| Let not your heart be troubled: have faith in God and have faith in me. | Il vostro cuore non sia turbato; abbiate fede in Dio, e abbiate fede anche in me! |
| In my Father's house are rooms enough; if it was not so, would I have said that I am going to make ready a place for you? | Nella casa del Padre mio ci son molte dimore; se no, ve l’avrei detto; io vo a prepararvi un luogo; |
| And if I go and make ready a place for you, I will come back again and will take you to be with me, so that you may be where I am. | e quando sarò andato e v’avrò preparato un luogo, tornerò, e v’accoglierò presso di me, affinché dove son io, siate anche voi; |
| And you all have knowledge of where I am going, and of the way to it. | e del dove io vo sapete anche la via. |
| Thomas said, Lord, we have no knowledge of where you are going; how may we have knowledge of the way? | Toma gli disse: Signore, non sappiamo dove vai; come possiamo saper la via? |
| Jesus said to him, I am the true and living way: no one comes to the Father but by me. | Gesù gli disse: Io sono la via, la verità e la vita; nessuno viene al Padre se non per mezzo di me. |
| If you had knowledge of me, you would have knowledge of my Father: you have knowledge of him now and have seen him. | Se m’aveste conosciuto, avreste conosciuto anche mio Padre; e fin da ora lo conoscete, e l’avete veduto. |
| Philip said to him, Lord, let us see the Father, and we have need of nothing more. | Filippo gli disse: Signore, mostraci il Padre, e ci basta. |
| Jesus said to him, Philip, have I been with you all this time, and still you have no knowledge of me? He who has seen me has seen the Father. Why do you say, Let us see the Father? | Gesù gli disse: Da tanto tempo sono con voi e tu non m’hai conosciuto, Filippo? Chi ha veduto me, ha veduto il Padre; come mai dici tu: Mostraci il Padre? |
| Have you not faith that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words which I say to you, I say not from myself: but the Father who is in me all the time does his works. | Non credi tu ch’io sono nel Padre e che il Padre è in me? Le parole che io vi dico, non le dico di mio; ma il Padre che dimora in me, fa le opere sue. |
| Have faith that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me: at least, have faith in me because of what I do. | Credetemi che io sono nel Padre e che il Padre è in me; se no, credete a cagion di quelle opere stesse. |
| Truly I say to you, He who puts his faith in me will do the very works which I do, and he will do greater things than these, because I am going to my Father. | In verità, in verità vi dico che chi crede in me farà anch’egli le opere che fo io; e ne farà di maggiori, perché io me ne vo al Padre; |
| And whatever request you make in my name, that I will do, so that the Father may have glory in the Son. | e quel che chiederete nel mio nome, lo farò; affinché il Padre sia glorificato nel Figliuolo. |
| If you make any request to me in my name, I will do it. | Se chiederete qualche cosa nel mio nome, io la farò. |
| If you have love for me, you will keep my laws. | Se voi mi amate, osserverete i miei comandamenti. |
| And I will make prayer to the Father and he will give you another Helper to be with you for ever, | E io pregherò il Padre, ed Egli vi darà un altro Consolatore, perché stia con voi in perpetuo, |
| Even the Spirit of true knowledge. That Spirit the world is not able to take to its heart because it sees him not and has no knowledge of him: but you have knowledge of him, because he is ever with you and will be in you. | lo Spirito della verità, che il mondo non può ricevere, perché non lo vede e non lo conosce. Voi lo conoscete, perché dimora con voi, e sarà in voi. |
| I will not let you be without a friend: I am coming to you. | Non vi lascerò orfani; tornerò a voi. |
| A little time longer, and the world will see me no more; but you will see me; and you will be living because I am living. | Ancora un po’, e il mondo non mi vedrà più; ma voi mi vedrete, perché io vivo e voi vivrete. |
| At that time it will be clear to you that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I in you. | In quel giorno conoscerete che io sono nel Padre mio, e voi in me ed io in voi. |
| He who has my laws and keeps them, he it is who has love for me: and he who has love for me will be loved by my Father, and I will have love for him and will let myself be seen clearly by him. | Chi ha i miei comandamenti e li osserva, quello mi ama; e chi mi ama sarà amato dal Padre mio, e io l’amerò e mi manifesterò a lui. |
| Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, How is it that you will let yourself be seen clearly by us and not by the world? | Giuda (non l’Iscariota) gli domandò: Signore, come mai ti manifesterai a noi e non al mondo? |
| Jesus said to him in answer, If anyone has love for me, he will keep my words: and he will be dear to my Father; and we will come to him and make our living-place with him. | Gesù rispose e gli disse: Se uno mi ama, osserverà la mia parola; e il Padre mio l’amerà, e noi verremo a lui e faremo dimora presso di lui. |
| He who has no love for me does not keep my words; and the word which you are hearing is not my word but the Father's who sent me. | Chi non mi ama non osserva le mie parole; e la parola che voi udite non è mia, ma è del Padre che mi ha mandato. |
| I have said all this to you while I am still with you. | Queste cose v’ho detto, stando ancora con voi; |
| But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will be your teacher in all things and will put you in mind of everything I have said to you. | ma il Consolatore, lo Spirito Santo che il Padre manderà nel mio nome, egli v’insegnerà ogni cosa e vi rammenterà tutto quello che v’ho detto. |
| May peace be with you; my peace I give to you: I give it not as the world gives. Let not your heart be troubled; let it be without fear. | Io vi lascio pace; vi do la mia pace. Io non vi do come il mondo dà. Il vostro cuore non sia turbato e non si sgomenti. |
| Keep in mind how I said to you, I go away and come to you again. If you had love for me you would be glad, because I am going to the Father: for the Father is greater than I. | Avete udito che v’ho detto: "Io me ne vo, e torno a voi"; se voi m’amaste, vi rallegrereste ch’io vo al Padre, perché il Padre è maggiore di me. |
| And now I have given you word of it before it comes, so that, when it comes, you may have faith. | E ora ve l’ho detto prima che avvenga, affinché, quando sarà avvenuto, crediate. |
| After this I will not say much to you, because the ruler of this world comes: and he has no power over me; | Io non parlerò più molto con voi, perché viene il principe di questo mondo. Ed esso non ha nulla in me; |
| But he comes so that the world may see that I have love for the Father, and that I am doing as I am ordered by the Father. Get up, and let us go. | ma così avviene, affinché il mondo conosca che amo il Padre, e opero come il Padre m’ha ordinato. Levatevi, andiamo via di qui. |
