| And Abraham took another wife named Keturah. | Poi Abrahamo prese un’altra moglie, per nome Ketura. |
| She became the mother of Zimran and Jokshan and Medan and Midian and Ishbak and Shuah. | E questa gli partorì Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Madian, Jishbak e Shuach. |
| And Jokshan became the father of Sheba and Dedan. And from Dedan came the Asshurim and Letushim and Leummim. | Jokshan generò Sceba e Dedan. I figliuoli di Dedan furono gli Asshurim, Letushim ed i Leummim. |
| And from Midian came Ephah and Epher and Hanoch and Abida and Eldaah. All these were the offspring of Keturah. | E i figliuoli di Madian furono Efa, Efer, Hanoch, Abida ed Eldaa. Tutti questi furono i figliuoli di Ketura. |
| Now Abraham gave all his property to Isaac; | E Abrahamo dette tutto quello che possedeva a Isacco; |
| But to the sons of his other women he gave offerings, and sent them away, while he was still living, into the east country. | ma ai figliuoli delle sue concubine fece dei doni, e, mentre era ancora in vita, li mandò lungi dal suo figliuolo Isacco, verso levante, nel paese d’oriente. |
| Now the years of Abraham's life were a hundred and seventy-five. | Or tutto il tempo della vita d’Abrahamo fu di centosettanta cinque anni. |
| And Abraham came to his death, an old man, full of years; and he was put to rest with his people. | Poi Abrahamo spirò in prospera vecchiezza, attempato e sazio di giorni, e fu riunito al suo popolo. |
| And Isaac and Ishmael, his sons, put him to rest in the hollow rock of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron, the son of Zohar the Hittite, near Mamre; | E Isacco e Ismaele, suoi figliuoli, io seppellirono nella spelonca di Macpela nel campo di Efron figliuolo di Tsoar lo Hitteo, ch’è dirimpetto a Mamre: |
| The same field which Abraham got from the children of Heth: there Abraham was put to rest with Sarah, his wife. | campo, che Abrahamo avea comprato dai figliuoli di Heth. Quivi furon sepolti Abrahamo e Sara sua moglie. |
| Now after the death of Abraham, the blessing of God was with Isaac, his son. | E dopo la morte d’Abrahamo, Iddio benedisse Isacco figliuolo di lui; e Isacco dimorò presso il pozzo di Lachai-Roi. |
| Now these are the generations of Ishmael, the son of Abraham, whose mother was Hagar the Egyptian, the servant of Sarah: | Or questi sono i discendenti d’Ismaele, figliuolo d’Abrahamo, che Agar, l’Egiziana, serva di Sara, avea partorito ad Abrahamo. |
| These are the names of the sons of Ishmael by their generations: Ishmael's first son was Nebaioth; then Kedar and Adbeel and Mibsam | Questi sono i nomi de’ figliuoli d’Ismaele, secondo le loro generazioni: Nebaioth, il primogenito d’Ismaele; poi Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, |
| And Mishma and Dumah and Massa, | Mishma, Duma, Massa, Hadar, Tema, Jethur, |
| Hadad and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah: | Nafish e Kedma. |
| These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names in their towns and their tent-circles; twelve chiefs with their peoples. | Questi sono i figliuoli d’Ismaele, e questi i loro nomi, secondo i loro villaggi e i loro accampamenti. Furono i dodici capi dei loro popoli. |
| And the years of Ishmael's life were a hundred and thirty-seven: and he came to his end, and was put to rest with his people. | E gli anni della vita d’Ismaele furono centotrenta sette; poi spirò, morì, e fu riunito al suo popolo. |
| And their country was from Havilah to Shur which is east of Egypt: they took their place to the east of all their brothers. | E i suoi figliuoli abitarono da Havila fino a Shur, ch’è dirimpetto all’Egitto, andando verso l’Assiria. Egli si stabilì di faccia a tutti i suoi fratelli. |
