| Ug sa ikanapulog-lima ka tuig sa paghari ni Tiberio Cesar, sa diha nga si Poncio Pilato mao pay gobernador sa Judea, ug si Herodes maoy gobernador sa Galilea, ug si Felipe nga iyang igsoong lalaki maoy gobernador sa kayutaan sa Iturea ug sa Triconite, ug si Lisanias maoy gobernador sa Abilinia, | Now in the fifteenth year of the rule of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being ruler of Judaea, and Herod being king of Galilee, his brother Philip king of the country of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias king of Abilene, |
| sa diha nga ang labawng sacerdote mao si Anas ug si Caifas, ang pulong sa Dios miabut kang Juan nga anak ni Zacarias, sa didto siya sa mga awaaw. | When Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, the word of the Lord came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the waste land. |
| Ug ang tanang kayutaan nga kasikbit sa Jordan giadto niya nga nagwali mahitungod sa bautismo sa paghinulsol alang sa kapasayloan sa mga sala. | And he came into all the country round about Jordan, preaching baptism as a sign of forgiveness of sin for those whose hearts were changed. |
| Sumala sa nahisulat diha sa basahon sa mga pulong ni Isaias nga profeta: Ang tingog sa magasinggit diha sa mga awaaw: Andama ninyo ang dalan alang sa Ginoo, tul-ira ninyo ang iyang mga agianan | As it says in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, The voice of one crying in the waste land, Make ready the way of the Lord, make his roads straight. |
| Ang tanang walog pagatabonan, ug ang tanang bukid ug bungtod pagapatagon, ug ang mga hiwi pagatul-iron, ug ang mga dalan nga sagalsalon pagahinloon, | Every valley will be lifted up, and all the mountains and hills made low, and the twisted will be made straight, and the rough ways smooth; |
| ug ang tanang tawo makakita sa kaluwasan gikan sa Dios. | And all flesh will see the salvation of God. |
| Busa miingon siya sa mga panon sa katawhan nga miadto aron sa pagpabautismo kaniya. "Kamong mga anak sa mga bitin! Kinsa bay nagpasidaan kaninyo sa pagkalagiw gikan sa kapungot nga umalabut? | So he said to the people who went out to him for baptism: You offspring of snakes, at whose word are you going in flight from the wrath to come? |
| Sa ingon niana, pamunga kamog mga bunga nga mahiangay sa paghinulsol, ug ayaw ninyo sugdi ang pag-ingon nganha sa inyong kaugalingon, `Si Abraham among amahan; kay sultihan ko kamo, nga ang Dios makahimo sa pagpaliwat ug mga anak alang kang Abraham gikan niining mga bato. | Make clear by your acts that your hearts have been changed; and do not say to yourselves, We have Abraham for our father: for I say to you that God is able from these stones to make children of Abraham. |
| Ug bisan gani karon, ang wasay gikataon na diha sa gamut sa mga kahoy; busa ang tanang kahoy nga wala mamungag mga maayong bunga pagaputlon ug igasalibay ngadto sa kalayo." | And even now the axe is put to the root of the trees; and every tree which does not have good fruit will be cut down and put into the fire. |
| Ug ang mga panon sa katawhan nangutana kaniya, "Nan, unsa may among buhaton?" | And the people put questions to him, saying, What have we to do? |
| Siya mitubag kanila, "Siya nga adunay duha kabuok kamisola, kinahanglan manghatag niadtong walay iya; ug siya nga adunay makaon, kinahanglan magahimo sa ingon." | And he made answer and said to them, He who has two coats, let him give to him who has not even one; and he who has food, let him do the same. |
| Ang mga maniningil sa buhis miabut usab aron sa pagpabautismo, ug sila miingon kaniya, "Magtutudlo, unsa may among buhaton?" | Then tax-farmers came to him for baptism and said to him, Master, what have we to do? |
| Siya mitubag kanila, "Ayaw na kamo pagpaningil ug labaw sa ginatugot kaninyo." | And he said to them, Do not make an attempt to get more money than the right amount. |
| Ug ang mga sundalo usab nangutana kaniya, "Ug kami, unsa Memay among buhaton?" Siya mitubag kanila, "Ayaw na kamo pagpanguhag salapi pinaagi sa paglugos o sa pagbutangbutang, ug magpahiuyon lamang kamo sa inyong mga suhol." | And men of the army put questions to him, saying, And what have we to do? And he said to them, Do no violent acts to any man, and do not take anything without right, and let your payment be enough for you. |
