| And it came about in the fourth year of King Darius, that the word of the Lord came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, the month Chislev. | La quatrième année du roi Darius, la parole de l`Éternel fut adressée à Zacharie, le quatrième jour du neuvième mois, qui est le mois de Kisleu. |
| Now they of Beth-el had sent Sharezer and Regem-melech to make a request for grace from the Lord, | On avait envoyé de Béthel Scharetser et Réguem Mélec avec ses gens pour implorer l`Éternel, |
| And to say to the priests of the house of the Lord of armies and to the prophets, Am I to go on weeping in the fifth month, separating myself as I have done in past years? | et pour dire aux sacrificateurs de la maison de l`Éternel des armées et aux prophètes: Faut-il que je pleure au cinquième mois et que je fasse abstinence, comme je l`ai fait tant d`années? |
| Then the word of the Lord of armies came to me, saying | La parole de l`Éternel des armées me fut adressée, en ces mots: |
| Say to all the people of the land and to the priests, When you went without food and gave yourselves to grief in the fifth and the seventh months for these seventy years, did you ever do it because of me? | Dis à tout le peuple du pays et aux sacrificateurs: Quand vous avez jeûné et pleuré au cinquième et au septième mois, et cela depuis soixante-dix ans, est-ce pour moi que vous avez jeûné? |
| And when you are feasting and drinking, are you not doing it only for yourselves? | Et quand vous mangez et buvez, n`est-ce pas vous qui mangez et vous qui buvez? |
| Are not these the words which the Lord said to you by the earlier prophets, when Jerusalem was full of people and wealth, and the towns round about her and the South and the Lowland were peopled? | Ne connaissez-vous pas les paroles qu`a proclamées l`Éternel par les premiers prophètes, lorsque Jérusalem était habitée et tranquille avec ses villes à l`entour, et que le midi et la plaine étaient habités? |
| And the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying, | La parole de l`Éternel fut adressée à Zacharie, en ces mots: |
| This is what the Lord of armies has said: Let your judging be upright and done in good faith, let every man have mercy and pity for his brother: | Ainsi parlait l`Éternel des armées: Rendez véritablement la justice, Et ayez l`un pour l`autre de la bonté et de la miséricorde. |
| Do not be hard on the widow, or the child without a father, on the man from a strange country, or on the poor; let there be no evil thought in your heart against your brother. | N`opprimez pas la veuve et l`orphelin, l`étranger et le pauvre, Et ne méditez pas l`un contre l`autre le mal dans vos coeurs. |
| But they would not give attention, turning their backs and stopping their ears from hearing; | Mais ils refusèrent d`être attentifs, ils eurent l`épaule rebelle, et ils endurcirent leurs oreilles pour ne pas entendre. |
| And they made their hearts like the hardest stone, so that they might not give ear to the law and the words which the Lord of armies had said by the earlier prophets: and there came great wrath from the Lord of armies. | Ils rendirent leur coeur dur comme le diamant, pour ne pas écouter la loi et les paroles que l`Éternel des armées leur adressait par son esprit, par les premiers prophètes. Ainsi l`Éternel des armées s`enflamma d`une grande colère. |
| And it came about that as they would not give ear to his voice, so I would not give ear to their voice, says the Lord of armies: | Quand il appelait, ils n`ont pas écouté: aussi n`ai-je pas écouté, quand ils ont appelé, dit l`Éternel des armées. |
| But with a storm-wind I sent them in flight among all the nations of whom they had no knowledge. So the land was waste after them, so that no man went through or came back: for they had made waste the desired land. | Je les ai dispersés parmi toutes les nations qu`ils ne connaissaient pas; le pays a été dévasté derrière eux, il n`y a plus eu ni allants ni venants; et d`un pays de délices ils ont fait un désert. |
