| Und es begab sich, daß er kam in ein Haus eines Obersten der Pharisäer an einem Sabbat, das Brot zu essen; und sie hatten acht auf ihn. | And it came about that when he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees on the Sabbath, to have a meal, they were watching him. |
| Und siehe, da war ein Mensch vor ihm, der war wassersüchtig. | And a certain man was there who had a disease. |
| Und Jesus antwortete und sagte zu den Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäern und sprach: Ist's auch recht, am Sabbat zu heilen? | And Jesus, answering, said to the scribes and Pharisees, Is it right to make people well on the Sabbath or not? |
| Sie aber schwiegen still. Und er griff ihn an und heilte ihn und ließ ihn gehen. | But they said nothing. And he made him well and sent him away. |
| Und antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Welcher ist unter euch, dem sein Ochse oder Esel in den Brunnen fällt, und der nicht alsbald ihn herauszieht am Sabbattage? | And he said to them, Which of you, whose ox or ass has got into a water-hole, will not straight away get him out on the Sabbath? |
| Und sie konnten ihm darauf nicht wieder Antwort geben. | And they had no answer to that question. |
| Er sagte aber ein Gleichnis zu den Gästen, da er merkte, wie sie erwählten obenan zu sitzen, und sprach zu ihnen: | And he gave teaching in the form of a story to the guests who came to the feast, when he saw how they took the best seats; saying to them, |
| Wenn du von jemand geladen wirst zur Hochzeit, so setze dich nicht obenan, daß nicht etwa ein Vornehmerer denn du von ihm geladen sei, | When you get a request to come to a feast, do not take the best seat, for a more important man than you may be coming, |
| und dann komme, der dich und ihn geladen hat, und spreche zu dir: Weiche diesem! und du müssest dann mit Scham untenan sitzen. | And then the giver of the feast will come to you and say, Give your place to this man; and you, with shame, will have to take the lowest seat. |
| Sondern wenn du geladen wirst, so gehe hin und setze dich untenan, auf daß, wenn da kommt, der dich geladen hat, er spreche zu dir: Freund, rücke hinauf! Dann wirst du Ehre haben vor denen, die mit dir am Tische sitzen. | But when you come, go and take the lowest seat, so that when the giver of the feast comes, he may say to you, Friend, come up higher; and then you will have honour in the eyes of all the others who are there. |
| Denn wer sich selbst erhöht, der soll erniedrigt werden; und wer sich selbst erniedrigt, der soll erhöht werden. | For every man who gives himself a high place will be put down, but he who takes a low place will be lifted up. |
| Er sprach auch zu dem, der ihn geladen hatte: Wenn du ein Mittags-oder Abendmahl machst, so lade nicht deine Freunde noch deine Brüder noch deine Gefreunden noch deine Nachbarn, die da reich sind, auf daß sie dich nicht etwa wieder laden und dir vergolten werde. | And he said to the master of the house, When you give a feast, do not send for your friends and your brothers and your family or your neighbours who have wealth, for they may give a feast for you, and so you will get a reward. |
| Sondern wenn du ein Mahl machst, so lade die Armen, die Krüppel, die Lahmen, die Blinden, | But when you give a feast, send for the poor and the blind and those who are broken in body: |
| so bist du selig; denn sie haben's dir nicht zu vergelten, es wird dir aber vergolten werden in der Auferstehung der Gerechten. | And you will have a blessing, because they will not be able to give you any payment, and you will get your reward when the upright come back from the dead. |
| Da aber solches hörte einer, der mit zu Tische saß, sprach er zu ihm: Selig ist, der das Brot ißt im Reiche Gottes. | And, hearing these words, one of those who were at table with him said to him, Happy is the man who will be a guest in the kingdom of God. |
| Er aber sprach zu ihm: Es war ein Mensch, der machte ein großes Abendmahl und lud viele dazu. | And he said to them, A certain man gave a great feast, and sent word of it to a number of people. |
| Und sandte seinen Knecht aus zur Stunde des Abendmahls, zu sagen den Geladenen: Kommt, denn es ist alles bereit! | And when the time had come, he sent his servants to say to them, Come, for all things are now ready. |
