| PRINCIPIO del evangelio de Jesucristo, Hijo de Dios. | The first words of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. |
| Como está escrito en Isaías el profeta: He aquí yo envío á mi mensajero delante de tu faz, Que apareje tu camino delante de ti. | Even as it is said in the book of Isaiah the prophet, See, I send my servant before your face, who will make ready your way; |
| Voz del que clama en el desierto: Aparejad el camino del Señor; Enderezad sus veredas. | The voice of one crying in the waste land, Make ready the way of the Lord, make his roads straight; |
| Bautizaba Juan en el desierto, y predicaba el bautismo del arrepentimiento para remisión de pecados. | John came, and gave baptism in the waste land, preaching baptism as a sign of forgiveness of sin for those whose hearts were changed. |
| Y salía á él toda la provincia de Judea, y los de Jerusalem; y eran todos, bautizados por él en el río de Jordán, confesando sus pecados. | And there went out to him all the people of Judaea, and all those of Jerusalem, and they were given baptism by him in the river Jordan, saying that they were sinners. |
| Y Juan andaba vestido de pelos de camello, y con un cinto de cuero alrededor de sus lomos; y comía langostas y miel silvestre. | And John was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather band about him; and his food was locusts and honey. |
| Y predicaba, diciendo: Viene tras mí el que es más poderoso que yo, al cual no soy digno de desatar encorvado la correa de sus zapatos. | And he said to them all, There is one coming after me who is greater than I, whose shoes I am not good enough to undo. |
| Yo á la verdad os he bautizado con agua; mas él os bautizará con Espíritu Santo. | I have given you baptism with water, but he will give you baptism with the Holy Spirit. |
| Y aconteció en aquellos días, que Jesús vino de Nazaret de Galilea, y fué bautizado por Juan en el Jordán. | And it came about in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was given baptism by John in the Jordan. |
| Y luego, subiendo del agua, vió abrirse los cielos, y al Espíritu como paloma, que descendía sobre él. | And straight away, coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens broken open and the Spirit coming down on him as a dove: |
| Y hubo una voz de los cielos que decía: Tú eres mi Hijo amado; en ti tomo contentamiento. | And a voice came out of heaven, You are my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well pleased. |
| Y luego el Espíritu le impele al desierto. | And straight away the Spirit sent him out into the waste land. |
| Y estuvo allí en el desierto cuarenta días, y era tentado de Satanás; y estaba con las fieras; y los ángeles le servían. | And he was in the waste land for forty days, being tested by Satan; and he was with the beasts; and the angels took care of him. |
| Mas después que Juan fué encarcelado, Jesús vino á Galilea predicando el evangelio del reino de Dios, | Now after John had been put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the good news of God, |
| Y diciendo: El tiempo es cumplido, y el reino de Dios está cerca: arrepentíos, y creed al evangelio. | And saying, The time has come, and the kingdom of God is near: let your hearts be turned from sin and have faith in the good news. |
| Y pasando junto á la mar de Galilea, vió á Simón, y á Andrés su hermano, que echaban la red en la mar; porque eran pescadores. | And going by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon, and Andrew, the brother of Simon, putting a net into the sea: for they were fishermen. |
| Y les dijo Jesús: Venid en pos de mí, y haré que seáis pescadores de hombres. | And Jesus said to them, Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men. |
| Y luego, dejadas sus redes, le siguieron. | And they went straight from their nets, and came after him. |
| Y pasando de allí un poco más adelante, vió á Jacobo, hijo de Zebedeo, y á Juan su hermano, también ellos en el navío, que aderezaban las redes. | And going on a little farther, he saw James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were in their boat stitching up their nets. |
| Y luego los llamó: y dejando á su padre Zebedeo en el barco con los jornaleros, fueron en pos de él. | And he said, Come after me: and they went away from their father Zebedee, who was in the boat with the servants, and came after him. |
| Y entraron en Capernaum; y luego los sábados, entrando en la sinagoga, enseñaba. | And they came to Capernaum; and on the Sabbath he went into the Synagogue and gave teaching. |
| Y se admiraban de su doctrina; porque les enseñaba como quien tiene potestad, y no como los escribas. | And they were full of wonder at his teaching, because he gave it as one having authority, and not like the scribes. |
