| Will he who is protesting give teaching to the Ruler of all? Let him who has arguments to put forward against God give an answer. | Und der HERR antwortete Hiob und sprach: |
| And Job said in answer to the Lord, | Will mit dem Allmächtigen rechten der Haderer? Wer Gott tadelt, soll's der nicht verantworten? |
| Truly, I am of no value; what answer may I give to you? I will put my hand on my mouth. | Hiob aber antwortete dem HERRN und sprach: |
| I have said once, and even twice, what was in my mind, but I will not do so again. | Siehe, ich bin zu leichtfertig gewesen; was soll ich verantworten? Ich will meine Hand auf meinen Mund legen. |
| Then the Lord made answer to Job out of the storm-wind, and said, | Ich habe einmal geredet, und will nicht antworten; zum andernmal will ich's nicht mehr tun. |
| Get your strength together like a man of war: I will put questions to you, and you will give me the answers. | Und der HERR antwortete Hiob aus dem Wetter und sprach: |
| Will you even make my right of no value? will you say that I am wrong in order to make clear that you are right? | Gürte wie ein Mann deine Lenden; ich will dich fragen, lehre mich! |
| Have you an arm like God? have you a voice of thunder like his? | Solltest du mein Urteil zunichte machen und mich verdammen, daß du gerecht seist? |
| Put on the ornaments of your pride; be clothed with glory and power: | Hast du einen Arm wie Gott, und kannst mit gleicher Stimme donnern, wie er tut? |
| Let your wrath be overflowing; let your eyes see all the sons of pride, and make them low. | Schmücke dich mit Pracht und erhebe dich; ziehe Majestät und Herrlichkeit an! |
| Send destruction on all who are lifted up, pulling down the sinners from their places. | Streue aus den Zorn deines Grimmes; schaue an die Hochmütigen, wo sie sind, und demütige sie! |
| Let them be covered together in the dust; let their faces be dark in the secret place of the underworld. | Ja, schaue die Hochmütigen, wo sie sind und beuge sie; und zermalme die Gottlosen, wo sie sind! |
| Then I will give praise to you, saying that your right hand is able to give you salvation. | Verscharre sie miteinander in die Erde und versenke ihre Pracht ins Verborgene, |
| See now the Great Beast, whom I made, even as I made you; he takes grass for food, like the ox. | so will ich dir auch bekennen, daß dir deine rechte Hand helfen kann. |
| His strength is in his body, and his force in the muscles of his stomach. | Siehe da, den Behemoth, den ich neben dir gemacht habe; er frißt Gras wie ein Ochse. |
| His tail is curving like a cedar; the muscles of his legs are joined together. | Siehe seine Kraft ist in seinen Lenden und sein Vermögen in den Sehnen seines Bauches. |
| His bones are pipes of brass, his legs are like rods of iron. | Sein Schwanz streckt sich wie eine Zeder; die Sehnen seiner Schenkel sind dicht geflochten. |
| He is the chief of the ways of God, made by him for his pleasure. | Seine Knochen sind wie eherne Röhren; seine Gebeine sind wie eiserne Stäbe. |
| He takes the produce of the mountains, where all the beasts of the field are at play. | Er ist der Anfang der Wege Gottes; der ihn gemacht hat, der gab ihm sein Schwert. |
| He takes his rest under the trees of the river, and in the pool, under the shade of the water-plants. | Die Berge tragen ihm Kräuter, und alle wilden Tiere spielen daselbst. |
| He is covered by the branches of the trees; the grasses of the stream are round him. | Er liegt gern im Schatten, im Rohr und im Schlamm verborgen. |
| Truly, if the river is overflowing, it gives him no cause for fear; he has no sense of danger, even if Jordan is rushing against his mouth. | Das Gebüsch bedeckt ihn mit seinem Schatten, und die Bachweiden umgeben ihn. |
| Will anyone take him when he is on the watch, | Siehe, er schluckt in sich den Strom und achtet's nicht groß; läßt sich dünken, er wolle den Jordan mit seinem Munde ausschöpfen. |
| or put metal teeth through his nose? | Fängt man ihn wohl vor seinen Augen und durchbohrt ihm mit Stricken seine Nase? |
