箴言 25
|
| These are more wise sayings of Solomon, copied out by the men of Hezekiah, king of Judah. | 以 下 也 是 所 羅 門 的 箴 言 ． 是 猶 大 王 希 西 家 的 人 所 謄 錄 的 。 |
| It is the glory of God to keep a thing secret: but the glory of kings is to have it searched out. | 將 事 隱 祕 、 乃 神 的 榮 耀 ． 將 事 察 清 、 乃 君 王 的 榮 耀 。 |
| The heaven is high and the earth is deep, and the hearts of kings may not be searched out. | 天 之 高 、 地 之 厚 、 君 王 之 心 也 測 不 透 。 |
| Take away the waste from silver, and a vessel will come out for the silver-worker. | 除 去 銀 子 的 渣 滓 、 就 有 銀 子 出 來 、 銀 匠 能 以 作 器 皿 。 |
| Take away evil-doers from before the king, and the seat of his power will be made strong in righteousness. | 除 去 王 面 前 的 惡 人 、 國 位 就 靠 公 義 堅 立 。 |
| Do not take glory for yourself before the king, and do not put yourself in the place of the great: | 不 要 在 王 面 前 妄 自 尊 大 ． 不 要 在 大 人 的 位 上 站 立 。 |
| For it is better to have it said to you, Come up here; than for you to be put down in a lower place before the ruler. | 寧 可 有 人 說 請 你 上 來 、 強 如 在 你 覲 見 的 王 子 面 前 、 叫 你 退 下 。 |
| Do not be quick to go to law about what you have seen, for what will you do in the end, when your neighbour has put you to shame? | 不 要 冒 失 出 去 與 人 爭 競 、 免 得 至 終 被 他 羞 辱 、 你 就 不 知 道 怎 樣 行 了 。 |
| Have a talk with your neighbour himself about your cause, but do not give away the secret of another: | 你 與 鄰 舍 爭 訟 、 要 與 他 一 人 辯 論 ． 不 可 洩 漏 人 的 密 事 ． |
| Or your hearer may say evil of you, and your shame will not be turned away. | 恐 怕 聽 見 的 人 罵 你 、 你 的 臭 名 就 難 以 脫 離 。 |
| A word at the right time is like apples of gold in a network of silver. | 一 句 話 說 得 合 宜 、 就 如 金 蘋 果 在 銀 網 子 裡 。 |
| Like a nose-ring of gold and an ornament of the best gold, is a wise man who says sharp words to an ear ready to give attention. | 智 慧 人 的 勸 戒 、 在 順 從 的 人 耳 中 、 好 像 金 耳 環 、 和 精 金 的 妝 飾 。 |
| As the cold of snow in the time of grain-cutting, so is a true servant to those who send him; for he gives new life to the soul of his master. | 忠 信 的 使 者 、 叫 差 他 的 人 心 裡 舒 暢 、 就 如 在 收 割 時 、 有 冰 雪 的 涼 氣 。 |
| As clouds and wind without rain, so is one who takes credit for an offering he has not given. | 空 誇 贈 送 禮 物 的 、 好 像 無 雨 的 風 雲 。 |
| A judge is moved by one who for a long time undergoes wrongs without protest, and by a soft tongue even bone is broken. | 恆 常 忍 耐 、 可 以 勸 動 君 王 ． 柔 和 的 舌 頭 、 能 折 斷 骨 頭 。 |
| If you have honey, take only as much as is enough for you; for fear that, being full of it, you may not be able to keep it down. | 你 得 了 蜜 麼 、 只 可 喫 彀 而 已 ． 恐 怕 你 過 飽 就 嘔 吐 出 來 。 |
| Let not your foot be frequently in your neighbour's house, or he may get tired of you, and his feeling be turned to hate. | 你 的 腳 要 少 進 鄰 舍 的 家 、 恐 怕 他 厭 煩 你 、 恨 惡 你 。 |
| One who gives false witness against his neighbour is a hammer and a sword and a sharp arrow. | 作 假 見 證 陷 害 鄰 舍 的 、 就 是 大 槌 、 是 利 刀 、 是 快 箭 。 |
| Putting one's faith in a false man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth and a shaking foot. | 患 難 時 倚 靠 不 忠 誠 的 人 、 好 像 破 壞 的 牙 、 錯 骨 縫 的 腳 。 |
| Like one who takes off clothing in cold weather and like acid on a wound, is he who makes melody to a sad heart. | 對 傷 心 的 人 唱 歌 、 就 如 冷 天 脫 衣 服 、 又 如 鹼 上 倒 醋 。 |
| If your hater is in need of food, give him bread; and if he is in need of drink, give him water: | 你 的 仇 敵 、 若 餓 了 就 給 他 飯 喫 ． 若 渴 了 就 給 他 水 喝 。 |
| For so you will put coals of fire on his head, and the Lord will give you your reward. | 因 為 你 這 樣 行 、 就 是 把 炭 火 堆 在 他 的 頭 上 ． 耶 和 華 也 必 賞 賜 你 。 |
| As the north wind gives birth to rain, so is an angry face caused by a tongue saying evil secretly. | 北 風 生 雨 、 讒 謗 人 的 舌 頭 也 生 怒 容 。 |
| It is better to be living in an angle of the house-top, than with a bitter-tongued woman in a wide house. | 寧 可 住 在 房 頂 的 角 上 、 不 在 寬 闊 的 房 屋 與 爭 吵 的 婦 人 同 住 。 |
| As cold water to a tired soul, so is good news from a far country. | 有 好 消 息 從 遠 方 來 、 就 如 拿 涼 水 給 口 渴 的 人 喝 。 |
| Like a troubled fountain and a dirty spring, is an upright man who has to give way before evil-doers. | 義 人 在 惡 人 面 前 退 縮 、 好 像 ? 渾 之 泉 、 弄 濁 之 井 。 |
| It is not good to take much honey: so he who is not looking for honour will be honoured. | 喫 蜜 過 多 是 不 好 的 ． 考 究 自 己 的 榮 耀 、 也 是 可 厭 的 。 |
| He whose spirit is uncontrolled is like an unwalled town which has been broken into. | 人 不 制 伏 自 己 的 心 、 好 像 毀 壞 的 城 邑 沒 有 牆 垣 。 |
