| Truly, my eye has seen all this, word of it has come to my ear, and I have knowledge of it. | Voici, mon oeil a vu tout cela, Mon oreille l`a entendu et y a pris garde. |
| The same things are in my mind as in yours; I am equal to you. | Ce que vous savez, je le sais aussi, Je ne vous suis point inférieur. |
| But I would have talk with the Ruler of all, and my desire is to have an argument with God. | Mais je veux parler au Tout Puissant, Je veux plaider ma cause devant Dieu; |
| But you put a false face on things; all your attempts to put things right are of no value. | Car vous, vous n`imaginez que des faussetés, Vous êtes tous des médecins de néant. |
| If only you would keep quiet, it would be a sign of wisdom! | Que n`avez-vous gardé le silence? Vous auriez passé pour avoir de la sagesse. |
| Give ear to the argument of my mouth, and take note of the words of my lips. | Écoutez, je vous prie, ma défense, Et soyez attentifs à la réplique de mes lèvres. |
| Will you say in God's name what is not right, and put false words into his mouth? | Direz-vous en faveur de Dieu ce qui est injuste, Et pour le soutenir alléguerez-vous des faussetés? |
| Will you have respect for God's person in this cause, and put yourselves forward as his supporters? | Voulez-vous avoir égard à sa personne? Voulez-vous plaider pour Dieu? |
| Will it be good for you to be searched out by him, or have you the thought that he may be guided into error like a man? | S`il vous sonde, vous approuvera-t-il? Ou le tromperez-vous comme on trompe un homme? |
| He will certainly put you right, if you have respect for persons in secret. | Certainement il vous condamnera, Si vous n`agissez en secret que par égard pour sa personne. |
| Will not his glory put you in fear, so that your hearts will be overcome before him? | Sa majesté ne vous épouvantera-t-elle pas? Sa terreur ne tombera-t-elle pas sur vous? |
| Your wise sayings are only dust, and your strong places are only earth. | Vos sentences sont des sentences de cendre, Vos retranchements sont des retranchements de boue. |
| Keep quiet, and let me say what is in my mind, whatever may come to me. | Taisez-vous, laissez-moi, je veux parler! Il m`en arrivera ce qu`il pourra. |
| I will take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand. | Pourquoi saisirais-je ma chair entre les dents? J`exposerai plutôt ma vie. |
| Truly, he will put an end to me; I have no hope; but I will not give way in argument before him; | Voici, il me tuera; je n`ai rien à espérer; Mais devant lui je défendrai ma conduite. |
| And that will be my salvation, for an evil-doer would not come before him, | Cela même peut servir à mon salut, Car un impie n`ose paraître en sa présence. |
| Give ear with care to my words, and keep what I say in your minds. | Écoutez, écoutez mes paroles, Prêtez l`oreille à ce que je vais dire. |
| See now, I have put my cause in order, and I am certain that I will be seen to be right. | Me voici prêt à plaider ma cause; Je sais que j`ai raison. |
| Is any one able to take up the argument against me? If so, I would keep quiet and give up my breath. | Quelqu`un disputera-t-il contre moi? Alors je me tais, et je veux mourir. |
| Only two things do not do to me, then I will come before your face: | Seulement, accorde-moi deux choses Et je ne me cacherai pas de loin de ta face: |
| Take your hand far away from me; and let me not be overcome by fear of you. | Retire ta main de dessus moi, Et que tes terreurs ne me troublent plus. |
| Then at the sound of your voice I will give answer; or let me put forward my cause for you to give me an answer. | Puis appelle, et je répondrai, Ou si je parle, réponds-moi! |
| What is the number of my evil-doings and my sins? give me knowledge of them. | Quel est le nombre de mes iniquités et de mes péchés? Fais-moi connaître mes transgressions et mes péchés. |
| Why is your face veiled from me, as if I was numbered among your haters? | Pourquoi caches-tu ton visage, Et me prends-tu pour ton ennemi? |
| Will you be hard on a leaf in flight before the wind? will you make a dry stem go more quickly on its way? | Veux-tu frapper une feuille agitée? Veux-tu poursuivre une paille desséchée? |
| For you put bitter things on record against me, and send punishment on me for the sins of my early years; | Pourquoi m`infliger d`amères souffrances, Me punir pour des fautes de jeunesse? |
| And you put chains on my feet, watching all my ways, and making a limit for my steps; | Pourquoi mettre mes pieds dans les ceps, Surveiller tous mes mouvements, Tracer une limite à mes pas, |
| Though a man comes to nothing like a bit of dead wood, or like a robe which has become food for the worm. | Quand mon corps tombe en pourriture, Comme un vêtement que dévore la teigne? |