| Y había en la sinagoga de ellos un hombre con espíritu inmundo, el cual dió voces, | And there was in their Synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he gave a cry, |
| Diciendo: ¡Ah! ¿qué tienes con nosotros, Jesús Nazareno? ¿Has venido á destruirnos? Sé quién eres, el Santo de Dios. | Saying, What have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? have you come to put an end to us? I see well who you are, the Holy One of God. |
| Y Jesús le riñó, diciendo: Enmudece, y sal de él. | And Jesus said to him sharply, Be quiet, and come out of him. |
| Y el espíritu inmundo, haciéndole pedazos, y clamando á gran voz, salió de él. | And the unclean spirit, shaking him violently, and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. |
| Y todos se maravillaron, de tal manera que inquirían entre sí, diciendo: ¿Qué es esto? ¿Qué nueva doctrina es ésta, que con potestad aun á los espíritus inmundos manda, y le obedecen? | And they were all greatly surprised, so that they put questions to one another, saying, What is this? a new teaching! with authority he gives orders even to the unclean spirits, and they do what he says. |
| Y vino luego su fama por toda la provincia alrededor de Galilea. | And news of him went out quickly everywhere into all parts of Galilee round about. |
| Y luego saliendo de la sinagoga, vinieron á casa de Simón y de Andrés, con Jacobo y Juan. | And when they came out of the Synagogue, they went into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. |
| Y la suegra de Simón estaba acostada con calentura; y le hablaron luego de ella. | Now Simon's wife's mother was ill, with a burning heat; and they gave him word of her: |
| Entonces llegando él, la tomó de su mano y la levantó; y luego la dejó la calentura, y les servía. | And he came and took her by the hand, lifting her up; and she became well, and took care of their needs. |
| Y cuando fué la tarde, luego que el sol se puso, traían á él todos los que tenían mal, y endemoniados; | And in the evening, at sundown, they took to him all who were diseased, and those who had evil spirits. |
| Y toda la ciudad se juntó á la puerta. | And all the town had come together at the door. |
| Y sanó á muchos que estaban enfermos de diversas enfermedades, y echó fuera muchos demonios; y no dejaba decir á los demonios que le conocían. | And a number, who were ill with different diseases, he made well, and sent out evil spirits; but he did not let the evil spirits say anything, because they had knowledge of him. |
| Y levantándose muy de mañana, aun muy de noche, salió y se fué á un lugar desierto, y allí oraba. | And in the morning, a long time before daylight, he got up and went out to a quiet place, and there he gave himself up to prayer. |
| Y le siguió Simón, y los que estaban con él; | And Simon and those who were with him came after him. |
| Y hallándole, le dicen: Todos te buscan. | And when they came up with him, they said to him, Everyone is looking for you. |
| Y les dice: Vamos á los lugares vecinos, para que predique también allí; porque para esto he venido. | And he said to them, Let us go to other parts into the nearest towns, so that I may give teaching there, because for this purpose I came. |
| Y predicaba en las sinagogas de ellos en toda Galilea, y echaba fuera los demonios. | And he went into their Synagogues in every part of Galilee, preaching and driving out evil spirits. |
| Y un leproso vino á él, rogándole; é hincada la rodilla, le dice: Si quieres, puedes limpiarme. | And a leper came to him and, going down on his knees before him, made a request, saying, If it is your pleasure, you have the power to make me clean. |
| Y Jesús, teniendo misericordia de él, extendió su mano, y le tocó, y le dice: Quiero, sé limpio. | And being moved with pity, he put out his hand, and touching him said to him, It is my pleasure; be made clean. |
| Y así que hubo él hablado, la lepra se fué luego de aquél, y fué limpio. | And straight away the disease went from him, and he was made clean. |
| Entonces le apercibió, y despidióle luego, | And he sent him away, saying to him very sharply, |
| Y le dice: Mira, no digas á nadie nada; sino ve, muéstrate al sacerdote, y ofrece por tu limpieza lo que Moisés mandó, para testimonio á ellos. | See that you say nothing to any man: but go and let the priest see you, and make yourself clean by an offering of the things ordered by Moses, for a witness to them. |
| Mas él salido, comenzó á publicarlo mucho, y á divulgar el hecho, de manera que ya Jesús no podía entrar manifiestamente en la ciudad, sino que estaba fuera en los lugares desiertos; y venían á él de todas partes. | But he went out, and made it public, giving an account of it everywhere, so that Jesus was no longer able to go openly into a town, but was outside in the waste land; and they came to him from every part. |
