all those who put fishing-lines into the Nile will be full of grief, and those whose nets are stretched out on the waters will have sorrow in their hearts. | I pescatori gemeranno, tutti quelli che gettan l’amo nel Nilo saranno in lutto, e quei che stendono le reti sull’acque languiranno. |
| And all the workers in linen thread, and those who make cotton cloth, will be put to shame. | Quei che lavorano il lino pettinato e i tessitori di cotone saranno confusi. |
| And the makers of twisted thread will be crushed, and those who ... will be sad in heart. | Le colonne del paese saranno infrante, tutti quelli che vivon d’un salario avran l’anima rattristata. |
| The chiefs of Zoan are completely foolish; the wisest guides of Pharaoh have become like beasts: how do you say to Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the offspring of early kings? | I principi di Tsoan non son che degli stolti; i più savi tra i consiglieri di Faraone dànno dei consigli insensati. Come potete mai dire a Faraone: "Io sono figliuolo de’ savi, figliuolo degli antichi re?" |
| Where, then, are your wise men? let them make clear to you, let them give you knowledge of the purpose of the Lord of armies for Egypt. | E dove sono i tuoi savi? Te lo annunziano essi e lo riconoscano essi stessi quel che l’Eterno degli eserciti ha deciso contro l’Egitto! |
| The chiefs of Zoan have become foolish, the chiefs of Noph are tricked, the heads of her tribes are the cause of Egypt's wandering out of the way. | I principi di Tsoan sono diventati stolti, i principi di Nof s’ingannano; han traviato l’Egitto, essi, la pietra angolare delle sue tribù. |
| The Lord has sent among them a spirit of error: and by them Egypt is turned out of the right way in all her doings, as a man overcome by wine is uncertain in his steps. | L’Eterno ha messo in loro uno spirito di vertigine, ed essi fan barcollare l’Egitto in ogni sua impresa, come l’ubriaco, che barcolla vomitando. |
| And in Egypt there will be no work for any man, head or tail, high or low, to do. | E nulla gioverà all’Egitto di quel che potran fare il capo o la coda, la palma o il giunco. |
| In that day the Egyptians will be like women: and the land will be shaking with fear because of the waving of the Lord's hand stretched out over it. | In quel giorno, l’Egitto sarà come le donne: tremerà, sarà spaventato, vedendo la mano dell’Eterno degli eserciti che s’agita, minacciosa contro di lui. |
| And the land of Judah will become a cause of great fear to Egypt; whenever its name comes to mind, Egypt will be in fear before the Lord of armies because of his purpose against it. | E il paese di Giuda sarà il terrore dell’Egitto; tutte le volte che gli se ne farà menzione, l’Egitto sarà spaventato a motivo della decisione presa contro di lui dall’Eterno degli eserciti. |
| In that day there will be five towns in the land of Egypt using the language of Canaan, and making oaths to the Lord of armies; and one of them will be named, The Town of the Sun. | In quel giorno, vi saranno nel paese d’Egitto cinque città che parleranno la lingua di Canaan, e che giureranno per l’Eterno degli eserciti; una d’esse si chiamerà "la città del sole". |
| In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the middle of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the Lord at the edge of the land. | In quel giorno, in mezzo al paese d’Egitto, vi sarà un altare eretto all’Eterno; e presso la frontiera, una colonna consacrata all’Eterno. |
| And it will be a sign and a witness to the Lord of armies in the land of Egypt: when they are crying out to the Lord because of their cruel masters, then he will send them a saviour and a strong one to make them free. | Sarà per l’Eterno degli eserciti un segno e una testimonianza nel paese d’Egitto; quand’essi grideranno all’Eterno a motivo dei loro oppressori, egli manderà loro un salvatore e un difensore a liberarli. |
| And the Lord will give the knowledge of himself to Egypt, and the Egyptians will give honour to the Lord in that day; they will give him worship with offerings and meal offerings, and will take an oath to the Lord and give effect to it. | E l’Eterno si farà conoscere all’Egitto e gli Egiziani, in quel giorno, conosceranno l’Eterno, gli offriranno un culto con sacrifizi ed offerte, faranno voti all’Eterno e li adempiranno. |
| And the Lord will send punishment on Egypt, and will make them well again; and when they come back to the Lord he will give ear to their prayer and take away their disease. | Così l’Eterno colpirà gli Egiziani: li colpirà e li guarirà, ed essi si convertiranno all’Eterno, che s’arrenderà alle loro supplicazioni e li guarirà. |
| In that day there will be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and Assyria will come into Egypt, and Egypt will come into Assyria; and the Egyptians will give worship to the Lord together with the Assyrians. | In quel giorno, vi sarà una strada dall’Egitto in Assiria; gli Assiri andranno in Egitto, e gli Egiziani in Assiria, e gli Egiziani serviranno l’Eterno con gli Assiri. |
| In that day Israel will be the third together with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing in the earth: | In quel giorno, Israele sarà terzo con l’Egitto e con l’Assiria, e tutti e tre saranno una benedizione in mezzo alla terra. |
| Because of the blessing of the Lord of armies which he has given them, saying, A blessing on Egypt my people, and on Assyria the work of my hands, and on Israel my heritage. | L’Eterno degli eserciti li benedirà, dicendo: "Benedetti siano l’Egitto, mio popolo, l’Assiria, opera delle mie mani, e Israele, mia eredità!" |
