Actes 7:1 ^
Le souverain sacrificateur dit: Les choses sont-elles ainsi?
Acts 7:1 ^
Then the high priest said, Are these things true?
Actes 7:2 ^
Étienne répondit: Hommes frères et pères, écoutez! Le Dieu de gloire apparut à notre père Abraham, lorsqu`il était en Mésopotamie, avant qu`il s`établît à Charran; et il lui dit:
Acts 7:2 ^
And he said, My brothers and fathers, give hearing. The God of glory came to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he was living in Haran,
Actes 7:3 ^
Quitte ton pays et ta famille, et va dans le pays que je te montrerai.
Acts 7:3 ^
And said to him, Go out of your land, and away from your family, and come into the land to which I will be your guide.
Actes 7:4 ^
Il sortit alors du pays des Chaldéens, et s`établit à Charran. De là, après la mort de son père, Dieu le fit passer dans ce pays que vous habitez maintenant;
Acts 7:4 ^
Then he came out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and went into Haran; and from there, when his father was dead, he was guided by God into this land, where you are living now:
Actes 7:5 ^
il ne lui donna aucune propriété en ce pays, pas même de quoi poser le pied, mais il promit de lui en donner la possession, et à sa postérité après lui, quoiqu`il n`eût point d`enfant.
Acts 7:5 ^
And God gave him no heritage in it, not even enough to put his foot on: but he gave him an undertaking that he would give it to him and to his children after him, though he had no child at that time.
Actes 7:6 ^
Dieu parla ainsi: Sa postérité séjournera dans un pays étranger; on la réduira en servitude et on la maltraitera pendant quatre cents ans.
Acts 7:6 ^
And God said that his seed would be living in a strange land, and that they would make them servants, and be cruel to them for four hundred years.
Actes 7:7 ^
Mais la nation à laquelle ils auront été asservis, c`est moi qui la jugerai, dit Dieu. Après cela, ils sortiront, et ils me serviront dans ce lieu-ci.
Acts 7:7 ^
And I will be the judge, said God, of that nation which made them servants: and after that, they will come out and give me worship in this place.
Actes 7:8 ^
Puis Dieu donna à Abraham l`alliance de la circoncision; et ainsi, Abraham, ayant engendré Isaac, le circoncit le huitième jour; Isaac engendra et circoncit Jacob, et Jacob les douze patriarches.
Acts 7:8 ^
And he made with him the agreement of which circumcision was the sign. And so Abraham had a son, Isaac, and gave him circumcision on the eighth day; and Isaac had a son, Jacob, and Jacob was the father of the twelve heads of the families of Israel.

Les patriarches, jaloux de Joseph, le vendirent pour être emmené en Égypte.
Acts 7:9 ^
And the brothers, moved with envy against Joseph, gave him to the Egyptians for money: but God was with him,
Actes 7:10 ^
Mais Dieu fut avec lui, et le délivra de toutes ses tribulations; il lui donna de la sagesse et lui fit trouver grâce devant Pharaon, roi d`Égypte, qui l`établit gouverneur d`Égypte et de toute sa maison.
Acts 7:10 ^
And made him free from all his troubles, and gave him wisdom and the approval of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who made him ruler over Egypt and all his house.
Actes 7:11 ^
Il survint une famine dans tout le pays d`Égypte, et dans celui de Canaan. La détresse était grande, et nos pères ne trouvaient pas de quoi se nourrir.
Acts 7:11 ^
Now there was no food to be had in all Egypt and Canaan, and there was great trouble: and our fathers were not able to get food.
Actes 7:12 ^
Jacob apprit qu`il y avait du blé en Égypte, et il y envoya nos pères une première fois.
Acts 7:12 ^
But Jacob, hearing that there was grain in Egypt, sent out our fathers the first time.
Actes 7:13 ^
Et la seconde fois, Joseph fut reconnu par ses frères, et Pharaon sut de quelle famille il était.
Acts 7:13 ^
And the second time his brothers had a meeting with Joseph, and Pharaoh had knowledge of Joseph's family.
Actes 7:14 ^
Puis Joseph envoya chercher son père Jacob, et toute sa famille, composée de soixante-quinze personnes.
Acts 7:14 ^
Then Joseph sent for Jacob his father and all his family, seventy-five persons.