| Und sie fingen an, alle nacheinander, sich zu entschuldigen. Der erste sprach zu ihm: Ich habe einen Acker gekauft und muß hinausgehen und ihn besehen; ich bitte dich, entschuldige mich. | And they all gave reasons why they were not able to come. The first said to him, I have got a new field, and it is necessary for me to go and see it: I am full of regret that I am unable to come. |
| Und der andere sprach: Ich habe fünf Joch Ochsen gekauft, und ich gehe jetzt hin, sie zu besehen; ich bitte dich, entschuldige mich. | And another said, I have got some cattle, and I am going to make a test of them: I am full of regret that I am unable to come. |
| Und der dritte sprach: Ich habe ein Weib genommen, darum kann ich nicht kommen. | And another said, I have been married, and so I am not able to come. |
| Und der Knecht kam und sagte das seinem Herrn wieder. Da ward der Hausherr zornig und sprach zu seinem Knechte: Gehe aus schnell auf die Straßen und Gassen der Stadt und führe die Armen und Krüppel und Lahmen und Blinden herein. | And the servant came back and gave his master an account of these things. Then the master of the house was angry and said to the servant, Go out quickly into the streets of the town and get the poor, the blind, and those who are broken in body. |
| Und der Knecht sprach: Herr, es ist geschehen, was du befohlen hast; es ist aber noch Raum da. | And the servant said, Lord, your orders have been done, and still there is room. |
| Und der Herr sprach zu dem Knechte: Gehe aus auf die Landstraßen und an die Zäune und nötige sie hereinzukommen, auf das mein Haus voll werde. | And the lord said to the servant, Go out into the roads and the fields, and make them come in, so that my house may be full. |
| Ich sage euch aber, daß der Männer keiner, die geladen waren mein Abendmahl schmecken wird. | For I say to you that not one of those who were requested to come will have a taste of my feast. |
| Es ging aber viel Volks mit ihm; und er wandte sich und sprach zu ihnen: | Now a great number of people went with him. |
| So jemand zu mir kommt und haßt nicht seinen Vater, Mutter, Weib, Kinder, Brüder, Schwestern, auch dazu sein eigen Leben, der kann nicht mein Jünger sein. | And turning round, he said to them, If any man comes to me, and has not hate for his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, and even for his life, he may not be my disciple. |
| Und wer nicht sein Kreuz trägt und mir nachfolgt, der kann nicht mein Jünger sein. | Whoever does not take up his cross and come after me may not be my disciple. |
| Wer ist aber unter euch, der einen Turm bauen will, und sitzt nicht zuvor und überschlägt die Kosten, ob er's habe, hinauszuführen? | For which of you, desiring to put up a tower, does not first give much thought to the price, if he will have enough to make it complete? |
| auf daß nicht, wo er Grund gelegt hat und kann's nicht hinausführen, alle, die es sehen, fangen an, sein zu spotten, | For fear that if he makes a start and is not able to go on with it to the end, all who see it will be laughing at him, |
| und sagen: Dieser Mensch hob an zu bauen, und kann's nicht hinausführen. | And saying, This man made a start at building and is not able to make it complete. |
| Oder welcher König will sich begeben in einen Streit wider einen andern König und sitzt nicht zuvor und ratschlagt, ob er könne mit zehntausend begegnen dem, der über ihn kommt mit zwanzigtausend? | Or what king, going to war with another king, will not first take thought if he will be strong enough, with ten thousand men, to keep off him who comes against him with twenty thousand? |
| Wo nicht, so schickt er Botschaft, wenn jener noch ferne ist, und bittet um Frieden. | Or while the other is still a great distance away, he sends representatives requesting conditions of peace. |
| Also muß auch ein jeglicher unter euch, der nicht absagt allem, was er hat, kann nicht mein Jünger sein. | And so whoever is not ready to give up all he has may not be my disciple. |
| Das Salz ist ein gutes Ding; wo aber das Salz dumm wird, womit wird man's würzen? | For salt is good, but if the taste goes from it, of what use is it? |
| Es ist weder auf das Land noch in den Mist nütze, sondern man wird's wegwerfen. Wer Ohren hat, zu hören, der höre! | It is no good for the land or for the place of waste; no one has a use for it. He who has ears, let him give ear. |
