| And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, | L`Éternel parla à Moïse et à Aaron, et leur dit: |
| Say to the children of Israel: These are the living things which you may have for food among all the beasts on the earth. | Parlez aux enfants d`Israël, et dites: Voici les animaux dont vous mangerez parmi toutes les bêtes qui sont sur la terre. |
| You may have as food any beast which has a division in the horn of its foot, and whose food comes back into its mouth to be crushed again. | Vous mangerez de tout animal qui a la corne fendue, le pied fourchu, et qui rumine. |
| But, at the same time, of those beasts, you may not take for food the camel, because its food comes back but the horn of its foot is not parted in two; it is unclean to you. | Mais vous ne mangerez pas de ceux qui ruminent seulement, ou qui ont la corne fendue seulement. Ainsi, vous ne mangerez pas le chameau, qui rumine, mais qui n`a pas la corne fendue: vous le regarderez comme impur. |
| And the rock-badger, for the same reason, is unclean to you. | Vous ne mangerez pas le daman, qui rumine, mais qui n`a pas la corne fendue: vous le regarderez comme impur. |
| And the hare, because the horn of its foot is not parted in two, is unclean to you. | Vous ne mangerez pas le lièvre, qui rumine, mais qui n`a pas la corne fendue: vous le regarderez comme impur. |
| And the pig is unclean to you, because though the horn of its foot is parted, its food does not come back. | Vous ne mangerez pas le porc, qui a la corne fendue et le pied fourchu, mais qui ne rumine pas: vous le regarderez comme impur. |
| Their flesh may not be used for food, and their dead bodies may not even be touched; they are unclean to you. | Vous ne mangerez pas de leur chair, et vous ne toucherez pas leurs corps morts: vous les regarderez comme impurs. |
| These you may have for food of all things living in the water: anything living in the water, in the seas or rivers, which has special parts for swimming and skin formed of thin plates, may be used for food. | Voici les animaux dont vous mangerez parmi tous ceux qui sont dans les eaux. Vous mangerez de tous ceux qui ont des nageoires et des écailles, et qui sont dans les eaux, soit dans les mers, soit dans les rivières. |
| All other things living and moving in the water, in the sea or in the rivers, are a disgusting thing to you; | Mais vous aurez en abomination tous ceux qui n`ont pas des nageoires et des écailles, parmi tout ce qui se meut dans les eaux et tout ce qui est vivant dans les eaux, soit dans les mers, soit dans les rivières. |
| They may not be used for food, and their dead bodies are disgusting to you. | Vous les aurez en abomination, vous ne mangerez pas de leur chair, et vous aurez en abomination leurs corps morts. |
| Anything in the water which has no special parts for swimming and no thin plates on its skin is disgusting to you. | Vous aurez en abomination tous ceux qui, dans les eaux, n`ont pas des nageoires et des écailles. |
| And among birds these are to be disgusting to you, and not to be used for food: the eagle and the gier-eagle and the ospray; | Voici, parmi les oiseaux, ceux que vous aurez en abomination, et dont on ne mangera pas: l`aigle, l`orfraie et l`aigle de mer; |
| And the kite and the falcon, and birds of that sort; | le milan, l`autour et ce qui est de son espèce; |
| Every raven, and birds of that sort; | le corbeau et toutes ses espèces; |
| And the ostrich and the night-hawk and the sea-hawk, and birds of that sort; | l`autruche, le hibou, la mouette, l`épervier et ce qui est de son espèce; |
| And the little owl and the cormorant and the great owl; | le chat-huant, le plongeon et la chouette; |
| And the water-hen and the pelican and the vulture; | le cygne, le pélican et le cormoran; |
| The stork and the heron, and birds of that sort, and the hoopoe and the bat. | la cigogne, le héron et ce qui est de son espèce, la huppe et la chauve-souris. |
| Every winged four-footed thing which goes on the earth is disgusting to you; | Vous aurez en abomination tout reptile qui vole et qui marche sur quatre pieds. |
| But of the winged four-footed things, those which have long legs for jumping on the earth you may have for food; | Mais, parmi tous les reptiles qui volent et qui marchent sur quatre pieds, vous mangerez ceux qui ont des jambes au-dessus de leurs pieds, pour sauter sur la terre. |
| Such as all the different sorts of locust. | Voici ceux que vous mangerez: la sauterelle, le solam, le hargol et le hagab, selon leurs espèces. |
| But all other winged four-footed things which go on the earth are disgusting to you. | Vous aurez en abomination tous les autres reptiles qui volent et qui ont quatre pieds. |
| By these you will be made unclean; anyone touching their dead bodies will be unclean till evening: | Ils vous rendront impurs: quiconque touchera leurs corps morts sera impur jusqu`au soir, |
| Whoever takes away the dead body of one of them is to have his clothing washed, and will be unclean till evening. | et quiconque portera leurs corps morts lavera ses vêtements et sera impur jusqu`au soir. |
| Every beast, in the horn of whose foot there is not a complete division, and whose food does not come back, is unclean to you: anyone touching one of these will be unclean. | Vous regarderez comme impur tout animal qui a la corne fendue, mais qui n`a pas le pied fourchu et qui ne rumine pas: quiconque le touchera sera impur. |
| Any four-footed beast which goes on the ball of its foot, is unclean to you: anyone touching the dead body of one of these will be unclean till evening. | Vous regarderez comme impurs tous ceux des animaux à quatre pieds qui marchent sur leurs pattes: quiconque touchera leurs corps morts sera impur jusqu`au soir, |