Actes 7:15 ^
Jacob descendit en Égypte, où il mourut, ainsi que nos pères;
Acts 7:15 ^
And Jacob went down to Egypt, and came to his end there, and so did our fathers;
Actes 7:16 ^
et ils furent transportés à Sichem, et déposés dans le sépulcre qu`Abraham avait acheté, à prix d`argent, des fils d`Hémor, père de Sichem.
Acts 7:16 ^
And they were taken over to Shechem, and put to rest in the place which Abraham got for a price in silver from the sons of Hamor in Shechem.
Actes 7:17 ^
Le temps approchait où devait s`accomplir la promesse que Dieu avait faite à Abraham, et le peuple s`accrut et se multiplia en Égypte,
Acts 7:17 ^
But when the time was near for putting into effect the undertaking which God had given to Abraham, the people were increasing in Egypt,
Actes 7:18 ^
jusqu`à ce que parut un autre roi, qui n`avait pas connu Joseph.
Acts 7:18 ^
Till another king came to power, who had no knowledge of Joseph.
Actes 7:19 ^
Ce roi, usant d`artifice contre notre race, maltraita nos pères, au point de leur faire exposer leurs enfants, pour qu`ils ne vécussent pas.
Acts 7:19 ^
He, having evil designs against our nation, was cruel to our fathers, and they were forced to put out their young children, so that they might not go on living.
Actes 7:20 ^
A cette époque, naquit Moïse, qui était beau aux yeux de Dieu. Il fut nourri trois mois dans la maison de son père;
Acts 7:20 ^
At which time Moses came to birth, and he was very beautiful; and he was kept for three months in his father's house:
Actes 7:21 ^
et, quand il eut été exposé, la fille de Pharaon le recueillit, et l`éleva comme son fils.
Acts 7:21 ^
And when he was put out, Pharaoh's daughter took him and kept him as her son.
Actes 7:22 ^
Moïse fut instruit dans toute la sagesse des Égyptiens, et il était puissant en paroles et en oeuvres.
Acts 7:22 ^
And Moses was trained in all the wisdom of Egypt, and was great in his words and works.
Actes 7:23 ^
Il avait quarante ans, lorsqu`il lui vint dans le coeur de visiter ses frères, les fils d`Israël.
Acts 7:23 ^
But when he was almost forty years old, it came into his heart to go and see his brothers, the children of Israel.
Actes 7:24 ^
Il en vit un qu`on outrageait, et, prenant sa défense, il vengea celui qui était maltraité, et frappa l`Égyptien.
Acts 7:24 ^
And seeing one of them being attacked, he went to his help and gave the Egyptian a death-blow:
Actes 7:25 ^
Il pensait que ses frères comprendraient que Dieu leur accordait la délivrance par sa main; mais ils ne comprirent pas.
Acts 7:25 ^
And he was hoping that his brothers would see that God had sent him to be their saviour; but they did not see.
Actes 7:26 ^
Le jour suivant, il parut au milieu d`eux comme ils se battaient, et il les exhorta à la paix: Hommes, dit-il, vous êtes frères; pourquoi vous maltraitez-vous l`un l`autre?
Acts 7:26 ^
And the day after, he came to them, while they were having a fight, and would have made peace between them, saying, Sirs, you are brothers; why do you do wrong to one another?
Actes 7:27 ^
Mais celui qui maltraitait son prochain le repoussa, en disant: Qui t`a établi chef et juge sur nous?
Acts 7:27 ^
But the man who was doing wrong to his neighbour, pushing him away, said, Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?
Actes 7:28 ^
Veux-tu me tuer, comme tu as tué hier l`Égyptien?
Acts 7:28 ^
Will you put me to death as you did the Egyptian yesterday?
Actes 7:29 ^
A cette parole, Moïse prit la fuite, et il alla séjourner dans le pays de Madian, où il engendra deux fils.
Acts 7:29 ^
And at these words, Moses went in flight to the land of Midian, and was living there for a time, and had two sons.
Actes 7:30 ^
Quarante ans plus tard, un ange lui apparut, au désert de la montagne de Sinaï, dans la flamme d`un buisson en feu.
Acts 7:30 ^
At the end of forty years, an angel came to him in the waste land of Sinai, in the flame of a burning thorn-tree.
Actes 7:31 ^
Moïse, voyant cela, fut étonné de cette apparition; et, comme il s`approchait pour examiner, la voix du Seigneur se fit entendre:
Acts 7:31 ^
And Moses, seeing it, was full of wonder, and when he came up to have a nearer view of it, the voice of the Lord came to him, saying,
Actes 7:32 ^
Je suis le Dieu de tes pères, le Dieu d`Abraham, d`Isaac et de Jacob. Et Moïse, tout tremblant, n`osait regarder.