| Now these are the generations of Abraham's son Isaac: | E questi sono i discendenti d’Isacco, figliuolo d’Abrahamo. |
| Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramaean of Paddan-aram, and the sister of Laban the Aramaean, to be his wife. | Abrahamo generò Isacco; e Isacco era in età di quarant’anni quando prese per moglie Rebecca, figliuola di Bethuel, l’Arameo di Paddan-Aram, e sorella di Labano, l’Arameo. |
| Isaac made prayer to the Lord for his wife because she had no children; and the Lord gave ear to his prayer, and Rebekah became with child. | Isacco pregò istantemente l’Eterno per sua moglie, perch’ella era sterile. L’Eterno l’esaudì, e Rebecca, sua moglie, concepì. |
| And the children were fighting together inside her, and she said, If it is to be so, why am I like this? So she went to put her question to the Lord. | E i bambini si urtavano nel suo seno; ed ella disse: "Se così è, perché vivo?" E andò a consultare l’Eterno. |
| And the Lord said to her, Two nations are in your body, and two peoples will come to birth from you: the one will be stronger than the other, and the older will be the servant of the younger. | E l’Eterno le disse: "Due nazioni sono nel tuo seno, e due popoli separati usciranno dalle tue viscere. Uno dei due popoli sarà più forte dell’altro, e il maggiore servirà il minore". |
| And when the time came for her to give birth, there were two children in her body. | E quando venne per lei il tempo di partorire, ecco ch’ella aveva due gemelli nel seno. |
| And the first came out red from head to foot like a robe of hair, and they gave him the name of Esau. | E il primo che uscì fuori era rosso, e tutto quanto come un mantello di pelo; e gli fu posto nome Esaù. |
| And after him, his brother came out, gripping Esau's foot; and he was named Jacob: Isaac was sixty years old when she gave birth to them. | Dopo uscì il suo fratello, che con la mano teneva il calcagno di Esaù; e gli fu posto nome Giacobbe. Or Isacco era in età di sessant’anni quando Rebecca li partorì. |
| And the boys came to full growth; and Esau became a man of the open country, an expert bowman; but Jacob was a quiet man, living in tents. | I due fanciulli crebbero, ed Esaù divenne un esperto cacciatore, un uomo di campagna, e Giacobbe un uomo tranquillo, che se ne stava nelle tende. |
| Now Isaac's love was for Esau, because Esau's meat was greatly to his taste: but Rebekah had more love for Jacob. | Or Isacco amava Esaù, perché la cacciagione era di suo gusto; e Rebecca amava Giacobbe. |
| And one day Jacob was cooking some soup when Esau came in from the fields in great need of food; | Or come Giacobbe s’era fatto cuocere una minestra, Esaù giunse dai campi, tutto stanco. |
| And Esau said to Jacob, Give me a full meal of that red soup, for I am overcome with need for food: for this reason he was named Edom. | Ed Esaù disse a Giacobbe: "Deh, dammi da mangiare un po’ di cotesta minestra rossa; perché sono stanco". Per questo fu chiamato Edom. |
| And Jacob said, First of all give me your birthright. | E Giacobbe gli rispose: "Vendimi prima di tutto la tua primogenitura". |
| And Esau said, Truly, I am at the point of death: what profit is the birthright to me? | Ed Esaù disse: "Ecco io sto per morire; che mi giova la primogenitura?" |
| And Jacob said, First of all give me your oath; and he gave him his oath, handing over his birthright to Jacob. | E Giacobbe disse: "Prima, giuramelo". Ed Esaù glielo giurò, e vendé la sua primogenitura a Giacobbe. |
| Then Jacob gave him bread and soup; and he took food and drink and went away, caring little for his birthright. | E Giacobbe diede a Esaù del pane e della minestra di lenticchie. Ed egli mangiò e bevve; poi si levò, e se ne andò. Così Esaù sprezzò la primogenitura. |