| Ug samtang ang mga tawo nagmapaabuton, ug ang tanan nagtulotimbang diha sa ilang mga kasingkasing mahitungod kang Juan, kon mao na ba kaha siya ang Cristo, | And while the people were waiting, and all men were questioning in their hearts about John, if he was the Christ or not, |
| si Juan mitubag kanilang tanan, "Kaninyo nagabautismo ako sa tubig, apan adunay umalabut nga labi pang gamhanan kay kanako, nga bisan pa gani sa higut sa iyang mga sapin dili ako takus sa paghubad; kaninyo ang iyang igabautismo mao ang Espiritu Santo ug kalayo. | John made answer, saying to them all, Truly, I give you baptism with water, but one is coming who is greater than I, whose shoes I am not good enough to undo: he will give you baptism with the Holy Spirit, and with fire: |
| Ang iyang paliran anaa na sa iyang kamot aron sa paghinlo sa iyang giukan ug sa paghipos sa trigo ngadto sa iyang dapa, apan ang mga uhot iyang pagasunogon sa kalayo nga dili arang mapalong." | In whose hand is the instrument with which he will make clean his grain; he will put the good grain in his store, but the waste will be burned in the fire which will never be put out. |
| Sa ingon niini ug sa uban pang daghang mga pagpahamatngon, si Juan nagwali sa maayong balita ngadto sa mga tawo. | And so comforting them with these and other words, he gave the good news to the people; |
| Apan si Herodes nga gobernador, nga gibadlong niya tungod kang Herodias nga asawa sa igsoon niya ni Herodes, ug tungod sa tanang dautang butang nga nabuhat ni Herodes, | But Herod the king, because John had made a protest on account of Herodias, his brother's wife, and other evil things which Herod had done, |
| Midugang pa niini sa tanan, nga maa ang iyang pagbanlud kang Juan sa bilanggoan. | Did this most evil thing of all, and had John shut up in prison. |
| Ug sa nabautismohan na ang tanang tawo, ug sa diha nga si Jesus usab nabautismohan na ug nag-ampo, ang langit nabukas, | Now it came about that when all the people had been given baptism, Jesus, having had baptism with them, was in prayer, when, the heaven being open, |
| ug diha kaniya mikunsad ang Espiritu Santo sa dagway nga lawasnon, ingon sa salampati, ug gikan sa langit miabut ang tingog nga nag-ingon, "Ikaw akong Anak nga pinalangga; kanimo may kalipay ako." | The Holy Spirit came down in the form of a dove, and a voice came from heaven, saying, You are my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well pleased. |
| Ug sa pagsugod ni Jesus sa iyang pagpang-alagad, siya may panuigon nga katloan ka tuig; siya (sumala sa gipakaingon) anak ni Jose, nga anak ni Heli, | And Jesus at this time was about thirty years old, being the son (as it seemed) of Joseph, the son of Heli, |
| nga anak ni Matat, nga anak ni Levi, nga anak ni Melqui, | The son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph, |
| nga anak ni Matatias, nga anak ni Amos, nga anak ni Nahum, nga anak ni Esli, nga anak ni Nague, | The son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai, |
| nga anak ni Maat, nga anak ni Matatias, nga anak ni Semein, nga anak ni Josec, nga anak ni Juda, | The son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Josech, the son of Joda, |
| nga anak ni Joanan, nga anak ni Resa, nga anak ni Zorobabel, nga anak ni Salatiel, nga anak ni Neri, | The son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri, |
| nga anak ni Melqui, nga anak ni Adi, nga anak ni Cosam, nga anak ni Elmadam, nga anak ni Er, | The son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er, |
| nga anak ni Jesus, nga anak ni Eliezer, nga anak ni Jorim, nga anak ni Matat, nga anak ni Levi, | The son of Jesus, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, |
| nga anak ni Simeon, nga anak ni Juda, nga anak ni Jose, nga anak ni Jonam, nga anak ni Eliaquim, | The son of Symeon, the son of Judas, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim, |
| nga anak ni Melea, nga anak ni Mena, nga anak ni Matata, nga anak ni Natan, nga anak ni David, | The son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David, |
| nga anak ni Jese, nga anak ni Obed, nga anak ni Booz, nga Meanak ni Sala, nga anak ni Naason, | The son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon, |
| nga anak ni Aminadab, nga anak ni Admin, nga anak ni Arni, nga anak ni Esrom, nga anak ni Fares, nga anak ni Juda, | The son of Amminadab, the son of Arni, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah, |
| nga anak ni Jacob, nga anak ni Isaac, nga anak ni Abraham, nga anak ni Tara, nga anak ni Nacor, | The son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor, |