| Anyone who takes away the dead body of one of these is to have his clothing washed and be unclean till evening. | et quiconque portera leurs corps morts lavera ses vêtements et sera impur jusqu`au soir. Vous les regarderez comme impurs. |
| And these are unclean to you among things which go low down on the earth; the weasel and the mouse and the great lizard, and animals of that sort; | Voici, parmi les animaux qui rampent sur la terre, ceux que vous regarderez comme impurs: la taupe, la souris et le lézard, selon leurs espèces; |
| And the ferret and the land crocodile and the lizard and the sand-lizard and the chameleon. | le hérisson, la grenouille, la tortue, le limaçon et le caméléon. |
| All these are unclean to you: anyone touching them when they are dead will be unclean till evening. | Vous les regarderez comme impurs parmi tous les reptiles: quiconque les touchera morts sera impur jusqu`au soir. |
| The dead body of any of these, falling on anything, will make that thing unclean; if it is any vessel of wood, or clothing, or skin, or bag, whatever it is, if it is used for any purpose, it will have to be put into water, and will be unclean till evening; after that it will be clean. | Tout objet sur lequel tombera quelque chose de leurs corps morts sera souillé, ustensiles de bois, vêtement, peau, sac, tout objet dont on fait usage; il sera mis dans l`eau, et restera souillé jusqu`au soir; après quoi, il sera pur. |
| And if one of them gets into any vessel of earth, whatever is in the vessel will be unclean and the vessel will have to be broken. | Tout ce qui se trouvera dans un vase de terre où il en tombera quelque chose, sera souillé, et vous briserez le vase. |
| Any food in it, and anything on which water from it comes, will be unclean: any drink taken from such a vessel will be unclean. | Tout aliment qui sert à la nourriture, et sur lequel il sera tombé de cette eau, sera souillé; et toute boisson dont on fait usage, quel que soit le vase qui la contienne, sera souillée. |
| Any part of the dead body of one of these, falling on anything, will make it unclean; if it is an oven or a cooking-pot it will have to be broken: they are unclean and will be unclean to you. | Tout objet sur lequel tombera quelque chose de leurs corps morts sera souillé; le four et le foyer seront détruits: ils seront souillés, et vous les regarderez comme souillés. |
| But at the same time a fountain or a place where water is stored for use will be clean; but anyone touching their dead bodies will be unclean. | Il n`y aura que les sources et les citernes, formant des amas d`eaux, qui resteront pures; mais celui qui y touchera de leurs corps morts sera impur. |
| If any part of the dead body of one of these gets on to any seed for planting, it is clean; | S`il tombe quelque chose de leurs corps morts sur une semence qui doit être semée, elle restera pure; |
| But if water is put on the seed, and any part of the dead body gets on to it, it will be unclean to you. | mais si l`on a mis de l`eau sur la semence, et qu`il y tombe quelque chose de leurs corps morts, vous la regarderez comme souillée. |
| And if any beast which may be used for food comes to a natural death, anyone touching its dead body will be unclean till evening. | S`il meurt un des animaux qui vous servent de nourriture, celui qui touchera son corps mort sera impur jusqu`au soir; |
| And he who makes use of any part of its body for food is to have his clothing washed and be unclean till evening; and anyone taking away its body is to have his clothing washed and be unclean till evening. | celui qui mangera de son corps mort lavera ses vêtements et sera impur jusqu`au soir, et celui qui portera son corps mort lavera ses vêtements et sera impur jusqu`au soir. |
| Everything which goes flat on its body on the earth is disgusting, and is not to be used for food. | Vous aurez en abomination tout reptile qui rampe sur la terre: on n`en mangera point. |
| Whatever goes on its stomach or on four feet or has a great number of feet, even all those going flat on the earth, may not be used for food, for they are disgusting. | Vous ne mangerez point, parmi tous les reptiles qui rampent sur la terre, de tous ceux qui se traînent sur le ventre, ni de tous ceux qui marchent sur quatre pieds ou sur un grand nombre de pieds; car vous les aurez en abomination. |
| You are not to make yourselves disgusting with anything which goes about flat on the earth; you may not make yourselves unclean with them, in such a way that you are not holy to me. | Ne rendez point vos personnes abominables par tous ces reptiles qui rampent; ne vous rendez point impurs par eux, ne vous souillez point par eux. |
| For I am the Lord your God: for this reason, make and keep yourselves holy, for I am holy; you are not to make yourselves unclean with any sort of thing which goes about flat on the earth. | Car je suis l`Éternel, votre Dieu; vous vous sanctifierez, et vous serez saints, car je suis saint; et vous ne vous rendrez point impurs par tous ces reptiles qui rampent sur la terre. |
| For I am the Lord, who took you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God; so be you holy, for I am holy. | Car je suis l`Éternel, qui vous ai fait monter du pays d`Égypte, pour être votre Dieu, et pour que vous soyez saints; car je suis saint. |
| This is the law about beasts and birds and every living thing moving in the waters, and every living thing which goes flat on the earth: | Telle est la loi touchant les animaux, les oiseaux, tous les êtres vivants qui se meuvent dans les eaux, et tous les êtres qui rampent sur la terre, |
| Marking out the unclean from the clean, and the living thing which may be used for food from that which may not. | afin que vous distinguiez ce qui est impur et ce qui est pur, l`animal qui se mange et l`animal qui ne se mange pas. |
