| Y DOS días después era la Pascua y los días de los panes sin levadura: y procuraban los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los escribas cómo le prenderían por engaño, y le matarían. | It was now two days before the feast of the Passover and the unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes made designs how they might take him by deceit and put him to death: |
| Y decían: No en el día de la fiesta, porque no se haga alboroto del pueblo. | But they said, Not while the feast is going on, for fear there may be trouble among the people. |
| Y estando él en Bethania en casa de Simón el leproso, y sentado á la mesa, vino una mujer teniendo un alabastro de ungüento de nardo espique de mucho precio; y quebrando el alabastro, derramóselo sobre su cabeza. | And while he was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, seated at table, there came a woman with a bottle of perfumed oil of great price; and when the bottle was broken she put the perfume on his head. |
| Y hubo algunos que se enojaron dentro de sí, y dijeron: ¿Para qué se ha hecho este desperdicio de ungüento? | But some of them were angry among themselves, saying, For what purpose has this oil been wasted? |
| Porque podía esto ser vendido por más de trescientos denarios, y darse á los pobres. Y murmuraban contra ella. | We might have got more than three hundred pence for it, and given the money to the poor. And they said things against her among themselves. |
| Mas Jesús dijo: Dejadla; ¿por qué la fatigáis? Buena obra me ha hecho; | But Jesus said, Let her be; why are you troubling her? she has done a kind act to me. |
| Que siempre tendréis los pobres con vosotros, y cuando quisiereis les podréis hacer bien; mas á mí no siempre me tendréis. | The poor you have ever with you, and whenever you have the desire you may do them good: but me you have not for ever. |
| Esta ha hecho lo que podía; porque se ha anticipado á ungir mi cuerpo para la sepultura. | She has done what she was able: she has put oil on my body to make it ready for its last resting-place. |
| De cierto os digo que donde quiera que fuere predicado este evangelio en todo el mundo, también esto que ha hecho ésta, será dicho para memoria de ella. | And truly I say to you, Wherever the good news goes out through all the earth, what this woman has done will be talked of in memory of her. |
| Entonces Judas Iscariote, uno de los doce, vino á los príncipes de los sacerdotes, para entregársele. | And Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went away to the chief priests, so that he might give him up to them. |
| Y ellos oyéndolo se holgaron, y prometieron que le darían dineros. Y buscaba oportunidad cómo le entregaría. | And hearing what he said, they were glad, and gave him their word to make him a payment of money. And he took thought how he might best give him up to them. |
| Y el primer día de los panes sin levadura, cuando sacrificaban la pascua, sus discípulos le dicen: ¿Dónde quieres que vayamos á disponer para que comas la pascua? | And on the first day of unleavened bread, when the Passover lamb is put to death, his disciples said to him, Where are we to go and make ready for you to take the Passover meal? |
| Y envía dos de sus discípulos, y les dice: Id á la ciudad, y os encontrará un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua; seguidle; | And he sent two of his disciples, and said to them, Go into the town, and there will come to you a man with a vessel of water: go after him; |
| Y donde entrare, decid al señor de la casa: El Maestro dice: ¿Dónde está el aposento donde he de comer la pascua con mis discípulos? | And wherever he goes in, say to the owner of the house, The Master says, Where is my guest-room, where I may take the Passover with my disciples? |
| Y él os mostrará un gran cenáculo ya preparado: aderezad para nosotros allí. | And he will take you up himself to a great room with a table and seats: there make ready for us. |
| Y fueron sus discípulos, y vinieron á la ciudad, y hallaron como les había dicho; y aderezaron la pascua. | And the disciples went out and came into the town, and saw that it was as he had said: and they made ready the Passover. |
| Y llegada la tarde, fué con los doce. | And when it was evening he came with the twelve. |
| Y como se sentaron á la mesa y comiesen, dice Jesús: De cierto os digo que uno de vosotros, que come conmigo, me ha de entregar. | And while they were seated taking food, Jesus said, Truly I say to you, One of you will be false to me, one who is taking food with me. |
| Entonces ellos comenzaron á entristecerse, y á decirle cada uno por sí: ¿Seré yo? Y el otro: ¿Seré yo? | They were sad, and said to him one by one, Is it I? |
| Y él respondiendo les dijo: Es uno de los doce que moja conmigo en el plato. | And he said to them, It is one of the twelve, one who is putting his bread with me into the same plate. |
| A la verdad el Hijo del hombre va, como está de él escrito; mas ¡ay de aquel hombre por quien el Hijo del hombre es entregado! bueno le fuera á aquel hombre si nunca hubiera nacido. | The Son of man goes, even as the Writings say of him: but cursed is that man through whom the Son of man is given up! It would have been well for that man if he had never been given birth. |
| Y estando ellos comiendo, tomó Jesús pan, y bendiciendo, partió y les dió, y dijo: Tomad, esto es mi cuerpo. | And while they were taking food, he took bread, and after blessing it, he gave the broken bread to them, and said, Take it: this is my body. |
