| My son, if you will take my words to your heart, storing up my laws in your mind; | Mon fils, si tu reçois mes paroles, Et si tu gardes avec toi mes préceptes, |
| So that your ear gives attention to wisdom, and your heart is turned to knowledge; | Si tu rends ton oreille attentive à la sagesse, Et si tu inclines ton coeur à l`intelligence; |
| Truly, if you are crying out for good sense, and your request is for knowledge; | Oui, si tu appelles la sagesse, Et si tu élèves ta voix vers l`intelligence, |
| If you are looking for her as for silver, and searching for her as for stored-up wealth; | Si tu la cherches comme l`argent, Si tu la poursuis comme un trésor, |
| Then the fear of the Lord will be clear to you, and knowledge of God will be yours. | Alors tu comprendras la crainte de l`Éternel, Et tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu. |
| For the Lord gives wisdom; out of his mouth come knowledge and reason: | Car l`Éternel donne la sagesse; De sa bouche sortent la connaissance et l`intelligence; |
| He has salvation stored up for the upright, he is a breastplate to those in whom there is no evil; | Il tient en réserve le salut pour les hommes droits, Un bouclier pour ceux qui marchent dans l`intégrité, |
| He keeps watch on the ways which are right, and takes care of those who have the fear of him. | En protégeant les sentiers de la justice Et en gardant la voie de ses fidèles. |
| Then you will have knowledge of righteousness and right acting, and upright behaviour, even of every good way. | Alors tu comprendras la justice, l`équité, La droiture, toutes les routes qui mènent au bien. |
| For wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasing to your soul; | Car la sagesse viendra dans ton coeur, Et la connaissance fera les délices de ton âme; |
| Wise purposes will be watching over you, and knowledge will keep you; | La réflexion veillera sur toi, L`intelligence te gardera, |
| Giving you salvation from the evil man, from those whose words are false; | Pour te délivrer de la voie du mal, De l`homme qui tient des discours pervers, |
| Who give up the way of righteousness, to go by dark roads; | De ceux qui abandonnent les sentiers de la droiture Afin de marcher dans des chemins ténébreux, |
| Who take pleasure in wrongdoing, and have joy in the evil designs of the sinner; | Qui trouvent de la jouissance à faire le mal, Qui mettent leur plaisir dans la perversité, |
| Whose ways are not straight, and whose footsteps are turned to evil: | Qui suivent des sentiers détournés, Et qui prennent des routes tortueuses; |
| To take you out of the power of the strange woman, who says smooth words with her tongue; | Pour te délivrer de la femme étrangère, De l`étrangère qui emploie des paroles doucereuses, |
| Who is false to the husband of her early years, and does not keep the agreement of her God in mind: | Qui abandonne l`ami de sa jeunesse, Et qui oublie l`alliance de son Dieu; |
| For her house is on the way down to death; her footsteps go down to the shades: | Car sa maison penche vers la mort, Et sa route mène chez les morts: |
| Those who go to her do not come back again; their feet do not keep in the ways of life: | Aucun de ceux qui vont à elle ne revient, Et ne retrouve les sentiers de la vie. |
| So that you may go in the way of good men, and keep in the footsteps of the upright. | Tu marcheras ainsi dans la voie des gens de bien, Tu garderas les sentiers des justes. |
| For the upright will be living in the land, and the good will have it for their heritage. | Car les hommes droits habiteront le pays, Les hommes intègres y resteront; |
| But sinners will be cut off from the land, and those whose acts are false will be uprooted. | Mais les méchants seront retranchés du pays, Les infidèles en seront arrachés. |
