| To the chief music-maker. A Psalm. Of David. When Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba.Have pity on me, O God, in your mercy; out of a full heart, take away my sin. | Per il Capo de’ musici. Salmo di Davide, quando il profeta Natan venne a lui, dopo che Davide era stato da Batseba. Abbi pietà di me, o Dio, secondo la tua benignità; secondo la moltitudine delle tue compassioni, cancella i miei misfatti. |
| Let all my wrongdoing be washed away, and make me clean from evil. | Lavami del tutto della mia iniquità e nettami del mio peccato! |
| For I am conscious of my error; my sin is ever before me. | Poiché io conosco i miei misfatti, e il mio peccato è del continuo davanti a me. |
| Against you, you only, have I done wrong, working that which is evil in your eyes; so that your words may be seen to be right, and you may be clear when you are judging. | Io ho peccato contro te, contro te solo, e ho fatto ciò ch’è male agli occhi tuoi; lo confesso, affinché tu sia riconosciuto giusto quando parli, e irreprensibile quando giudichi. |
| Truly, I was formed in evil, and in sin did my mother give me birth. | Ecco, io sono stato formato nella iniquità, e la madre mia mi ha concepito nel peccato. |
| Your desire is for what is true in the inner parts: in the secrets of my soul you will give me knowledge of wisdom. | Ecco, tu ami la sincerità nell’interiore; insegnami dunque sapienza nel segreto del cuore. |
| Make me free from sin with hyssop: let me be washed whiter than snow. | Purificami con l’issopo, e sarò netto; lavami, e sarò più bianco che neve. |
| Make me full of joy and rapture; so that the bones which have been broken may be glad. | Fammi udire gioia ed allegrezza; fa’ che le ossa che tu hai tritate festeggino. |
| Let your face be turned from my wrongdoing, and take away all my sins. | Nascondi la tua faccia dai miei peccati, e cancella tutte le mie iniquità. |
| Make a clean heart in me, O God; give me a right spirit again. | O Dio, crea in me un cuor puro e rinnova dentro di me uno spirito ben saldo. |
| Do not put me away from before you, or take your holy spirit from me. | Non rigettarmi dalla tua presenza e non togliermi lo spirito tuo santo. |
| Give me back the joy of your salvation; let a free spirit be my support. | Rendimi la gioia della tua salvezza e fa’ che uno spirito volonteroso mi sostenga. |
| Then will I make your ways clear to wrongdoers; and sinners will be turned to you. | Io insegnerò le tue vie ai trasgressori, e i peccatori si convertiranno a te. |
| Be my saviour from violent death, O God, the God of my salvation; and my tongue will give praise to your righteousness. | Liberami dal sangue versato, o Dio, Dio della mia salvezza, e la mia lingua celebrerà la tua giustizia. |
| O Lord, let my lips be open, so that my mouth may make clear your praise. | Signore, aprimi le labbra, e la mia bocca pubblicherà la tua lode. |
| You have no desire for an offering or I would give it; you have no delight in burned offerings. | Poiché tu non prendi piacere nei sacrifizi, altrimenti io li offrirei; tu non gradisci olocausto. |
| The offerings of God are a broken spirit; a broken and sorrowing heart, O God, you will not put from you. | I sacrifizi di Dio sono lo spirito rotto; o Dio, tu non sprezzi il cuor rotto e contrito. |
| Do good to Zion in your good pleasure, building up the walls of Jerusalem. | Fa’ del bene a Sion, per la tua benevolenza; edifica le mura di Gerusalemme. |
| Then you will have delight in the offerings of righteousness, in burned offerings and offerings of beasts; then they will make offerings of oxen on your altar. | Allora prenderai piacere in sacrifizi di giustizia, in olocausti e in vittime arse per intero; allora si offriranno giovenchi sul tuo altare. |