| Y tomando el vaso, habiendo hecho gracias, les dió: y bebieron de él todos. | And he took a cup, and when he had given praise, he gave it to them: and they all had a drink from it. |
| Y les dice: Esto es mi sangre del nuevo pacto, que por muchos es derramada. | And he said to them, This is my blood of the testament, which is given for men. |
| De cierto os digo que no beberé más del fruto de la vid, hasta aquel día cundo lo beberé nuevo en el reino de Dios. | Truly I say to you, I will take no more of the fruit of the vine till the day when I take it new in the kingdom of God. |
| Y como hubieron cantado el himno, se salieron al monte de las Olivas. | And after a song of praise to God they went out to the Mountain of Olives. |
| Jesús entonces les dice: Todos seréis escandalizados en mí esta noche; porque escrito está: Heriré al pastor, y serán derramadas las ovejas. | And Jesus said to them, You will all be turned away from me: for it is in the Writings, I will put the keeper of the sheep to death, and the sheep will be put to flight. |
| Mas después que haya resucitado, iré delante de vosotros á Galilea. | But after I have come back from the dead, I will go before you into Galilee. |
| Entonces Pedro le dijo: Aunque todos sean escandalizados, mas no yo. | But Peter said to him, Though the others may be turned away from you, I will not. |
| Y le dice Jesús: De cierto te digo que tú, hoy, en esta noche, antes que el gallo haya cantado dos veces, me negarás tres veces. | And Jesus said to him, Truly, I say to you that you, today, even this night, before the cock's second cry, will say three times that you have no knowledge of me. |
| Mas él con mayor porfía decía: Si me fuere menester morir contigo, no te negaré. También todos decían lo mismo. | But he said with passion, If I have to be put to death with you, I will not be false to you. And they all said the same. |
| Y vienen al lugar que se llama Gethsemaní, y dice á sus discípulos: Sentaos aquí, entre tanto que yo oro. | And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he said to his disciples, Be seated here while I say a prayer. |
| Y toma consigo á Pedro y á Jacobo y á Juan, y comenzó á atemorizarse, y á angustiarse. | And he took with him Peter and James and John, and grief and great trouble came on him. |
| Y les dice: Está muy triste mi alma, hasta la muerte: esperad aquí y velad. | And he said to them, My soul is very sad, even to death: be here a little time, and keep watch. |
| Y yéndose un poco adelante, se postró en tierra, y oro que si fuese posible, pasase de él aquella hora, | And he went forward a little, and falling down on the earth, made request that, if possible, the hour might go from him. |
| Y decía: Abba, Padre, todas las cosas son á ti posibles: traspasa de mí este vaso; empero no lo que yo quiero, sino lo que tú. | And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible to you; take away this cup from me: but even so let not my pleasure, but yours be done. |
| Y vino y los halló durmiendo; y dice á Pedro: ¿Simón, duermes? ¿No has podido velar una hora? | And he came, and saw them sleeping, and said to Peter, Simon, are you sleeping? were you not able to keep watch one hour? |
| Velad y orad, para que no entréis en tentación: el espíritu á la verdad es presto, mas la carne enferma. | Keep watch with prayer, so that you may not be put to the test; the spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is feeble. |
| Y volviéndose á ir, oró, y dijo las mismas palabras. | And again he went away, and said a prayer, using the same words. |
| Y vuelto, los halló otra vez durmiendo, porque los ojos de ellos estaban cargados; y no sabían qué responderle. | And again he came and saw them sleeping, because their eyes were very tired; and they had nothing to say in answer. |
| Y vino la tercera vez, y les dice: Dormid ya y descansad: basta, la hora es venida; he aquí, el Hijo del hombre es entregado en manos de los pecadores. | And he came the third time, and said to them, Go on sleeping now and take your rest: it is enough; the hour has come; see, the Son of man is given up into the hands of evil men. |
| Levantaos, vamos: he aquí, el que me entrega está cerca. | Get up, let us be going; see, he who gives me up is near. |
| Y luego, aun hablando él, vino Judas, que era uno de los doce, y con él una compañía con espadas y palos, de parte de los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y de los escribas y de los ancianos. | And straight away, while he was still talking, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great band with swords and sticks, from the chief priests and the scribes and those in authority. |
| Y el que le entregaba les había dado señal común, diciendo: Al que yo besare, aquél es: prendedle, y llevadle con seguridad. | Now he who had been false to him had given them a sign, saying, The one to whom I give a kiss, that is he; take him, and get him away safely. |
| Y como vino, se acercó luego á él, y le dice: Maestro, Maestro. Y le besó. | And when he had come, he went straight to him and said, Master; and gave him a kiss. |
| Entonces ellos echaron en él sus manos, y le prendieron. | And they put their hands on him, and took him. |
| Y uno de los que estaban allí, sacando la espada, hirió al siervo del sumo sacerdote, y le cortó la oreja. | But a certain one of those who were near took out his sword, and gave the servant of the high priest a blow, cutting off his ear. |
| Y respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: ¿Como á ladrón habéis salido con espadas y con palos á tomarme? | And Jesus said to them, Have you come out as against a thief, with swords and sticks to take me? |