Acts 7:32 ^
I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob. And Moses, shaking with fear, kept his eyes from looking at it.
Actes 7:33 ^
Le Seigneur lui dit: Ote tes souliers de tes pieds, car le lieu sur lequel tu te tiens est une terre sainte.
Acts 7:33 ^
And the Lord said, Take off the shoes from your feet, for the place where you are is holy.
Actes 7:34 ^
J`ai vu la souffrance de mon peuple qui est en Égypte, j`ai entendu ses gémissements, et je suis descendu pour le délivrer. Maintenant, va, je t`enverrai en Égypte.
Acts 7:34 ^
Truly, I have seen the sorrows of my people in Egypt, and their cries have come to my ears, and I have come down to make them free: and now, come, I will send you to Egypt.
Actes 7:35 ^
Ce Moïse, qu`ils avaient renié, en disant: Qui t`a établi chef et juge? c`est lui que Dieu envoya comme chef et comme libérateur avec l`aide de l`ange qui lui était apparu dans le buisson.
Acts 7:35 ^
This Moses, whom they would not have, saying, Who made you a ruler and a judge? him God sent to be a ruler and a saviour, by the hand of the angel whom he saw in the thorn-tree.
Actes 7:36 ^
C`est lui qui les fit sortir d`Égypte, en opérant des prodiges et des miracles au pays d`Égypte, au sein de la mer Rouge, et au désert, pendant quarante ans.
Acts 7:36 ^
This man took them out, having done wonders and signs in Egypt and in the Red Sea and in the waste land, for forty years.
Actes 7:37 ^
C`est ce Moïse qui dit aux fils d`Israël: Dieu vous suscitera d`entre vos frères un prophète comme moi.
Acts 7:37 ^
This is the same Moses, who said to the children of Israel, God will give you a prophet from among your brothers, like me.
Actes 7:38 ^
C`est lui qui, lors de l`assemblée au désert, étant avec l`ange qui lui parlait sur la montagne de Sinaï et avec nos pères, reçut des oracles vivants, pour nous les donner.
Acts 7:38 ^
This is the man who was in the church in the waste land with the angel who was talking to him in Sinai, and with our fathers; and to him were given the living words of God, so that he might give them to you.
Actes 7:39 ^
Nos pères ne voulurent pas lui obéir, ils le repoussèrent, et ils tournèrent leur coeur vers l`Égypte,
Acts 7:39 ^
By whom our fathers would not be controlled; but they put him on one side, turning back in their hearts to Egypt,
Actes 7:40 ^
en disant à Aaron: Fais-nous des dieux qui marchent devant nous; car ce Moïse qui nous a fait sortir du pays d`Égypte, nous ne savons ce qu`il est devenu.
Acts 7:40 ^
And saying to Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: as for this Moses, who took us out of the land of Egypt, we have no idea what has become of him.
Actes 7:41 ^
Et, en ces jours-là, ils firent un veau, ils offrirent un sacrifice à l`idole, et se réjouirent de l`oeuvre de leurs mains.
Acts 7:41 ^
And they made the image of a young ox in those days, and made an offering to it, and had joy in the work of their hands.
Actes 7:42 ^
Alors Dieu se détourna, et les livra au culte de l`armée du ciel, selon qu`il est écrit dans le livre des prophètes: M`avez-vous offert des victimes et des sacrifices Pendant quarante ans au désert, maison d`Israël?...
Acts 7:42 ^
But God was turned from them and let them give worship to the stars of heaven, as it says in the book of the prophets, Did you make offerings to me of sheep and oxen for forty years in the waste land, O house of Israel?
Actes 7:43 ^
Vous avez porté la tente de Moloch Et l`étoile du dieu Remphan, Ces images que vous avez faites pour les adorer! Aussi vous transporterai-je au delà de Babylone.
Acts 7:43 ^
And you took up the tent of Moloch and the star of the god Rephan, images which you made to give worship to them: and I will take you away, farther than Babylon.
Actes 7:44 ^
Nos pères avaient au désert le tabernacle du témoignage, comme l`avait ordonné celui qui dit à Moïse de le faire d`après le modèle qu`il avait vu.
Acts 7:44 ^
Our fathers had the Tent of witness in the waste land, as God gave orders to Moses to make it after the design which he had seen.
