| By a soft answer wrath is turned away, but a bitter word is a cause of angry feelings. | Une réponse douce calme la fureur, Mais une parole dure excite la colère. |
| Knowledge is dropping from the tongue of the wise; but from the mouth of the foolish comes a stream of foolish words. | La langue des sages rend la science aimable, Et la bouche des insensés répand la folie. |
| The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good. | Les yeux de l`Éternel sont en tout lieu, Observant les méchants et les bons. |
| A comforting tongue is a tree of life, but a twisted tongue is a crushing of the spirit. | La langue douce est un arbre de vie, Mais la langue perverse brise l`âme. |
| A foolish man puts no value on his father's training; but he who has respect for teaching has good sense. | L`insensé dédaigne l`instruction de son père, Mais celui qui a égard à la réprimande agit avec prudence. |
| In the house of the upright man there is a great store of wealth; but in the profits of the sinner there is trouble. | Il y a grande abondance dans la maison du juste, Mais il y a du trouble dans les profits du méchant. |
| The lips of the wise keep knowledge, but the heart of the foolish man is not right. | Les lèvres des sages répandent la science, Mais le coeur des insensés n`est pas droit. |
| The offering of the evil-doer is disgusting to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright man is his delight. | Le sacrifice des méchants est en horreur à l`Éternel, Mais la prière des hommes droits lui est agréable. |
| The way of the evil-doer is disgusting to the Lord, but he who goes after righteousness is dear to him. | La voie du méchant est en horreur à l`Éternel, Mais il aime celui qui poursuit la justice. |
| There is bitter punishment for him who is turned from the way; and death will be the fate of the hater of teaching. | Une correction sévère menace celui qui abandonne le sentier; Celui qui hait la réprimande mourra. |
| Before the Lord are the underworld and destruction: how much more, then, the hearts of the children of men! | Le séjour des morts et l`abîme sont devant l`Éternel; Combien plus les coeurs des fils de l`homme! |
| The hater of authority has no love for teaching: he will not go to the wise. | Le moqueur n`aime pas qu`on le reprenne, Il ne va point vers les sages. |
| A glad heart makes a shining face, but by the sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. | Un coeur joyeux rend le visage serein; Mais quand le coeur est triste, l`esprit est abattu. |
| The heart of the man of good sense goes in search of knowledge, but foolish things are the food of the unwise. | Un coeur intelligent cherche la science, Mais la bouche des insensés se plaît à la folie. |
| All the days of the troubled are evil; but he whose heart is glad has an unending feast. | Tous les jours du malheureux sont mauvais, Mais le coeur content est un festin perpétuel. |
| Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, than great wealth together with trouble. | Mieux vaut peu, avec la crainte de l`Éternel, Qu`un grand trésor, avec le trouble. |
| Better is a simple meal where love is, than a fat ox and hate with it. | Mieux vaut de l`herbe pour nourriture, là où règne l`amour, Qu`un boeuf engraissé, si la haine est là. |
| An angry man makes men come to blows, but he who is slow to get angry puts an end to fighting. | Un homme violent excite des querelles, Mais celui qui est lent à la colère apaise les disputes. |
| Thorns are round the way of the hater of work; but the road of the hard worker becomes a highway. | Le chemin du paresseux est comme une haie d`épines, Mais le sentier des hommes droits est aplani. |
| A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish man has no respect for his mother. | Un fils sage fait la joie de son père, Et un homme insensé méprise sa mère. |
| Foolish behaviour is joy to the unwise; but a man of good sense makes his way straight. | La folie est une joie pour celui qui est dépourvu de sens, Mais un homme intelligent va le droit chemin. |
| Where there are no wise suggestions, purposes come to nothing; but by a number of wise guides they are made certain. | Les projets échouent, faute d`une assemblée qui délibère; Mais ils réussissent quand il y a de nombreux conseillers. |
| A man has joy in the answer of his mouth: and a word at the right time, how good it is! | On éprouve de la joie à donner une réponse de sa bouche; Et combien est agréable une parole dite à propos! |
| Acting wisely is the way of life, guiding a man away from the underworld. | Pour le sage, le sentier de la vie mène en haut, Afin qu`il se détourne du séjour des morts qui est en bas. |
| The house of the man of pride will be uprooted by the Lord, but he will make safe the heritage of the widow. | L`Éternel renverse la maison des orgueilleux, Mais il affermit les bornes de la veuve. |
| Evil designs are disgusting to the Lord, but the words of the clean-hearted are pleasing. | Les pensées mauvaises sont en horreur à l`Éternel, Mais les paroles agréables sont pures à ses yeux. |
| He whose desires are fixed on profit is a cause of trouble to his family; but he who has no desire for offerings will have life. | Celui qui est avide de gain trouble sa maison, Mais celui qui hait les présents vivra. |
| The heart of the upright gives thought to his answer; but from the mouth of the evil-doer comes a stream of evil things. | Le coeur du juste médite pour répondre, Mais la bouche des méchants répand des méchancetés. |
| The Lord is far from sinners, but his ear is open to the prayer of the upright. | L`Éternel s`éloigne des méchants, Mais il écoute la prière des justes. |
| The light of the eyes is a joy to the heart, and good news makes the bones fat. | Ce qui plaît aux yeux réjouit le coeur; Une bonne nouvelle fortifie les membres. |
| The man whose ear is open to the teaching of life will have his place among the wise. | L`oreille attentive aux réprimandes qui mènent à la vie Fait son séjour au milieu des sages. |
| He who will not be controlled by training has no respect for his soul, but he who gives ear to teaching will get wisdom. | Celui qui rejette la correction méprise son âme, Mais celui qui écoute la réprimande acquiert l`intelligence. |
| The fear of the Lord is the teaching of wisdom; and a low opinion of oneself goes before honour. | La crainte de l`Éternel enseigne la sagesse, Et l`humilité précède la gloire. |