| Cada día estaba con vosotros enseñando en el templo, y no me tomasteis; pero es así, para que se cumplan las Escrituras. | I was with you every day in the Temple teaching, and you did not take me; but this is done so that the Writings may come true. |
| Entonces dejándole todos sus discípulos, huyeron. | And they all went away from him in fear. |
| Empero un mancebillo le seguía cubierto de una sábana sobre el cuerpo desnudo; y los mancebos le prendieron: | And a certain young man went after him, with only a linen cloth about his body; and they put their hands on him; |
| Mas él, dejando la sábana, se huyó de ellos desnudo. | But he got away unclothed, without the linen cloth. |
| Y trajeron á Jesús al sumo sacerdote; y se juntaron á él todos los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los ancianos y los escribas. | And they took Jesus away to the high priest; and there came together with him all the chief priests and those in authority and the scribes. |
| Empero Pedro le siguió de lejos hasta dentro del patio del sumo sacerdote; y estaba sentado con los servidores, y calentándose al fuego. | And Peter had come after him at a distance, even into the house of the high priest; and he was seated with the captains, warming himself in the light of the fire. |
| Y los príncipes de los sacerdotes y todo el concilio buscaban testimonio contra Jesús, para entregarle á la muerte; mas no lo hallaban. | Now the chief priests and all the Sanhedrin were looking for witness against Jesus so that they might put him to death; and they were unable to get any. |
| Porque muchos decían falso testimonio contra él; mas sus testimonios no concertaban. | For a number gave false witness against him and their witness was not in agreement. |
| Entonces levantandose unos, dieron falso testimonio contra él, diciendo: | Then some got up and gave false witness against him, saying, |
| Nosotros le hemos oído decir: Yo derribaré este templo que es hecho de mano, y en tres días edificaré otro echo sin mano. | He said in our hearing, I will put an end to this Temple which is made with hands, and in three days I will make another without hands. |
| Mas ni aun así se concertaba el testimonio de ellos. | And even so their witness was not in agreement. |
| Entonces el sumo sacerdote, levantándose en medio, preguntó á Jesús, diciendo: ¿No respondes algo? ¿Qué atestiguan estos contra ti? | And the high priest got up in the middle of them, and said to Jesus, Do you say nothing in answer? what is it which these say against you? |
| Mas él callaba, y nada respondía. El sumo sacerdote le volvió á preguntar, y le dice: ¿Eres tú el Cristo, el Hijo del Bendito? | But he kept quiet and said nothing. Again the high priest questioning him said, Are you the Christ, the son of the Holy One? |
| Y Jesús le dijo: Yo soy; y veréis al Hijo del hombre sentado á la diestra de la potencia de Dios, y viniendo en las nubes del cielo. | And Jesus said, I am: and you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of heaven. |
| Entonces el sumo sacerdote, rasgando sus vestidos, dijo: ¿Qué más tenemos necesidad de testigos? | And the high priest, violently parting his robes, said, What more need have we of witnesses? |
| Oído habéis la blasfemia: ¿qué os parece? Y ellos todos le condenaron ser culpado de muerte. | His words against God have come to your ears: what is your opinion? And they all said it was right for him to be put to death. |
| Y algunos comenzaron á escupir en él, y cubrir su rostro, y á darle bofetadas, y decirle: Profetiza. Y los servidores le herían de bofetadas. | And some put shame on him and, covering his face, gave him blows and said to him, Now say what is to come: and the captains took him and gave him blows with their hands. |
| Y estando Pedro abajo en el atrio, vino una de las criadas del sumo sacerdote; | And while Peter was down in the open square of the building, one of the servant-girls of the high priest came; |
| Y como vió á Pedro que se calentaba, mirándole, dice: Y tú con Jesús el Nazareno estabas. | And seeing Peter warming himself by the fire, she gave him a look, and said, You were with this Nazarene, even Jesus. |
| Mas él negó, diciendo: No conozco, ni sé lo que dices. Y se salió fuera á la entrada; y cantó el gallo. | But he said, I have no knowledge of him, or of what you are saying: and he went out into the doorway; and there came the cry of a cock. |
| Y la criada viéndole otra vez, comenzó á decir á los que estaban allí: Este es de ellos. | And the girl saw him, and said again to those who were near, This is one of them. |
| Mas él negó otra vez. Y poco después, los que estaban allí dijeron otra vez á Pedro: Verdaderamente tú eres de ellos; porque eres Galileo, y tu habla es semejante. | But again he said it was not so. And after a little time, again those who were near said to Peter, Truly you are one of them; for you are a Galilaean. |
| Y él comenzó á maldecir y á jurar: No conozco á este hombre de quien habláis. | But, with curses and oaths, he said, I have no knowledge of the man about whom you are talking. |
| Y el gallo cantó la segunda vez: y Pedro se acordó de las palabras que Jesús le había dicho: Antes que el gallo cante dos veces, me negarás tres veces. Y pensando en esto, lloraba. | And in the same minute, the cock gave a second cry. And it came to Peter's mind how Jesus had said to him, Before the cock's second cry, you will say three times that you have no knowledge of me. And at this thought he was overcome with weeping. |
