Matthew 5:1 And seeing great masses of people he went up into the mountain; and when he was seated his disciples came to him.	Matthew 5:1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain: and when he had sat down, his disciples came unto him:
Matthew 5:2 And with these words he gave them teaching, saying,	Matthew 5:2 and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
Matthew 5:3 Happy are the poor in spirit: for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.	Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:4 Happy are those who are sad: for they will be comforted.	Matthew 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Matthew 5:5 Happy are the gentle: for the earth will be their heritage.	Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:6 Happy are those whose heart's desire is for righteousness: for they will have their desire.	Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Matthew 5:7 Happy are those who have mercy: for they will be given mercy.	Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Matthew 5:8 Happy are the clean in heart: for they will see God.	Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Matthew 5:9 Happy are the peacemakers: for they will be named sons of God.	Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God.
Matthew 5:10 Happy are those who are attacked on account of righteousness: for the kingdom of heaven will be theirs.	Matthew 5:10 Blessed are they that have been persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:11 Happy are you when men give you a bad name, and are cruel to you, and say all evil things against you falsely, because of me.	Matthew 5:11 Blessed are ye when [men] shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Matthew 5:12 Be glad and full of joy; for great is your reward in heaven: for so were the prophets attacked who were before you.	Matthew 5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets that were before you.
Matthew 5:13 You are the salt of the earth; but if its taste goes from the salt, how will you make it salt again? it is then good for nothing but to be put out and crushed under foot by men.	Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost its savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men.
Matthew 5:14 You are the light of the world. A town put on a hill may be seen by all.	Matthew 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid.
Matthew 5:15 And a burning light is not put under a vessel, but on its table; so that its rays may be shining on all who are in the house.	Matthew 5:15 Neither do [men] light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house.
Matthew 5:16 Even so let your light be shining before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.	Matthew 5:16 Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:17 Let there be no thought that I have come to put an end to the law or the prophets. I have not come for destruction, but to make complete.	Matthew 5:17 Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfil.
Matthew 5:18 Truly I say to you, Till heaven and earth come to an end, not the smallest letter or part of a letter will in any way be taken from the law, till all things are done.	Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all things be accomplished.
Matthew 5:19 Whoever then goes against the smallest of these laws, teaching men to do the same, will be named least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who keeps the laws, teaching others to keep them, will be named great in the kingdom of heaven.	Matthew 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:20 For I say to you, If your righteousness is not greater than the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never go into the kingdom of heaven.	Matthew 5:20 For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:21 You have knowledge that it was said in old times, You may not put to death; and, Whoever puts to death will be in danger of being judged:	Matthew 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
Matthew 5:22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be in danger of being judged; and he who says to his brother, Raca, will be in danger from the Sanhedrin; and whoever says, You foolish one, will be in danger of the hell of fire.	Matthew 5:22 but I say unto you, that every one who is angry with his brother shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council; and whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of the hell of fire.
Matthew 5:23 If then you are making an offering at the altar and there it comes to your mind that your brother has something against you,	Matthew 5:23 If therefore thou art offering thy gift at the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee,
Matthew 5:24 While your offering is still before the altar, first go and make peace with your brother, then come and make your offering.	Matthew 5:24 leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way, first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Matthew 5:25 Come to an agreement quickly with him who has a cause against you at law, while you are with him on the way, for fear that he may give you up to the judge and the judge may give you to the police and you may be put into prison.	Matthew 5:25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art with him in the way; lest haply the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
Matthew 5:26 Truly I say to you, You will not come out from there till you have made payment of the very last farthing.	Matthew 5:26 Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou have paid the last farthing.
Matthew 5:27 You have knowledge that it was said, You may not have connection with another man's wife:	Matthew 5:27 Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
Matthew 5:28 But I say to you that everyone whose eyes are turned on a woman with desire has had connection with her in his heart.	Matthew 5:28 but I say unto you, that every one that looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Matthew 5:29 And if your right eye is a cause of trouble to you, take it out and put it away from you; because it is better to undergo the loss of one part, than for all your body to go into hell.	Matthew 5:29 And if thy right eye causeth thee to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell.
Matthew 5:30 And if your right hand is a cause of trouble to you, let it be cut off and put it away from you; because it is better to undergo the loss of one part, than for all your body to go into hell.	Matthew 5:30 And if thy right hand causeth thee to stumble, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body go into hell.
Matthew 5:31 Again, it was said, Whoever puts away his wife has to give her a statement in writing for this purpose:	Matthew 5:31 It was said also, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
Matthew 5:32 But I say to you that everyone who puts away his wife for any other cause but the loss of her virtue, makes her false to her husband; and whoever takes her as his wife after she is put away, is no true husband to her.	Matthew 5:32 but I say unto you, that every one that putteth away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, maketh her an adulteress: and whosoever shall marry her when she is put away committeth adultery.
Matthew 5:33 Again, you have knowledge that it was said in old times, Do not take false oaths, but give effect to your oaths to the Lord:	Matthew 5:33 Again, ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
Matthew 5:34 But I say to you, Take no oaths at all: not by the heaven, because it is the seat of God;	Matthew 5:34 but I say unto you, swear not at all; neither by the heaven, for it is the throne of God;
Matthew 5:35 Or by the earth, because it is the resting-place for his foot; or by Jerusalem, because it is the town of the great King.	Matthew 5:35 nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
Matthew 5:36 You may not take an oath by your head, because you are not able to make one hair white or black.	Matthew 5:36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, for thou canst not make one hair white or black.
Matthew 5:37 But let your words be simply, Yes or No: and whatever is more than these is of the Evil One.	Matthew 5:37 But let your speech be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: and whatsoever is more than these is of the evil [one].
Matthew 5:38 You have knowledge that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:	Matthew 5:38 Ye have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
Matthew 5:39 But I say to you, Do not make use of force against an evil man; but to him who gives you a blow on the right side of your face let the left be turned.	Matthew 5:39 but I say unto you, resist not him that is evil: but whosoever smiteth thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Matthew 5:40 And if any man goes to law with you and takes away your coat, do not keep back your robe from him.	Matthew 5:40 And if any man would go to law with thee, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
Matthew 5:41 And whoever makes you go one mile, go with him two.	Matthew 5:41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go one mile, go with him two.
Matthew 5:42 Give to him who comes with a request, and keep not your property from him who would for a time make use of it.	Matthew 5:42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
Matthew 5:43 You have knowledge that it was said, Have love for your neighbour, and hate for him who is against you:	Matthew 5:43 Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy:
Matthew 5:44 But I say to you, Have love for those who are against you, and make prayer for those who are cruel to you;	Matthew 5:44 but I say unto you, love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you;
Matthew 5:45 So that you may be the sons of your Father in heaven; for his sun gives light to the evil and to the good, and he sends rain on the upright man and on the sinner.	Matthew 5:45 that ye may be sons of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust.
Matthew 5:46 For if you have love for those who have love for you, what credit is it to you? do not the tax-farmers the same?	Matthew 5:46 For if ye love them that love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
Matthew 5:47 And if you say, Good day, to your brothers only, what do you do more than others? do not even the Gentiles the same?	Matthew 5:47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more [than others?] do not even the Gentiles the same?
Matthew 5:48 Be then complete in righteousness, even as your Father in heaven is complete.	Matthew 5:48 Ye therefore shall be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