Actes 7:45 ^
Et nos pères, l`ayant reçu, l`introduisirent, sous la conduite de Josué, dans le pays qui était possédé par les nations que Dieu chassa devant eux, et il y resta jusqu`aux jours de David.
Acts 7:45 ^
Which our fathers, in their turn, took with them when, with Joshua, they came into the heritage of the nations whom God was driving out before the face of our fathers, till the time of David,
Actes 7:46 ^
David trouva grâce devant Dieu, et demanda d`élever une demeure pour le Dieu de Jacob;
Acts 7:46 ^
Who was pleasing to God; and he had a desire to make a holy tent for the God of Jacob.
Actes 7:47 ^
et ce fut Salomon qui lui bâtit une maison.
Acts 7:47 ^
But Solomon was the builder of his house.
Actes 7:48 ^
Mais le Très Haut n`habite pas dans ce qui est fait de main d`homme, comme dit le prophète:
Acts 7:48 ^
But still, the Most High has not his resting-place in houses made with hands, as the prophet says,
Actes 7:49 ^
Le ciel est mon trône, Et la terre mon marchepied. Quelle maison me bâtirez-vous, dit le Seigneur, Ou quel sera le lieu de mon repos?
Acts 7:49 ^
Heaven is the seat of my power, and earth is a resting-place for my feet: what sort of house will you make for me, says the Lord, or what is my place of rest?
Actes 7:50 ^
N`est-ce pas ma main qui a fait toutes ces choses?...
Acts 7:50 ^
Did not my hand make all these things?
Actes 7:51 ^
Hommes au cou raide, incirconcis de coeur et d`oreilles! vous vous opposez toujours au Saint Esprit. Ce que vos pères ont été, vous l`êtes aussi.
Acts 7:51 ^
You whose hearts are hard and whose ears are shut to me; you are ever working against the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.
Actes 7:52 ^
Lequel des prophètes vos pères n`ont-ils pas persécuté? Ils ont tué ceux qui annonçaient d`avance la venue du Juste, que vous avez livré maintenant, et dont vous avez été les meurtriers,
Acts 7:52 ^
Which of the prophets was not cruelly attacked by your fathers? and they put to death those who gave them the news of the coming of the Upright One; whom you have now given up and put to death;
Actes 7:53 ^
vous qui avez reçu la loi d`après des commandements d`anges, et qui ne l`avez point gardée!...
Acts 7:53 ^
You, to whom the law was given as it was ordered by angels, and who have not kept it.
Actes 7:54 ^
En entendant ces paroles, ils étaient furieux dans leur coeur, et ils grinçaient des dents contre lui.
Acts 7:54 ^
Hearing these things, they were cut to the heart and moved with wrath against him.
Actes 7:55 ^
Mais Étienne, rempli du Saint Esprit, et fixant les regards vers le ciel, vit la gloire de Dieu et Jésus debout à la droite de Dieu.
Acts 7:55 ^
But he was full of the Holy Spirit, and looking up to heaven, he saw the glory of God and Jesus at the right hand of God.
Actes 7:56 ^
Et il dit: Voici, je vois les cieux ouverts, et le Fils de l`homme debout à la droite de Dieu.
Acts 7:56 ^
And he said, Now I see heaven open, and the Son of man at the right hand of God.
Actes 7:57 ^
Ils poussèrent alors de grands cris, en se bouchant les oreilles, et ils se précipitèrent tous ensemble sur lui,
Acts 7:57 ^
But with loud cries, and stopping their ears, they made an attack on him all together,
Actes 7:58 ^
le traînèrent hors de la ville, et le lapidèrent. Les témoins déposèrent leurs vêtements aux pieds d`un jeune homme nommé Saul.
Acts 7:58 ^
Driving him out of the town and stoning him: and the witnesses put their clothing at the feet of a young man named Saul.
Actes 7:59 ^
Et ils lapidaient Étienne, qui priait et disait: Seigneur Jésus, reçois mon esprit!
Acts 7:59 ^
And Stephen, while he was being stoned, made prayer to God, saying, Lord Jesus, take my spirit.
Actes 7:60 ^
Puis, s`étant mis à genoux, il s`écria d`une voix forte: Seigneur, ne leur impute pas ce péché! Et, après ces paroles, il s`endormit.
Acts 7:60 ^
And going down on his knees, he said in a loud voice, Lord, do not make them responsible for this sin. And when he had said this, he went to his rest.
